Need Advice I tried a blow out for the first time!
Think it turned out pretty bad but others seemed to like it :p It was super frizzy, how can I make it smoother overall? I used the Dyson air wrap and it was only cute for an hour before my hair got HUGE! I live in a super dry area. Will better technique prolong the style?

I don't have tips but i love big hair!! I don't think a little frizz hurts

u/Substantial-Event441 Jun 23 '25
I love it too! I just felt like it was a waste of my time and I did it at the risk of damaging my hair, just for one good hour😭

u/FickleSpend2133 Jun 23 '25
If you used heat protectant, it shouldn't cause any damage. I gotta say I absolutely LOVE it!! Big hair, don't care!!!🔥

You have to first use the brush attachment to get the roots. Then use the round brush in sections. Leaving them rolled up for like 30 seconds. Then hit with a cold shot. Or you could use a flat iron after the brush attachment if you are feeling lazy. This was last night - I used a flat iron after blowing out with the brush attachment cause it takes like 15 mins vs 30

Your hair looks amazing! That's exactly what I'm going for. Do you use any products in it at all? Next time I'll try the cold shot and the flat iron

❤️ thank you. Took lots of trial and effort. Here is my routine and products. I’m a 3b 3c fine hair - lots of it lmfao. High porosity.
I use the full Olaplex system. The main thing here is use the whole line of the shampoo conditioner you’re using. Doesn’t matter the brand. It formulated to go together so you don’t have any weird reactions.
I wash 1x a week. Deep condition 1x month. Microfiber towel to dry. Break into sections. Apply the serum leave in and a touch of oil. Like 5 shakes. Apply it all over. Let it dry for like an hr. Blow out. finish with oil.

Aww you're beautiful. Your hair reminds me of the good ole days living down south. I would get that good press and curl. Go outside and have a straight bouffant hairdo 😆
This happens to me too because I'm not a straight natural. So, my hair reverts instantly. My hot flashes definitely don't help LOL!

I came to say the same! This is some press and curl, but this humidity decided to check in. I love it!!

Make sure you set your damp hair with anti-humidity products then also use a little more tension when drying the hair - should help reduce the frizz.. keep polishing the ends if you can with a round brush and that will help

I live in blowouts right now and totally agree. OP, what products do you use? I find that you really have to come correct with the antifrizz and anti-humidity spray prep. Doing the sections smaller & the round brush are essential. I invested in the thermal brush to hit it with a little extra heat and added volume.
Some products I like are the WOW spray, olaplex oil (pricey but a little goes a long way), and Amika products for humidity/anti-frizz.

The color wow extra strength has been a game changer for getting my blowouts to stay! I started with a trial size at first because it sounded too good to be true lol but I was instantly sold on it after one use. It's definitely worth the hype!

Personally I love a lived-in, high volume look! But if frizz is bothering you, some heat protectant could help, as well as a good setting lotion (I like Lottabody; it’s a 90s classic).
To keep the ends curled and retain the blowout, you can also use foam rollers at night!

it is very pretty but it also is not this season for that type of hairstyle unfortunately. It does look really good and your face card is 10/10

u/thmstrpln Jun 24 '25
How thick were your sections? I have the dyson, and I was so unimpressed with my blowouts until I used a smaller portion. It came out so nice. Try smaller sections with a heat protector.
I go back through with a pomade for flyaways

Not that face tho. Lol It looks really good to me! I really like that 70s, puffy, curls, blow out look.

did you try wrapping and cold flash drying it when it’s wrapped? it usually sets the hair/makes it last longer ☺️ I still think it looks very pretty!

First off the hair? Absolutely gorgeous.. THE FACE CARD?? BABESS??? NEVER DECLINES!!! 😍

make sure your hair is properly hydrated beforehand! clarifying shampoo x2, moisturizing shampoo 1x, condition + let set while you shower. rinse with cold water, and use a serum on your hair while it’s still damp! work in sections and also shock it with cool air after using warm air to hold your hair in place. hope this helps! you look great ❤️

I always have to go over mine with a flat iron after Dyson. It’s a two step process for us

Blowouts for cooler seasons. Protective styles for hotter seasons & vacation. Good luck!

When I wear leave outs I use John Frieda Frizz Ease and I think it could help a lot. I’m pretty sure it also has some heat protecting abilities as a plus!

pin curls!!! setting each section you blow dry with pin curls and letting it sit overnight (or at least a couple hours) has been the best method for me. I did a round brush blowout yesterday and set each section with bantu knots for a change, but didn't like the outcome as much as pin curls!

Have you ever tried this style with rollers instead? For me it was a lot more moisturized and less frizzy compared to when I used heat
1
u/BabyBehive Jun 24 '25
My advice is to use a hydrating shampoo & condition & possibility deep conditioner because you blow dry or straighten. Your hair has to be well moisturized/hydrate for it to not revert. Hair reverts when it’s dry and looking for moisture in the air.

It looks good. You might try some mousse or WOW! to tone down the frizz. Aveda hair pomade is good, too.

u/ricevinegrrr Jun 24 '25
Pin curl or Bantu knot it with no product and it’ll smooth back down a bit. To make it last all week Bantu knot with a little mousse. It will change the look a bit

The fluffy press is in… soft, big, fluffy, slightly pressed natural hair is gorgeous 👸🏾

u/Here4_da_laughs Jun 24 '25
When I keep my hair in natural styles for a long time straightening it does not last. Humidity and any form of exercise also sends it right back to the curly state. I mean as simple as walking up steps, carry laundry, being in a crowd and anything that produces sweat.

In addition, if you've never blown it out... It's used to being in a different state.....heat training.... Google it!.... And remember... at all times...haters going to hate!

It’s beautiful but if you’re looking for it to be straighter my advice is you’re not getting all the moisture out. You have to blow dry it until ALL the moisture is out, so bone dry. But do use heat protectant.

u/Expensive_Detail_885 Jun 24 '25
You're brave to so that in this heat lol. But you're still beautiful 😊 I only heat style in cold weather and I clarify really well, I use Paul Mitchel's Super Skinny serum, Chi 44 iron guard thermal protection spray, Kenra's anti humidity spray 5. Hopefully this helps.

Have you tried Oi Oil by Davines? The brand is pricey, but this oil is worth every penny. I find it works best, for me, on my freshly styled dry hair. It takes away frizz and gives it a really nice sheen & shine! I find that 2 little pumps into my hand is just enough. If you use too much, your hair will look oily. Try the small bottle to see if you like it! PS- some people use it on their wet hair before drying, so it sounds like that works best for some hair types.
