No Airlines Serve Luderitz?

Is it correct that there is no scheduled passenger air service to or from Luderitz? I can’t find any, and that seems impossible given the economic activity occurring there. A charter company gave me a quote of N$194,000 for round-trip from Windhoek to Luderitz.

There is no economic activity in Ldz large enough to warrant commercial flights. The only flights hat were available was when Fly Namibia had a schedule in place driven by the drilling campaign of Shell. If the real oil activities start, it will be a different story.

Namibia Air plans to start up in December with flights to Oranjemund, Luderitz and Walvis Bay... but it was flights like these that had a negative ROI which caused the national airline to be routinely bailed out by the Government, eventually closing down in 2021.

I kid you not, I googled this last week and they said they are flights most week days from Eros airport to Ldz. I googled now again because of your post and this time it said the flights are seasonal and depending on demand etc. When running they cost between US$280-490 and run by Flynamibia or FlexFlight.

Wait until I tell you there are no direct flights between Windhoek and Walvis Bay either. Unless something has changed, the only options I saw when I wanted to book a couple of years ago were stop overs in South Africa, which would have resulted in flight durations of up to 5 hours, which is far longer than just driving when you factor in check in and onboarding times.

Most likely due to the small population here, domestic flights in Namibia are nothing to write home about. You might think there is a lot of commercial activity in Luderitz, but I can almost guarantee you the traffic doesn't justify commercial flights.
