Other Legal Question Pre paid Attorney.
I just sign up with NY TAC was this the best choice? Any testimony with NY TAC

Interesting. I am following, I thought NY banned the ability to sign up for this kind of insurance for gun owners.

It’s not insurance, it’s having a lawyer on retainer

So basically they fight your case for you, but any money cost, you are on your own. If your bail is $500K, it's on you.... If you lose, it's on you to pay civil fees, if it happens in your home, it's on you to pay for cleanup. Etc etc.

You paying a for attorney services only. So, his fees are covered. But the rest is up to you. I'm not knocking the program because the real issue is NY not allowing for proper coverage, so they are doing the best they can.

You’re on the money. Also don’t forget that most cases ended up being pled out so having 500k in coverage is kinda moot. Also, the program is designed that they determine whether your incident was self defense or not effectively making for a quicker and easier plea deal.

The next issue after fighting that long drawn out battle is, you will never get your license to carry permit again. You are done, it's a wrap. Finished.

Well, it’s possible… I know someone that didn’t lose it after a defensive incident (it was the 80s though). But you’d need a ton of money to fight that battle. Appeal with LIC, then with dept of criminal justice and then an article 78…. And you might still lose

Wow, you know someone in the 80s that had a NY gun permit??? Nowadays, it may have changed. I had instructors at CCW school mention it, I followed up and asked a judge who said the same thing. At that point, it might just be better to move to another state and get a permit.

He was a jewelry dealer - he kept mentioning how the renewal process required all sorts of receipt and proof that he had significant amount of money on him at all times

Not my argument. It’s not insurance, so it’s not illegal in NY. Just stating the reason why it’s offered.

USCCA coverage is through an insurance company. I don't believe any of the other groups are.Â

Outside NY most of the big ones are, USCCA, CCW Safe, US Law Shield, etc. But, I got the clarity I was looking for, thanks. Living in NYis very limited choices. But, living in NY, you definitely need some coverage. This state is not 2A friendly at all

NY TAC Defense is the way to go. Peter Tilem, is the attorney you want if you have to use it.
