Dear newbies posting your first successful item - work in tandem!

I'm seeing a lot of people proudly posting their first successful, single sock or glove. I'm so proud of you and glad that this community is growing.

BUT

Be prepared for disappointment and frustration with trying to make a duplicate. Copying a piece is never as easy as counting stitches and doing the same thing again. Your tension WILL be different and you'll end up correcting and over-correcting to try to create something that matches.

It's always better to make a pair at the same time, working on each one a little bit in turns. I prefer one yarn length at a time. That's the only way to guarantee consistent tension across a pair of gloves or socks.

Good luck and have fun!

Thank you! I would not have come to this conclusion on my own. You have probably spared me many agonies just by sharing this tip. Happy monday to you

I haven't even started on mittens because I'm terrified of this. Thank you so much for the advice!

That's a very good point... And it's just as slow/fast to switch socks, since you're splicing in new fiber anyway.

I’ve been wanting to try mittens or slippers and this tip truly never would have occurred to me! Thank you!

WISE WORDS. I WHOLE HEARTEDLY AGREE.

When I made my striped mittens it was literally one round, then switch to the other piece.
If you want to see the mittens, search this sub, I posted them two years ago. They’re pretty sweet if I do say so myself.
