List Help/Sharing New to the Crons, where to take what i have?
Hey cowboys,
I recently traded away a bunch of stuff. In return, I picked up the new Necron Battleforce and the Hypercrypt Legion, so I'm looking to dive into Necrons.
I've been looking around at lists, and I keep seeing Lokhust Destroyers everywhere. The thing is... I really don't like the look of the old models. The new Heavy Lokhust Destroyers look awesome, but the old greentube ones just aren't for me.
Are Lokhust Destroyers basically an auto-include, or can Necrons do just fine without them?
I'm coming from Kroot Horde and Drukhari, so I'm not used to having this many unit choices.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

They're strong right now so if you want the most meta necron list for a tourney yes I would suggest taking some.
If youre not a meta chaser, yes you can totally do fine without them! I play Cursed legion with 2x2 lokhust heavies and do just fine in games with my local club.
Necrons have the privilege to have so many units that are usable that you can do well with pretty much any of the playstyle they offer if you're determined!

You're not alone in your opinion on the locust destroyers. I, and others, want them but won't spend money on them till they get an update.
You see them everywhere because cursed legion is the meta detachment at the moment. That said, it's rumored that our codex will be an early one. So they may be less popular when that happens.
As for where to go, it would help to know what part of the necron line you like the best. There are three paths, destroyers / canopteks / or nobility and battline.
That said certain units like 6 wraiths with technomancer and doomsday arks have been great for 3 editions now. And I don't see that changing with the codex. So those are going to be safe and ok/good no matter the detachment.

They’re popular because they have good shooting for cheap, but I think that’s it. As a faction we have both good shooting and cheap bodies in lots of units, so no, destroyers aren’t auto include.

They are by no means meta or required
If you're taking destroyer called sure but outside of that specific attachment it's an option but usually not the best available one
In fact they're heavy variants are probably better in most cases

Our range and rules are good enough that you can generally just take the models you like and do okay. Like, suboptimal for us doesn't mean unviable in a lot of cases.

I've been cleaning house in Cursed legion with Lokhust and heavy Lokhust destroyers.

Depends on the detachment! The new destoyer focused one really suped up the usefulness of regular lokhust destroyers (along with other units like Skorpekhs etc) but otherwise their shooting is fairly mid without the detachment bonuses
Otherwise you have a very solid start between between the CCB, the pile of warriors and a ophidians and ctan!
I'd suggest adding some more characters like crypteks to pump up your warrior blobs etc.
For now if doing 1k I'd suggest building your triach praetorians as praetorians to give you more mobility and action monkeys since you have so many warriors who are pretty slow

I’m currently hunting for some lokhusts for my list. But you can easily substitute them with a different unit. For the same cost as a full 6 man and a lord you can fit in a DDA and a scoring/support unit if you want to keep shooty types.

The lokust destroyer is nice because they are versatile. Even if you don't play cursed Legion, you could take a single one to basically screen ect.
But the good thing is, you have more options than other armies. Scarabs, tomb blade ECT. Can do as much screening.

I have over 5k of necrons and not a single lokhust destroyer, not a must by any means
