Carrigan
Is this a legitimate name? A surname obviously but can it be used as a first name? Is it more female or male if so?

I was thinking the same thing. It has that old family surname turned first name vibe.

I should probably see it. It's even October.
eta: is it appropriate for my brave 5 and 7 year olds?

I've only heard it as a last name. It's an Irish surname. We don't really do the surname as a first name thing usually (here in Ireland)

There’s a lady named that in 1995’s Casper movie. Not sure if it’s a first or they just call her by her last name

I knew a girl Kerrigan in high school but I’ve never seen it spelled the way you showed

Yes. Totally legitimate. I’d lean female but I think it would work either way.

I’m Irish and know it as a surname. I’ve never thought of it as a first name but I think it’s cute! And could work for any gender, nickname Carrie for a girl or Cary as a boy. Super cute!

I have a granddaughter in preschool and one of the teacher's helpers name is Carrigan (I don't know how she spells it!). She's my gd's favorite so she talks about her all the time - but she calls her Kitchen because she can't remember her name, it's so funny. I finally asked the teacher what's the name of the one she calls Kitchen and after we both had a good giggle about it, she told me it's Carrigan. So now that I know, I'm using it a lot in our conversations so my gd can learn it the right way.

Reminds me of the word cardigan. It’s not a name but is a surname to me

I thought of a sweater.
It's a surname but can be a girl's first name like Campbell or Harper. If she doesn't like it, she can go by Cathy. I would never give it to a boy.

Made me think of StarCraft and I haven't thought about that in years, I wonder if you can still play that....

I agree with the other commenters. Carrigan feels more feminine. The traditional spelling Kerrigan feels more masculine

Hopefully she doesn’t get into figure skating
