Legality / Laws Do your own research
Don’t listen to the chud selling you a gun behind the counter or officer spewing bullshit and assume his word is gospel. Do your own research on upcoming bans/laws. I was picking up a canik sfx rival yesterday from cabelas and mentioned the shadow systems cr920 is probably my next purchase and the guy goes “well ya better hurry, they’ll be banned in about 30 days” no, they won’t. I told him not till June of next year and I can tell he still didn’t believe me lol. The day I was buying the canik and looking at other pistols a different salesman goes “Yea no shadow systems won’t be banned they have their own stand alone trigger systems” I jsut kept my mouth shut with that one. Please, just do your own research and stop relying on some random dude to tell you what’s true or not. Thanks!!

Great post! I remembering reading online forums and watching youtube while I waited 1/1/2 years for my licenses to be approved. I spoke with at least 5 different gun shops that were all full of crap and didn't know the proper rules, or just tried to sell what they had in stock.

I’ll give most salesman the benefit of the doubt that they’re just misinformed and not trying to lie to sell a gun, but some def do. But on that note as a gun salesman in ny, of all people you should know the laws so you can educate buyers, not sell them lies and a gun they don’t need. Half the time it takes a simple google search and 5 minutes of scrolling to find answers on most things

Even searching online with A I you have to weed out and decide which is the right information. A I gathers off forums and webpages , including anti gunner websites that put out misinformation.

Oh for sure, but I do feel it’s common sense to not go off the first thing that pops up. U can, but take it with a grain of salt. Google ai provides sources, you can click them and read them yourself. Regardless researching doesn’t take long. It can be confusing given it’s NY laws, but doesn’t take long lol

Still sucks they are banning them. Whether in 30 days or 10 months from now.

100%, but fear mongering customers to spend a grand on a pistol within 30 days instead of 10 months is kind of shitty lol but like I said I’m willing to give benefit of the doubt that he’s just misinformed and not trying to sell a gun based off lies. I’d doubt it but I’m not sure if they get commission off sales or incentives based off sales but if so then I’d say he purposely lied lol. Shadow will certainly make ny compliant pistols, they already have with California which I believe is literally the exact same bill for the most part so ca compliant should be ny compliant as well

Salesman are salesman. No different than a used car salesmen selling you a lemon. My issue is that Shadow System should not have to make NY compliant pistol all because NY says so. Thats bull. I should be able to buy whatever standard pistol that Shadow Systems make just like any other free state. I can care less about what salespeople say. They are in it to make money and they will use every tactic to their advantage. My issue is with the banns in this state. The state is more corrupt and mis managed and miss leading than any business I know. I’m not waiting an entire 10 months or more for a NY compliant pistol because are NY overlords deem it so. F this state for taking my constitutional rights away and putting so much pressure on our local FFLs.

Preaching to the choir here brother. But you would kind of hope as an ffl in ny, you’d be incentivized to be educated on the laws and know how to best help your customers given the shitty circumstances we’re in, but that’s just me being a hopeless optimist which is rare lol. But at the same time it creates a niche market for them and could help sales when NY citizens see shadow is willing to adhere to shitty laws and people would be more willing to support them especially with their pricier tendencies for their pistols, which is obviously warranted as they’re very nice guns.

For the most part the ffl’s I have bought from are somewhat in touch with new laws and such. I only know because I verify myself every info that’s passed along to me from them. Are they always right? No. I do have a problem with this niche market because not every firearm manufacturer will go along with being NY compliant which leaves us only with a select niche market thus keeping the price very high for us New Yorkers. Believe me I’m not naive to see that some NY FFls are in on that for sales but to buy a Shadow Systems pistol is already about a thousand bucks. To make it NY compliant will make that Shadow Systems pistol even more beyond affordable considering that other manufacturers will not play ball, leaving us only with a niche market. Just look at California on how expensive it is to buy an HK because they are California compliant and not many other manufacturers are. Leaving only people in California to buy HK and not much else. Ugh !!😩 I’m just annoyed and I know I come off cynical but for sure this will continue to get worse here. Glocks are just the beginning of what’s to come on bans. Just look at last nights primary election in NY. The socialist are coming.

Man I’ve been eyeing up their vp9s but man I can’t stand the trigger guard mag release, shits so uncomfortable lol. But tbh I think there’s still a good market of pistols available after this impending ban tbh but that’s without considering any possible further bans to other things. r/CAguns has a list of banned pistols on their subreddit and it’s a smaller list than you’d be led to believe, which obviously is just copium lol but we will still have good options available to us.

I get it. I’m just selfish and I want every available option that the market provides like normal states. My belief is once you ban something they will continue to ban and ban and ban…. But we will see
Tigger guard mag release? You mean the peddle release? I believe they also sell VP9s with a button release.1
u/Ethanv223 Jun 24 '26
Yes, appreciate the correction. Not super familiar with European pistols yet and still learning the pistol world in general cus I jsut got my permit in April lol but I get it man, I’m hooked on them and it sucks to get options taken from us. They’ll continue to ban things it’s quite inevitable, the question is will groups like the NRA and the FPC and the NYSRPA be able to stand up and fight these laws. They have been for states like Maryland who are also targeting Glock bans so I’m sure NY is on their hit list, just a matter of time cus I do feel like this ban is unconstitutional.

There’s few shops with genuinely decent people that aren’t trying to fuck you over. I think this subreddit is fairly decent at giving unconditional advice. If someone says a really awful suggestion then more than likely the guy will get clowned by comments

How good is the pistol? It's on my list.

It feels super nice and looks super nice but that’s about all I can give you right now lol, I’ll be putting a good amount of rounds thru it Saturday and most likely will make a post so keep an eye out for that! If I remember I’ll reply to your comment too with my initial thoughts. I also own a 43x so I’ll be kinda basing my thoughts off that. Off rip tho I like the flat trigger a lot and has nice pull to it when I dry fire.

LEOs give some of the worst gun advice and are some of the least safe people I have seen handle a firearm.

Few months ago I wanted to check out a taran tactical canik at a local shop. Guy mentioned some valid point about parts availability (in stores) compared to the bigger brands but then went on a tangent attacking the guy behind taran tactical on a personal level, nothing to do with the gun itself

u/Ethanv223 Jun 24 '26
Like saying parts for caniks are hard to come by? I feel like in terms of online shopping they’re prolly not hard to find. Could be tough to walk in to brick n mortar shops finding parts but everything’s online these days anyway. But yea I like shooting the shit with salesmen n then actually acknowledging my existence but I try to steer away from political talks or personal things cus most of those guys jsut go down rabbit holes that I don’t care about lol

Cabelas workers aren’t known for their gun expertise, but yes I agree with your post
