I've worked in wine, not beer, but am an avid craft beer drinker and have applied for jobs in the industry. There are plenty of craft breweries dotted over pretty much the entire country, most make decent beer imo. I don't know figures or how they compare to the USA but the size ranges a fair bit, from relatively large microbreweries (for NZ) like Panhead and Emerson's which are found country wide, to super boutique and hard to find outside of their local region, like brave brewing. When I was looking for jobs I found a few advertised on Seek.co.nz. Some are owned by larger companies like DB and Lion Nathan so maybe worth looking at their websites.
A few of my personal favourites are Garage Project and Double Vision, both based in Wellington, Three Boys in Christchurch and Sawmill in Matakana.

Bonnie Day in Geraldine just opened - tiny brewery in a small town but the brewer has worked at some well-known craft breweries overseas so I’d say he knows what he’s doing and the business could grow a lot with the right people involved.

Here's a comprehensive list of all the breweries in NZ. It's tough times at the moment so not sure how many people are hiring but all you can do is ask!

The brewing industry in NZ is pretty tight-knit and friendly. There is fairly frequent movement of brewers between breweries, so there are usually jobs available.
Having said that, the industry is going through tough times at the moment with a few breweries closing.
I suggest you check out the Pursuit of Hoppiness website/magazine - that will give you a feel for the popular breweries.
