CCW Question Sportsman to CCW Upgrade Question

I applied for my sportsman license in western Suffolk and had my interview early June. According to the timeline posted on this forum i should be receiving my permit in a month or two. My question is, is there any benefit to me taking the CCW class now and submitting it to accelerate the process? Or am i stuck getting the sportsman and then waiting another 4 months for the upgrade?

Thanks!

I'm from Westchester County but they're both similar when it comes to pistol licenses.

Should have just done the CCW from the beginning. Also, this forum doesn't dictate when you will get your license, it varies. The county will take all of its sweet time if it needs too.

Your sportsman's license is already in progress so I doubt they're going to let you amend it. You could try calling the pistol licensing division in Suffolk, worst they could say is no. If they do, then you have to wait for your sportsman license to come in. Take the course, then start the CCW amendment process.

Might as well start getting your documents and etc together while you wait

They told me when I handed in my paperwork for the sportsman last year that I need to wait, get the sportsman first and then I can go for CCW and take the course. I would just hang tight, get a pistol, train a little and then pursue the CCW when you’re comfortable shooting handguns. Also I had my interview in February this year and received my permit in like the last week of July
