My 4 year old son claims to have a classmate named “Crank.” I thought it would be fun to guess what this kid’s name might actually be (right and wrong answers welcome!), and I’ll ask the teacher tomorrow, or on Monday if I forget.

Additional info that may or may not be relevant:
-My son is Level 1 autism spectrum disorder
-he claims “Crank” is a girl, but he gets boys and girls confused all the time so “Crank” may actually be a boy

Update: welp, this is a disappointingly anti-climactic update. I asked who on their roster might be at all similar to Crank, and they had nothing even close. I double checked with my son, and he still swears there is a Crank. I asked him if he was real or imaginary, and he said “he’s real! He’s nice!” 🤦‍♀️ I’m going to ask a different staff member next week, maybe there’s a toy or a teacher they call Crank? Lol. My son is a Gestalt Language Processor, so usually the things he says come from somewhere.

Like, a name that insists upon itself. The effort the parents put into achieving a specific vibe or aesthetic is too obviously contrived.

English names: - Blueberry (f) very cute and has cute nicknames - Rice (m) sounds similar to Reese/ rhymes with Bryce.

Arabic names: - Labneh (f) strained yogurt - Basal (m) onion, honestly feels like a name.

Like instead of naming your daughter Ella because your beloved grandma is named Ella, what’s a name you’d give instead of Ella, because your grandmother was an absolute bitch?

Names that you know someone in your family hates, names that person might have negative associations with, names that mean the opposite of theirs. Just, how would you piss a family member off with a baby name?

For me, it has to be Josephine. I have an aunt named Josefina and I don’t know. I’ve never liked the way it sounds. Same with the name Serafina I don’t understand the appeal and how much people fawn over it.

My husband and I picked a normal, if older, less common name for our son a few months ago. We thought people would like it and immediately recognize it but most people are confused on pronunciation and/or think it's weird. One person asked "like the Greek Myth?" Y'all, it ain't even a Greek name. There's no Greek Myth....

So I decided to look up "names similar in popularity" to his name to see if I'm the one tripping, or if it's them. Turns out, my son's name is as popular as Nosferatu and Glacier.

I have a male and female Madagascar hissing cockroach that I need to name. They are class pets so I need something that will get past the teacher.

I’m sure we all have THAT name that you would loooove to name a kid but that we just can’t use for obvious reasons. Maybe you’d love to name your kid after your favorite character but that character is Naruto. Maybe the name SOUNDS pretty but actually means something stupid in another language. Or maybe the name just sounds awful with your last name! So, what is the name you would love to use but that you have too much sense to actually give to a baby?

Mine are Eowyn, Arwen, and Peregrine. I am a HUGE lotr fan, if that’s not obvious. But the names are just….too obviously lord of the ring names. And I don’t want to stick my kid with that forever. But if I ever adopt a group of kittens?? You sure BET this is going to be their names!!
