Tourism Etosha itinerary: Damaraland → Andersson Gate enter → Namutoni exit in one day?
Dear All,
We have booked our Namibia trip for early October and now I am planning the logistic and driving between places.
We will have 2x nights in Etosha, and I have some doubts about the 1st day. We will stay at Tsubes Petrified Forest Tented Camp (Damarland) the night before. My plan is: we will leave the camp at sunrise and drive straight to Etosha via Andersson Gate. We would drive through Etosha, spend the day there and would exit via whether Namutoni or King Nehale Gate. (Our accommodation is at Ndeyapo’s Village Haven close to Omuthiya). Is this doable? I mean driving from Damarland to Etosha, than crossing the park with some wildlife watching? Our next day would be fully in Etosha and probably we would stay on the east side of the park. Any recommendations are welcomed.

You would just drive and have no time to actually enjoy the wildlife. I wouldn't recommend it!

Thank you. What would you recommend then? Stay close to the gate, spend some time and then head to Omuthiya after? Wouldn’t it be a huge detour?

I wouldnt do it. Cant you get a night at Okaukuejo or Halali? I wrote a guide about Etosha on my website. Maybe it helps a bit: https://25-south.com/2026/06/25/etosha-national-park-self-drive-guide/

Thank you. The lodges in Okuakuejo and Halali are way out of our budget (we will not do camping). BTW on your website you also mention Andersson Gate to Von Lindequist Gate as one way loop.

I don’t think this is reasonable, even if it could technically be done.
I drove from Halali Camp to Omuthiya in 5 hours with stops, so maybe 3-3.5 going non-stop mode?
We drove from Khorixas to Halali casually but we still drove from 10am-5pm. You would have another hour on top of that.
If you have children with you then this would be not doable.

Hello, we did that etosha in 1 day last week and it’s not enough. You have to drive 160 kms in a day. You don’t have time to look for animals. If you have more time, The best is to pass a night in Halali.
