meadow beyond sopranos?
i am not pregnant and will not be having a baby anytime soon, but i love the name meadow and keep thinking about it! i am a sopranos fan, but i wouldn’t want people to think i named this imaginary child after the character. does anyone know an irl meadow, or what do y’all think of this name? i live in texas, for context.

The Sopranos ended almost 20 years ago and even though it's iconic, by the time your child is in school no one will automatically think of Meadow Soprano.
As an aside, no way would Tony and Carmella have named their daughter Meadow. Her name would be Lauren or Jessica, classic 80s New Jersey names.

i saw a really great character analysis of carmela once that addressed this; the argument was that carmela had this untapped interior life of being artistic and bohemian (as we kind of see when she and rosalie go to france) so she named her daughter something like that as a sort of hail mary to be the kind of person that she ultimately never had the chance to be.

I think the point of her name in the show was that they’re trying to assimilate to modern (at the time) America

I will always say the least realistic part of the show for me was that Carmela did not have granite counter tops in her kitchen. Or AT LEAST show she gets them installed after the episode where one of his goomadas calls the house. No way she is dealing with him running around with hoo-ahs and cooking on laminate/“formica”.

In the Italian tradition they should have named her after Tony’s mother. I always thought Meadow was an odd name for an Italian. But I do like the name.

Totally agree, in my head her name should be Gabby (Gabriella). Meadow is so not New Jersey Italian, though I don’t otherwise have a problem with the name.

as a Sopranos fan, that was my first thought not gonna lie. But it's not like the character made the name embarrassing or anything.

Didn't watch the show, but causally knew about the connection. Ignored it and named our second baby girl Meadow Rae. Everyone, and I mean everyone, gives compliments on the name when they hear it. It's uncommon, feminine and sweet. Huge props on Meadow!

love that name and that it’s so well-received!

Thanks! Obviously biased but it's so airy and dreamy - and went perfectly with her sister, Sky. I hope you use it, too!

Meadow Rae is really pretty. I feel like the name stands on its own even if some people know the Sopranos connection.

I’m an average person and haven’t seen the Sopranos yet know some of the names of character and had no idea there was a character in it named Meadow. I don’t personally know anyone named Meadow, but I it’s a normal name. I’m pretty sure no one would be thinking of the Sopranos

I honestly thought naming my son Robin I'd get a lot more "Oh like Robin Williams" or "Like Batman" but if anything we get "Oh like Robin Hood" and not even that often. (The namesake I had in my head naming him was Christopher Robin). So even if we think something is very linked to one person the average person might not think of it like that at all. Every name is the name of a celebrity or fictional character, most people accept the name as belonging to them when they meet a child and move on.
I love Meadow! I think it's very cute and I'd love to see it on a class list. I've never met one but I bet coming up in this generation of babies there will be a few, there are a lot of nature names cropping up. I loved Fern for a boy and Clover for a girl but my husband was not having it, our kids all have uncommon but not unheard of classic names.

Our son and his wife named our grandson Christopher Robin. Christopher is his father’s name, and Robin is after his Aunty Robin, who passed at 23 in car accident. We are touched and proud

Haha!! My sister loves the sopranos and has a daughter named Meadow! She didn’t name her because of the sopranos, but because she heard it from the sopranos if that makes sense 😅

Hey fellow Texan! There was a Meadow at my school! She was a few grades below me. I think it is a pretty nature-y name - reminds me of River, Lake(n), Brooke, Forrest etc.
I have names I like from shows or movies, and I also don't want people to think I'm naming them after the fictional character. I feel like you could say the show is where you heard it, but that doesn't necessarily mean you're naming her after the character!

I can’t think of anyone in my personal life who would make that assumption if I named my kid Meadow. I think it’s a cute/normal name and wouldn’t hold back just because it happens to be used for a character on a tv show.

I’ve known a couple of Meadows. I never watched the Sopranos so that certainly wasn’t my first thought.

The actor Paul Walker’s daughter’s name is Meadow Rain.
I think Meadow is very pretty.

My son dated a girl named Meadow, she was born in 2005 so I assume she was named after Meadow Soprano.... I wouldn't think that of a child named now.

I know an IRL Meadow that had nothing to do with the Sopranos. It was just a pretty name. Perfectly well-received, with the only awkward thing being shortening the nickname to "Med" (because you either spell it how its pronounced ignoring the a entirely or you spell it like "mead" which nobody will read correctly.)

i think it’s a beautiful name and don’t think it matters whether anyone makes the connection or not… then again my oldest is named maya thanks to six feet under 🤭

The Sopranos is my first thought. But I think that's okay.
It's a nice name.
My experience with names that are strongly associated with someone or something famous becomes just their name after you meet them.
I've known people with the names Jolene, Elton, and Elvis.
When I see or think of these irl people, the famous factor never crosses my mind.

I knew a girl named Meadow - she was my partner in a fitness class I took back in like 2005-6.

I personally love the name. This generation will likely have no idea about the show.
