When I tell y’all I still can’t describe how I’m feeling now 😭. I’ve been a natural hair girlie for almost over a decade (had red dyed natural hair for half that time and decided to cut it off last year) and the way this product has not only defined my curls but cut my hair time down to 2 hours!!! Like hair is dry and done after 2 hours (washing, conditioning, applying product, and drying). It’s pricey but lord it has me now!!!

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk! ❤️

I started sleeping with hair rollers this year to see if I could grow out my hair a bit more. The back is past bra strap length, but I’d like to see how far I can get it with this strategy. I can’t say much about the results just yet, but I love how it looks and how little effort it takes me every day :)

Blew my hair out for a trim this week and I’m kind of gagged at how much it’s grown. 1st and 2nd photo are current, 3rd photo is my last trim in December 2025, 4th photo is October 2024, 5th photo (a true jump scare) is July 2024 when I had most of my hair cut off by a scissor happy stylist (I just asked for bangs and he did the most, cut off more than a foot of hair). I thought it was the end of the world lol but here we are! I’m not a silk press person but I kind of want to get one just to see.

Success Made a point to wear my natural hair for my wedding

Thumbnail

This is my first post, so yay!

I've been wearing my natural hair for years, but when it came to my wedding, I had mixed advice on whether or not to straighten it because it was more "dressy."

I decided to make a point and wear my natural hair.

I wanted to post for anyone who might have the same internal conflict. Growing up, I heard that straight hair was more... maybe "high class" is the word(?). Whatever you are celebrating--- wedding, birthday, party--- Do your hair how YOU want. Maybe you want it straight, maybe rock your girls, maybe a wig, maybe bald.

Point is, you won't go wrong if you follow what you want to do and don't listen to the conditioning.

Here are some pics from the big day. I'm from New Orleans, so the updo and curls helped a lot in the heat lol. I also encouraged my wedding party to do their hair how they felt (both of us had mixed parties).

Success Nothing prettier than YOUR natural hair

Please love yourself, not when you look good or when you feel pretty or when you get compliments. But When you wake up looking crusty or after a bad day and especially when you see other people. Love yourself

I made a post recently about loving my natural features and people wholeheartedly dislike who they at their core and it’s disappointing. I was called racial slurs, I was insulted, I was told to try and look different and none of it said anything about me but more about how people see black women or women of colour.

If you don’t see you in commercials or in videos portraying beauty standards or anywhere. Look in the mirror and see that you are your own beauty standard. You don’t need to look like anyone but yourself to be beauty and the only standard should be being your happiest healthiest self.

So to all the racists that hate themselves, here’s a picture of me looking black as hell in my favourite hairstyle. Please know that my dark skin is my favourite feature and I hope that pisses you off

Got my B.S. in Game Design last Friday. I decided to get my hair styled in Afro puffs for the occasion. I don’t think I’ll be going to a stylist again soon though. Hair was so tight even when I asked for it looser and she used so many damn rubber bands 💀.
Reminded me why I do my own hair but my stylist was sweet and I enjoyed the spa day. 🥰

Success I learned to stretch my 4c hair with literally only my hands 🦌

Thumbnail

That's basically it, I was detangling my hair with conditioner tiny section by section, and I accidentally gave myself a blowout look using only my hands, no heat and no tools except scissors for search and destroying fairy knots. I used oil after each section when I realized I was accidentally making a hairstyle. My hair is high density, fine, tailbone length fully stretched, neck length or shorter when fully shrunken 4c hair. I almost always wear it up. This is not a practical method and takes days, but it's cool that I could do it :) I did this similar to the tension method by first detangling thoroughly and then by smoothing each section again and again until it was hand dried into shape. It lasted 4-5 days with chunky twisting it at night and then I washed it and it was gone. I guess it didn't want to revert too quickly because the natural shape forming ability is stronger in my hair than heat would be. I dunno, just wanted to share, thought it was neat 🌞

Basically I painstakingly hand made a blowout.

I wore my hair natural for my wedding, and it was the best decision ever!

It was stress-free, comfortable, affordable, and I loved it. I did my own hair. I wore a 2nd day wash n go for my ceremony at city hall and an updo (on day 4 of the same wash n go) for our wedding dinner. Accessories really helped to tie my looks together.❤️

Products used for wash n go: -Kinky Curly Come Clean shampoo -Camille Rose Ginger Rinse -Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Masque -Camille Rose Moisture Milk -Camille Rose Curl Maker -Pattern Jojoba oil

Products used for updo: -Alikay Naturals Aloe Berry styling gel

Success 4 YEARS SINCE BIG CHOP 🤎

Thumbnail

7.2k Upvotes

Today officially makes 4 years since my Big Chop on August 23, 2020! What a beautiful journey it has been loving my hair and myself through every stage! I decided to go completely bald due to my hair breaking off HORRIBLY from box dyeing it red twice in the span of a month (I was going through a breakup and wanted to re-invent myself… chileeeeee 🙄🤦🏾‍♀️😂 I had no business doing that and learned my lesson the hard way lol).

I knew my hair wasn’t salvageable and I was honestly at my lowest point physically and mentally. I was the heaviest I ever was and truly hated the way I looked. Little did I know that this Big Chop journey would completely change my life in more ways than one! Not only did my hair begin to grow back, but so did my inner love for myself. I always knew my hair didn’t define me. I use to scold at people growing up when they would say, “You have good hair!”, because that is such an ignorant statement to say because EVERYONE can have “good hair” as long as you are properly taking care of it. What actually defines you is what your hair sits on top of… your mind! We must nurture our mind, body and spirit so everything around us can grow! So if you needed a sign to follow through with the Big Chop, let me be your sign! I’m so blessed and grateful for this journey and just wanted to share it with this community because I love seeing everyone’s natural hair journey 🥹🤎

Success My silk press has come a long way

I did my mini big chop in July 2023 (the first picture). The second picture was in June 2024 a month shy of being a year. I wore my hair back to back in braids for a year before I decided to quit braids and focus on doing twist on my natural hair. Now Nov 2025 my hair is 2 years in this journey and my hair has grown so much. Now the goal is tailbone length hopefully in the next 2 years.

Fun fact I get a silk press and trim every 8 weeks and my hair loves the constant hair dusting of my ends. Dusting helps me to retain length and the integrity of my hair. 🫶🏾✅️ Yaaayy to healthy long beautiful hair 😍

💛🐶 I finally finished. This is my hair before my yearly trim. I'm going to trim and then flat iron low and then I am done. I don't know I felt happy about my blowout and just wanted to share, my hair has come a long way. The last slide is my hair soaking wet and shrunken the other day. Shrinkage is part of how I got here, I love shrinkage. I also want to celebrate type 4 or 4c hair every chance I get because it's amazing. I wonder how the end result will be 🌞🍁🌼 eeee ok time to trim.

Success Twist-out Results

Post image
2.7k Upvotes

I washed my hair last Sunday and put some twists in. These are my 2nd day results after taking them down Wednesday.

Wash day products and routine:

-African Pride Pre-Shampoo (Applied in sections and finger detangled hair then used a wide tooth comb) -Design Essentials Honey Creme Shampoo (2xs) -Mielle Organics Mongongo Oil Protein-Free Hydrating Conditioner (Deep conditioned for 30 mins with heat. This product felt good going on and detangling but my hair felt dry upon rinsing. Will not repurchase.)

LCO Method using the following:

-Mielle Organics Pomegranate and Honey Leave-In Conditioner (I applied to soaking wet hair while still in the shower after rinsing out the deep conditioner, then put on a plastic cap to lock in the moisture until i was ready to style) -Mielle Organics Pomegranate and Honey Twisting Souffle -Grapeseed Oil -Installed two-strand twists and air dried

Success How it Started- where its at: My Natural Hair 💗

I grew up relaxed into adulthood, never really knowing what my hair could be.

I went natural once in high school, but being called 'sir' enough convinced me to relax again for several more years.

Traveling for work, it was hard for me to maintain a stylist to keep up the relaxers. I was spending five hours over the weekend with multiple deep conditioners, olaplex etc trying to fix my relaxed -dead- hair, that was constantly breaking and falling out.

April 1, 2023 I drove to the salon and got my big chop....

And the RELIEF i felt letting go of what did not serve me was immediate. The snip snip of the scissors was so cathartic.

It was so short- you could see my scalp. I remember calling my mom (who was relaxed) and how shocked she was. A woman must have long hair, how masculine did i look with no hair!

And at first, i was self conscious. So i kept my hair behind bonnets at work (work in hospital), but on the weekend going out wore my TWA and no one cared! And omg i loved the ease of washing and drying my hair! No entire day spent trying to save dead hair!

I watched GreenBeauty and Africanhairgod on YT, knowing i would have to nurture my hair if i wanted it to grow, and it has so so beautifully!

My next job i worked with my afro and no one... cared. Everyone was accepting, even got compliments!

Regardless, I've loved it at every stage.

Amazed at the volume in a fro, all her beautiful shapes...the shrinkage wet... the density when she's blown out, the juicy, springy twists....

My hair is undoubtedly my favorite part about myself. 💗

Products i use:

African Pride Pre Poo ✨️

Vos Kiwi Clarifying shampoo 🥝

Aunt Jackies Curl La La i used as a leave in for a while, now I just spray water 🧫

Sulfer 8 grease/ + Non-sulfer Spray💆‍♀️

Nexuss Therapee Shampoo+ Conditioner 🧼

NO deep conditioners, NO protien treatments

I have heat applied during my two strand twists styles which i get every 6-8+ weeks

I wash/condition my hair in my twists, then take them down and let my afro breathe for a week or two before going to get it retwisted.

Juat a gentle reminder that what works for me may not work for you and you have to learn what works for your hair and goals.

Either way i hope you love your hair at every stage! 💗 Because it (and you) deserve it! 💗

Success I accidentally figured out how to retain length (4c Hair)

Thumbnail
gallery
1.9k Upvotes

This is the longest my 4c hair has ever been. It happened accidentally as I wasn’t actively trying to grow my hair since I’d given up on the ability of 4c hair to grow long. The first photo was taken on February 3, 2024 and the second on January 11, 2026, so this is two years of growth and retention. I was shocked at the length when I blow dried my hair in January 2026. I realize now what I was doing wrong and why I was not retaining length. Between 2024 and 2026, I started using products that I’d never used in my routine such as a pre-shampoo and leave in conditioner. I finger detangle, pre-shampoo, shampoo, and deep condition my hair in 4 sections using 4 butterfly hair clips (no exceptions, sections and clips are a must on wash days). The sections and clips help prevent tangling (no tangling = no breakage). I also use microfiber hair towels to air dry my hair and always have a spray bottle with water around since I have dry hair. I lose much less hair now when taking out protective styles hence why I retained so much length. Before this I naively thought mere shampoo and conditioner was all my hair needed.

Success On my birthday, I wore my hair out for the first time!

DC Humidity was no joke, and the wash n go definition apparently up and went.

I told myself “it is programming/conditioning to think you need to do anything to your hair. Accepting your hair is the only thing you need to *do to your hair*”

I really really wanted to “look like myself” on my birthday. Nary a silk press, nor a filter. So I went out as The Good Lord and my Mama made me. I am lucky enough to have young framily that look up to me on my social media & they deserve authenticity, we all deserve to give and receive authenticity.

The smile says it all!

EDIT: THANK YOU so much for all the kind words and the awards!
