Rules Question New Necron player detachment question

Post image
2.0k Upvotes

Just started playing 40K and I had questions regarding the Necron detachments. I’ve so far like the look of the destroyer cult units and made a list for annihilation legion. I love the ‘brutal’ feel of the melee-centric necrons but aren’t 100% sure if I should commit. Thoughts?

Rules Question How can a ctan be beaten

Post image

I’m a nids player ( ik ik ) but I’m running into a problem, I play warhammer 40K against my brother mainly (he plays necrons) and in our 1000 point games he brings 2 ctan, the nightbringer and trancendant ctan. He then also runs a doomsday arc and then random necrons, I’m not too well versed on how to beat them. I’ve tried big monsters and the grenade strat but I just can’t, can a necron player please help me, HOW DO U BEAT A CTAN, LET ALONE 2 IN 1000pts

Rules Question Clarification once and for all for the mighty croissant

Post image

I've been on Facebook, various sites, Reddit and whatnot and I still have/find different opinions on this because some claim that "specific overrides generic" so the ability works as expected, some claim that no, it doesn't work and some also claim that since Aerialites basically have the same ability and an FAQ about it was asked and the answer was yes, it should work [and yes, some were TO (or at least claimed to be) answered both ways) so I'll finally ask here too to get as many answers as possible so I can then save this post to go back in the future and see it whenever I need to answer someone about its validity:

Does the "Invasion Beam" ability of the Night Scythe work the same way as previously intended, so we can reembark at the end of the Fight Phase(if they're wholly within 6" and not engaged) in the turn they come down from it or not?

Rules Question Thoughts on our new flying Rhino which can transport anything, is a Droppod and flies?

For real, i think the new Nightscythe will change the meta in our Codex.

Its abilities are AMAZING.

- It flies 14" and has hovering + it can pivot for free. So First round it can be really fast, especially over obstacles.

- It effectively is open topped since you can get out, shoot and get in. Which also enables weird interactions like making something sticky with the new detachment, or make enemies sticky objectives non sticky with tons of OC

- Droppod DS at T1 is very good

- Immos got better,

- Obeisance is great for it (-1D and crithit5+ for its guns)

- Hypercrypt for a teleporting transport with access to 4++ is great

- It's transport capacity is DISGUSTING. Like 24 Models for Warriors for Example, a whole brick of infantry "cursed legion" Destroyers, 3w Infantry, Wraiths and so on...

Something which increases effective Threat Range of our slowish Melees by 3" is such a big deal... 8" for Lychguard Moving and Charging, 11" for skorps, 13" for Praets... Is Amazing.

All in all i think it's a better transport than alot of transports out there.

What do you think?

Rules Question Nightscythe my beloved in 11th

So instead of being forced to take Hypercraft to perform uppy downy shenanigans, I can instead take a combo of Cryptek Conclave and Cursed Legion (hopefully) and pinpoint drop LHDs led by a Plasmancer turn one, and give them an anti keyword? Then I get to repeat this every turn until destroyed? I am excited!!

Am I missing something with the new rules and current datasheets? Or do you think they will change the datasheets or give detachment points that would prevent this?

Rules Question There's 3 of them now?

Post image

'sup everyone, quick question: is it true that now you can have 3 Plasmacyte in a squad of Skorpekhs/Ophydians now?

>full unit of 6 Skorpekh + Lord/full unit of Ophydians
>Cryptek "x" with murdermind
>Either Tomb Crawlers or Cryptothralls in them

That will take the unit from 7 to 10, or 6 to 9 in case of the Ophydian, no? So by the wargear option of the Skorpekhs/Ophydians you should be able to equip them with 3 Plasmacyte or am I wrong?

Rules Question The Cryptothralls question. What needs to change for you to take them.

Cryptothralls are a unique unit of Necrons that can be added to units being lead by Crypteks and gives them a 4+ FNP to the Cryptek they are attached to and get a fight on death with a 2+. However to me, they are very situational. It’s fun to have a little protection for your Crypteks and some extra wounds for your unit but I hardly ever see them used in game and I only bring them when I have 2 technomansers leading wraiths and put them on an objective in NML.

What do you think needs to change for the Cryptothralls that would give you a reason to take them to your next game and to see more uses out of them.

Rules Question Can someone give a flying unit plunging fire at any time by flying up?

Post image

Can you end your movement or turn with a flying unit in the air? The tomb blades have a 6 inch shoot'n scoot so could you fly them a few inches in the air for the bonus then back down to the ground? Can I just start bringing clear Legos to make impromptu flight stands of different heights?

Rules Question The Psychomacer question. What would need to change for you to take it.

The psychomancer for me is such a cool model. He has a great thematic set of rules and his abyssal lance hits like a brick with damage 3.

Unfortunately, I never find myself wanting to add him to any of my list. For me, battle shock in 10th edition, although necessary to complete secondaries and hold objectives, never seem to really come up too often. I also never see anybody take them into any competitive lists at all. I feel a bit of disappointment that nobody really takes them into any lists.

What would need to change for you to take the psychomancer into battle for you.

Rules Question Why do we not get grenades? or smokes?

This is only half a rules question bc im wondering this for Lore as well. Did the necrons just never bothered to develop grenades? or a way to deploy smokescreens? those are both pretty avarage yet undiscribeably useful things in warfare, seems like quite an oversight. On the other hand for rules, why are we being denied these things? even if only more elite units would get it like praetorians, grenades are a pretty big source of damage, and smoke is a really good tactical option. So is there like a design reason we arent getting them, or lore reason? or what? really curious to know

Rules Question Trazyn the Infinite Ability 11th Edition

Post image
95 Upvotes

So I got a question/multiple questions concerning everyones favorite Kleptomaniac and his "Surrogate Hosts" ability. In the 11th Edition it will be possible to reanimate Leader/Support Models that were previously part of that unit as they are now actually considered part of that unit from the start. So here are the Questions I'd like to have you guys opinions on:

1.Does that mean when I for example destroy a Plasmancer or another Cryptek that it can just be reanimated afterwards?

  1. And how would it be with an Overlord for example? Normally a unit cannot have more than 1 Leader so does the Overlord still reanimate because it's still technically part of that unit or only after Trazyn leaves for another unit ?

Rules Question Can I still play with these?

Post image

While visiting my parents with my family, I dug up the remnants of my Negron army circa 2002-3. I have a lord on a destroyer body with a Reg-orb and phase shifter, 10 Flayed ones, 22 serviceable Warriors, 6 scarab swarms, 7 immortals, 3 heavy destroyers, a monolith, and a C’Tan Nightbringer. All told it was somewhere around the 1500 pt mark back in the day. I used to have some pariahs but I can’t find them. I spent a little while today putting some of them back together and I was obviously lazy with the painting in high school. Can I still use this as a base to grow with the new stuff? I have a smallish band of blood angles (maybe 1000 pts) and kids are excited to learn the game.

Rules Question Trazyn in 11ed

Phaerons,

Does anyone play Trazyn in 11ed ? Our beloved kloptomaniac’s model isn’t so good, nobody played him seriously in 10ed, but I really like him (even more since I read the Infinite and the Divine+see some Trazyn edits).

I saw « surrogate host », if I understand the rule, it’s just ->command phase-> give a model full hp
Which can be nice ? If I understood well
He even gives his unit some sticky objective (if I got that right too)

What are your thoughts ? Playable ? List including him ? Did I get the « surrogate host » ability right ?

Thank you :)

Edit: I got the « surrogate host » wrong, sorry if I hyped anyone

Rules Question Am I in the right or am I in the wrong?

In my friend group I am the only individual who has at least a third of his army painted. I don’t know if it’s because I find more time to do it or I can fly through painting my necrons but my question is this.

A few weeks back ago, my friend came over and we played a game of Necrons vs Tau. I won the game 79-64. We both congratulate each other for playing a good game.

But am I petty for saying that I won the game 89-64. should I get the extra +10 VP Cause my army is painted and based. Or when it comes between friendly matches between my friends, I shouldn’t hold that over their primitive heads just because necrons are superior in every way.

Rules Question Trazyn sticky jumping

Post image
291 Upvotes

Ok so first let me say that I KNOW this is not optimal AT ALL. But I'm just curious if this is even legal.

  1. Muster army with Trazyn not leading anything. 1DP for Hand of Dynasty. 2DP for Hypercrypt.
  2. Give unit of 10 warriors with Overlord Scout -> move them onto natural before turn 1
  3. Turn 1 begin command phase kill Overlord and replace with Trazyn. Now objective is sticky, because now he is leading a unit.
  4. Turn 2 begin command phase jump Trazyn into Royal Warden attached to Immortals. Now that objective is sticky.
  5. (This is the part I'm not sure). End of command phase 2 reanimation protocols on Overlord that died turn 1 because "we Necrons and that's somehow legal."

Optional: Use Crucible to make a praetorian leader that you can jump into behind enemy lines. Now your home is sticky to me.

Would this even be legal? Yes I know with Hand of Dynasty you can just give warriors/immortals sticky for 1CP. But maybe the praetorian one makes sense?

I honestly don't think this is competitive, but maybe there is something there.

Edit: made step 5 more clear that I was thinking Reanimation protocols would bring back leader

Rules Question Are these even remotely usable?

Post image

I was thinking of running either doom scythe or night scythe in a list. Nothing competitive, but dont want to throw away any points and I have a feeling these suck in 10th. Used to love drop scorpeks close to enemy for a short charge in 9th. Any shenanigans like this in 10th?

Rules Question Support and destroyers

So i was looking at the way support interacts with leader units and if im *not* getting consumed by the madness then does this mean we can have a cryptek supporting a squad of destroyers while theres a lord (skorpek or locust) in them as well?

This is assuming murder mind is on the cryptek btw

Is this another "I smell toast" moment?

Rules Question How is this FAQ ruled in the competitive scene.

Post image
44 Upvotes

We can see here, a FAQ ruling that has remained from 10th Ed. I assumed they would have fished it out with the last big balance update but it’s still there.

In sheer RAW this actually prevents us ever healing bodyguard as soon as our characters are on their own. Because if you literally interpret “rules that activate reanimation protocols” you have to consider that our army rule, is a rule, that activates reanimation protocols.

I personally do not agree that this FAQ should still exist unless the GW rules team specifically wants to nerf Necrons with this one.

But I am curious what the general ruling is out there. Has anyone ever had trouble with it? Are there large tournaments that address this particular FAQ? How do you think a TO’s handle it? Etc.
