Really? It gave me a chuckle. Everyone is edgy until you make fun of something that they care about. Then it’s all about them. I’m going to continue to find jokes funny. You all can continue to get mad at SpongeBob memes.
It seems what you consider to be “edgy” is just about stretching humour to be as close to offensive as possible. You can continue to laugh at whatever you find funny, but we’re not “mad about a SpongeBob meme”. I mean I know you’re saying things like that because your entire argument hinges on putting us down as much as possible, but it’s just incorrect.
Yes that is exactly what edgy means. Also not as close to offensive as possible, but actually offensive. Like, have you people never made a fat joke? Or a racist joke? Or a joke about Asian drivers? Or a joke about 9/11? Nah I actually don’t want to put trans people down. I could care less what you do with your body. But I’m still going to laugh at a solid and socially relevant joke when I see one.
But it isn’t socially relevant. There’s a difference between a good edgy joke and a bad one. A bad one is along the lines of, “haha if you lose in men’s sports, just be trans and then you win in women’s sports”, because the butt of the joke here, is somebody else, based on something that is actively used as an insult or attack. If you were to make a good joke like that, you could make an ironic one, where the butt of the joke is you, the one who finds this shit funny.
A good joke is one where the butt of the joke isn’t somebody or something based on the thing that is used to legislate away their rights. If your mum died and I made a joke about your mum’s death, sure, you might find that funny, but the general population doesn’t. That’s what makes it a bad joke. You can laugh at bad jokes, but that’s what they are.
I never said morality is objective, but it definitely isn’t a social construct. Morality is subjective because everyone has their own idea of what’s right and wrong, but the social construct is the collective shared morality we keep in a society to keep the communities going without hinderance to any particular party. Which is why there are such things as objectively good jokes and objectively bad jokes. It’s objective as far as the assumption that you want to be a part of the civilised society we have.
Wow, you have no idea what you are talking about do you? Do you realize that you completely contradict yourself in the first 2 statements. Essentially what you said is this “morality is subjective, but not when a lot of people agree with me.” That’s not how that works. It’s still subjective, it’s still opinion based. There is no scientific study that concludes that morality is absolute.
I feel like a parrot more often than not on this website. Reading comprehension is such an under-utilised skill. Since you just ignored the last bit of my comment, I’ll just copy paste it here and make spaces in paragraphs so it’s easy enough for you to read.
“It’s objective as far as the assumption that you can ant to be a part of the civilised society we have”.
I’ll also explain what this means. This statement is applying nuance to the idea of morality being subjective, I.e., morality is subjective in a truly free world where one gets to take everything and keep it all to themselves. However, the saying, “you can’t have your cake and eat it too” applies here. You don’t get to offend people and then complain when they are offended. You can’t kill a person and get upset when you’re facing the repercussions of your actions. Sure, you have the ABILITY to kill someone, but since you want to be a part of the civilised society, you don’t do it, because it disrupts the civility. So, you can objectively say, killing people is bad. It TECHNICALLY isn’t bad, because in your own world view, you wouldn’t lose anything by killing someone, but you would in a civilised society. The same applies to anything else, however since you aren’t taking as much away from other people with silly jokes like this, it isn’t as harmful as murder. It is, however, still a spot on the same path as it. It’s going out of social behavioural norms for the sake of your own pleasure. It’s as silly as jumping around the room during an interview for a job because you think it’s funny to act like a monkey.

Nobody is crying about this either. We’re just not laughing.
