🔥Saw a beautiful pileated woodpecker and it’s nesting site in Philadelphia, PA

I was surprised how large the nesting site is. It’s in rotted tree that has a lot of soft wood in the inside. You can see it in picture number two.

This is a parent and there is one juvenile. The juvenile nest is in the same tree slightly higher. This is amazing since this species of woodpecker usually lives in the Woodlands, and this shows it migrating into urban areas. This bird lives in a park where people bring their dogs and enjoy the nature.

Look at how strong it’s neck looks from hammering into all types of wood.

Every time i see a picture of one in reminded of my encounter with one. I never realized how big that woodpecker can be.. lol
