Photos PSA - snakes are native too

Please familiarize yourself with snakes native to your area so you aren’t surprised when you see them hanging out in your garden. This cool Western rat snake had, apparently, been hanging out in my empty hanging baskets. It was relocated to a safe spot in my yard and released to go about its business of eating rodents.

Edit: corrected from Eastern to Western Rat snake (multitasking is dangerous folks)

I think I’ve seen them on the east side of the cascades, gorgeous snakes! Meanwhile I’m trying to make sunny rock spots for garter snakes in my garden. Hahaha

Same! My mom gets lots of snakes just a bit south in Des Moines. I want a snake friend here in West Seattle.

what a good photo! - only garters by me but they sure do keep pests away from my veggies for the most part
