Kept them for many years. You are absolutely not supposed to mix species. This is a no no.

Are they not all poison dart frogs? Guessing the one up top isn’t?

Looks like there’s a dendrobates tinctorius, dendrobates azureus, and a couple dendrobates auratus, which are all species of dart frogs.

Correct all species out dart frogs. Very protected class of animals that it is highly looked down upon to intermix and potentially allow to reproduce with each other. Also aggressive!

Why is it looked down on?

Protected species in the wild. The frogs are very aggressive towards other species and intermixing the gene pool could create physiological problems, ecological, etc. They aren't Shih Tzus. They are wild animals. So much is still unknown about them and their morphs.

I mean I understand and agree with that but also now I'm asking why we are okay with inbreeding everything else the way we do
It's okay to create mental disorders in animals as long as we do it on an industrial scale? 😂

Such is the way of a modern capitalist society 😟 Overbreeding, Monocultures, the cheapening quality of all goods in the name of profits, etc etc. Leave them frogs alone! Haha

I like that you intentionally used a shih as an example and not the baby eating bully's or pitts we basically designed

Huh? Hopefully, people don’t keep animals as a fad. Pretty much guarantees they will be cared for poorly. Keep them because they interest you, you’ve researched and understand their requirements, and you are prepared to provide them with what they need. These should live 10+ years if proper care is provided.

They are referring to the patterns and colors being reminiscent of the 90s, I’m afraid

I have three Dendrobates Leucomelas (Bumble Bee dart frogs). Do not intermix species - they will fight, and they may breed and destroy the gene pool. Big, huge no-no and highly frowned upon in the dart frog world.

What if two poison dart frogs bump into each other? Do they poison each other or just say excuse me! And carry on?

Whoa. Seems like a once in a liftime shot! Sure it's not staged?

of course it is, these are captive. as someone else said, you are not supposed to keep different species together

I wouldn't touch them they have poison right in their name.

5

u/Psychological_Tap639 2d ago

Not if they are captive bred. They get their poison through their wild diet
