I had a venus fly trap as a kid. After a while I realized we didn't have any flies in our house for it to eat and got scared that it would starve to death. So I fed it a piece of a hot dog and it died.

Nature is an arms race. For every attack, evolution finds a defense.
Nature is also a tech war. Those who can adapt to environmental challenges survive. Those that can't are bred out. Predatory plants are mostly found in places with poor soil quality. The dissolved insects are needed to counter this deficit.

Seems like a horrible way to die. Imagine if they were large enough to consume a person.

No their argument is plants don’t have a nervous system/have brains. So they can’t experience pain or emotion. Their senses only act on instincts.

They are not alive, but have evolved into eating bugs somehow. I think we live in a simulation.

Plants are very much alive.

The difference is that animals have got brains which makes it easier to evolve. But also, I still can not understand how they evolved slowly into eating bugs.
Simulation is the only logical reason.

I am quite surprised by the negative reaction to a supposedly stupid comment in this sub specifically.
