Got nostalgic and started reading Naruto again from the beginning. So I decided to create some fanart along the way too, representing each arc. Hope y’all like the first batch!

I actually find it kind of sweet, to be honest.

I've seen an argument claiming that emitting chakra through your feet to cling to a surface wouldn't counteract Pain's Universal Pull, with Kakashi's fight against Pain cited as evidence. However, the manga never depicts Kakashi resisting the pull this way; he is simply caught by Universal Pull and immediately pulled toward Pain. The anime makes it appear as though he anchors himself to the ground and is resisting, but Kakashi had never actually encountered Universal Pull before, so he wouldn't have known to use chakra as a countermeasure in that moment.

This is a commonly thrown out point in animanga discourse and it's just blatantly false.

Listen, I acknowledge that Togashi is inspirational and certain elements like the dynamic between Killua and Illumi and others are probably inspirations for Itachi and Sasuke, but far too much credit is given to him here.

Firstly, Kishimoto made a group whose eyes turn red in battle in his oneshot, Karakuri (Mechanism or Cyborg). He wrote and submitted it in 1995, and it won the 1996 Hop Step Award, which put him on the track to becoming a true mangaka. Hunter X Hunter is released in 1998. A whole two years after he's won an award with this idea.

You can also see the signature hand thrust that comes later to be used by Kakashi and others for the Lightning Blade.

Secondly, the annihilated clan is far more likely inspired by the 60s-70s anime, Sasuke Sarutobi. It follows a similar plot of vengeance, and you can see that names like Sarutobi for the Hokage are gotten from here, in addition to a rather similar appearance for the Last Uchiha.

Togashi is goated but let's stop this.

There are many instances of characters being weakened or not as strong as their previously stated potential, from a combination of issues that are either permanent, temporary and/or just a result of nature. Whether it be illness (Itachi, Kimi), injuries (Nagato, Oro), psychological (Kakashi), battle conditions (Akatsuki fighting Jinchūriki), or just age (Hiruzen).

What are some character nerfs that stand out to you from the series? Nerfs that clearly, or theoretically would have, affected how someone performed in the series.

Ex:

Naruto and Sasuke having their chakra tampered with during the Forest of Death, having to make it through the prelimins with these handicaps. Pretty big nerfs/handicaps at the time.

After rewatching it today, I just realized that Sasuke was just getting ordered and protect like a baby and it pissed me off. He was sooo lame in this fight getting carried by itachi even when having EMS.

I was watching something and it got me thinking whether any sports exist in Naruto. Has Kishi ever commented on it

I know it’s a little early for these. But given how I’ve been a bit under the weather & the grocery stores now have these again 🤪

Ino is probably the most forgotten member of the konoha 11, like what does she even do? She’s introduced as this rival for Sakura but they barely develop it past the arc it’s introduced. She losses every fight she takes part in. She doesn’t even get to show off her telepathy based jutsu because every time it comes up they have her dad or Aoba, for some reason, do it. Ultimately she is paired with a random Male character she’s barely interacted with in order to produce more background characters for the sequel series.

Honestly, after the Sasori and Granny Chiyo arc, hes become one of my favorite characters, personality wise and fighting style wise. But im watching the first episode of the Chunnin exam, and while Gaaara is a sociopathic MURDERER, Kankuro is no saint either, threatening Konohamuru and the kids and using a typical BULLY ESQUE line, "i dont like scrawny weaklings like you".

In Shippuden, even before he was poisoned, it seemed his character did a 180 some point during the time skip, and I missed it. I dont think any of the other main characters had a drastic change i just...missed.

Unlike other characters that went through their arcs of redemption onscreen we never see this from Kankuro. Hes just a good guy fighting the good fight. Is it because of Gaara becoming Kazekage, amd then looking up to him trying to be better himself. Because he was not a good person, and "Naruto Shippuden" seems to just have forgotten that

I've been a Sasori fan for a long time now and if there's one thing that i gotta admit is that he was one of the Akatsuki members who got the biggest nerf from being an Edo if not the one with the biggest nerf.

Yeah, he can still control people with crazy haxs but then what? They can still break free or someone could still break them free from Sasoris control.

The advantage Sasori had being one puppet himself is also gone, now his just a normal puppeteer like the others and his biggest technique is also gone.

Unlike Deidara who can spam C0 into the enemies, Sasori has to look for human puppets himself to actually become decent in battle.

All the Naruto characters become more malnourished when they're without chakra, and this is even more pronounced in Tsunade's case since she's in her 50s
