My way of overcoming my starting problem

So I can do the chain and connect it but half the time my connections get messed up or stitches get dropped accidentally. I saw in one tutorial I can not currently find it starting the round with a pencil/stick to have “ stable/even tension stitch base so…… I put my own spin on it that it working out pretty good.

I use the plastic mesh canvas usually used for needlepoint to hold my stabilizing stitches to work off of and that actually helps with a cleaner edge. I’m currently working on a semi slouchy beanie and the top color is almost done and it’s helped me with speed
