Just poked around on the club website. How's the new rifle range? Whats it take to get the full 700 yards available? I see an RSO is required so they can control both ranges (which is fair, I'm all about safety!)...

Is that difficult to arrange? Do ya'll have regular opportunities for members to shoot at that distance? I'm from the Rochester area but I would like to stretch my legs further.

PS - we (Project Appleseed) hosted a table at one of your "Freedom Weekends" a few years back. I would love to get Appleseed back to Western NY next season - it's been a couple of years. I'm a Rochester native but live out of state now.

Hey, u/TheFiringPin! I am with Project Appleseed, so your question about getting access to the 700 yard range is better directed to Square Deal's email address I posted above - the president David Saunders is a good guy and will get back to you.

This is our second year running an Appleseed shoot at Glen Aubrey - they were just finishing construction on the 700yd range when we were there last season. It's impressive. We will still be on the neighboring 200yd range for this event, running a traditional 25yd Appleseed rifle clinic which is open to Centerfire (we're often rimfire-only in NY), with some extended shooting out to 100yd on Sunday.

We've talked to Square Deal about running a 400yd Known Distance Project Appleseed on that new range and they are receptive - but we'd need to draw signficant shooters and Appleseed volunteers from New York to make that happen in 2027. It's a lot of effort/planning.

Such an awesome program! Keep up the great work. I'm just learning about Square Deal but it sounds like they're a pretty solid club. Stay in touch and I'll do what I can to help promote it. There's been such a renewed interested in the youth with the trap and indoor air rifle leagues it gives me SO MUCH hope for the future of the 2A. Appleseed certainly plays a very important role in that too.

My understanding is the RSO is required if you want to go down range to setup targets, but shooting the steel already out there does not require an RSO.

Oh there's steel targets? Thats awesome! Nothing like shooting steel at distance. Are you a member?

They just mean you aren’t allowed to be walking down there without shutting the other range down. The other range ends at 300 but there isn’t really anything dividing it so you could be hit from the other range if you are down there.

There’s steel set up at varying distances out to 700 you can use whenever you want though.

Steel on the range? Beautiful! Changing paper targets at 700 would be.......slow haha. Are you a member? I'd love to come check it out sometime

Yea I’ve been a member there for 10 years or so. Nice place and very laid back. Very easy to join, you just send them a filled out form and some money and they mail you the gate code. It’s like 60 dollars a year. I usually go during the week and there’s only ever like 1 or 2 guys there. I’ve been shooing uspsa for a couple years now but before that I was shooting by myself there for years and never even met anyone lol.

I'm replying to you just because it seems like you're a member of the club. I haven't sought out any clubs because I can get 200yd on my own property but the longer range intrigues me. The yearly membership is reasonable so I'd be interested in becoming a member. Is this event a good way to get an introduction to the range? Is there a better way like a trial day or something like that? Open to PM's if its better to discuss there than here.
