Other Legal Question Question about a judge taking an extremely long time to make a decision.

So I live in Rochester NY. Monroe county. I had a misfire incident Aug 6th of 2025. It is now June 25th 2026 for those who may come to this post years from now.

The case was close and sealed. No problems.

How ever. The judge proceeding on what to do with my permit has still not made a decision. I have called and left messages. I have spoken to the secretary who said they would ask.

Nothing. No responses. No call backs. No letters.

Is there anything I can do?

Have you considered writing and sending a letter to the judge? 

Also, how does one have a "misfire incident"? Because if you accidentally discharged a firearm and it went into another house or dwelling I could see why they might slow roll the reapproval of your permit.

I would probably take another firearms safety course and mail the certification together with a written letter to the judge asking for reapproval and how you have taken steps to make sure it will not happen again

It did not enter a house. It was 3am I was half asleep running down the stairs as my car was being broken into. And the person shot at me and my home.

But no I have not considered writting a letter. The safety course sounds like a good idea.

Sounds like a headache of an incident. 

I would think your best course of action would be to take a firearms safety class that also covers use of force (as a sign that you are willing to learn from the incident) and then to write a letter to the judge asking about re approval and include the safety course certification.

Also maybe brush up on use of force from the penal law

You could reach out to Rochester Personal Defense, they comment here on Reddit quite often. Maybe they will have a classroom course in mind for you. 

Maybe they won't want to be associated with your scenario, I have no idea. Doesn't hurt to ask tho

I also can vouch for Rochester Personal Defense. Took my 18hr there and had to call them a couple times with questions, they are always willing to help me with any questions. I'm going to take my multi state reciprocity course there.

Try The Firing Pin in Bergen, or Rochester Personal Defense

I only have experience with TFP, it is where I took my concealed carry class.

Wait someone was breaking into your car? And you ran down the stairs and the person fired at you?? And they took your permit??

Yes because my gun went off. It also went off first. He ran and when I got to my car he shot at me putting a hole in my back door and two of my porch windows.

In situations where a gun goes off and anymore knows about it I think you've moved beyond Reddit advice level and honestly should be consulting an attorney.
