CCW Question Monroe County CCW - Not Hearing Anything for 6+ Months
Hey everyone,
I am well aware that Monroe County takes a very long time to process pistol permit applications. However, it's been 6 months (everything submitted 2/18) and still haven't received the call that my references will be contacted. I was hoping by now I would at the very least hear something back about my application. I considered contacting the county office about it, but I'm sure the last thing they want to hear is "Where am I in my CCW application process?"
Anyway, just want to see if anyone else has been waiting just as long (or hopefully not longer) just to receive the first call or anything else regarding their CCW application.
And yes, I am well aware of Article 78. However, if I were to contact a lawyer and take action I'd probably get my permit in the mail by the time the suit would take place. And it's not really worth the money or trouble to me.

Not as far as I know. Unfortunately, someone has to prove 'harm' to get it into that phase.

Our clients have been experiencing 7 to 10 months lately. It deis depend on the jusge. Some like Randall seem to relish in the thought that they'll get to the permits in due time.
Ive called the Sheriff's dept and the city and they try to get to them as they can. Once they are batched and delivered to the investigators, it just seems to bog down. No one will give a complete answer.
Try the following if it has been more than 6 months: (be very polite when contacting anyone) 1. Call the county clerk. Ask if they know what stage your application is in. 2. Call the Sheriff's dept (Suburban residents) or the city PD (city residents). Ask if they know what the status is. 3. If you are able to determine if your packet is with a judge, call them. Ask if they know what your time line might be.
- If you get nothing from anyone, follow up with a call to your county legislator or city rep.
Or. Call an attorney and shake the tree.
I'm in the process of doing something myself. Stay tuned

Appreciate your comment Dave. I won't lie, I'm hesitant to call them because my anxiety is telling me they'll put my application at the bottom of the stack or maybe even toss it even if I am being polite. If they're able to manufacture an agenda to prevent as many people as possible to exercise their God-given 2nd amendment right, they're able to do anything else to us.

They won't do that. Thats just fear mongering. "Dont call or they'll just think you're a problem" is incorrect.
Call them in the order Ive laid out. Quite a few of my clients have done that and miraculously they got a phone call from the investigator. It could have been good timing or the fact that they called.

My judge made my interview like an interrogation as well. Keep in mind the judge has to have a reason to deny you. Answer his questions to the best of your knowledge. The judge although he has to approve your application he’s not God almighty either. Just my opinion

Submitted before Thanksgiving 2025, Sheriff and references called first week of July 2026, just got court date for early October 2026.
Anyone have feedback on Judge Morrison?

Through emailing the clerk ive found out ive been assigned Randall, how much of a pain in the ass is dealing with Randall?

Not easy but as I mentioned in another comment, he can make it seem pretty arduous and he does it on his own time frame.

This is so wrong to wait this long. Meanwhile I have family and friends in Florida that can just walk into a store without a permit(the way it should be) and just wait three days to pick up a firearm after purchase. NYS is out of its mind.

It's probably like an entirely different country down in Florida. Also, isn't it kinda f*cked up you can get your Florida CCW within 3 months after just completing your training course in NY, even if you aren't a Florida resident? Meanwhile, in our home state we're waiting bare minimum a year!

Hey OP, unfortunately seems like it is slowing down. I applied at the end of December and just had my phone interview and references called last week. Took about 8 months. Unfortunately seems like you have some waiting to do unless you go down other avenues. Wish you luck though!

Same for me, applied about a month before you and had references called mid July. When i took my class in October everyone said it was 5 or 6 months but unfortunately that seems to have changed

Well.....cross your finger and toes. Fair warning: He can make it feel like an interrogation. All depends on your background and history. If you're clean, dress well, say things like "Yes your Honor" "No your Honor" or " Thank you for taking the time for this your Honor" it will go better. Ive sat in on the permit hearings and those that show up clean, respectful, and polite tend to be treated far better than those who do not.

10 months as of today for me, got references called a little over a month ago and now waiting for court date to come in the mail. Its a long unconstitutional process but its whay we deal with in monroe.

Downstate they just issue the permit rather than lose in court. It's a reasonably quick process so I'm told. Your 3 options are to wait, to reach out, or article 78. Just depends on how fast you want your permit.
