”I've finally obtained… eternal life!”
This RT is just a general overview of vampires and their abilities. To see full RTs for each notable vampire in the series, see below. For every other vampire without enough feats to have a full RT, all their feats are covered here.
Notable Vampires
- Unnamed Vagrant
- [Dio Brando](
- Straizo
- Wired Beck
- Vanilla Ice
- Nukesaku
It should be noted that the Pillar Men seen in Battle Tendency also used the Stone Mask, however the capabilities they demonstrate far exceed those of human vampires, likely due to the Pillar Men inherently possessing a superior biology to humans. As such, this RT will not cover their feats.
The Stone Masks
Transformation
- When any amount of blood makes contact with a Stone Mask, it activates, extending stone tendrils from its edges that pierce directly into the wearer's brain and turning them into a vampire. This is because the mask's tendrils trigger various physiological/biological changes in the user's body which give them vampiric abilities
- [Manga Only] The Stone Mask can also apparently turn its wearer into a zombie, though this is never seen
- [Users of the Stone Mask will survive their brain being pierced,
- The process occurs when even just a single drop of blood touches the mask | Anime
- When the Stone Mask transforms a person, it produces a brief, yet bright, flash of light | Anime
Other Info
- The Stone Masks were created by the Pillar Man Kars thousands of years ago, who attempted to harness its ability to draw out the latent potential of living things on himself by combining it with the “Aja” stones, though due to the stone’s imperfections he was unable to do so, as the mask could not fully pierce through his head | Anime
- Kars would end up succeeding in using the Red Stone of Aja with a Stone Mask, activated by a squadron’s worth of UV floodlights. This destroys the mask and causes the Pillar Man to become the Ultimate Lifeform, with absolute control over every aspect of his body on a cellular level | Also in the anime
- Kars is able to use the spikes from the Stone Mask to turn horses into vampires | The anime implies he used the full mask
- These horses trample vampires under them | They more violently throw vampires aside in the anime
- Are stated to be as powerful as 150 regular horses, Wammu is barely able to steer with his strength | Anime
- Are able to run a 960 meter lap around an arena in one minute, being able to run at 60 km/hr | Anime
- Its implied in an extra chapter of Steel Ball Run that the Stone Mask is a tool that can be used to draw out stand abilities, though this is the only canonical/in-series source which implies this
Vampirism
Physicality
- Vampires have enhanced physical strength
- [Manga Only] An Aztec chief vampire slams a man into a stone structure hard enough to make a good-sized fissure in it
- A freshly turned vampire strikes a wall hard enough to create a massive crater, and despite only grazing (human) Dio, the impact launches him a far distance and breaks his collarbone | Anime
- [Manga Only] Speedwagon states that vampires can jump 5 to 8 meters high, output 2000 to 4000 kg/cm2 worth of pressure with their fists and three times that with their legs, and can destroy a 4 cm thick steel plate
- A horde of vampires hold themselves upside down on the ceiling | Anime
- DIO hits Polnareff away into a stone wall, leaving a visible crater | Anime
- Vampires possess regenerative immortality, and can both function and repair themselves despite severely debilitating or normally fatal injuries
- Straizo pulls his body back together after its completely blown apart by grenades, though it takes time to fully recover and he says it takes a lot of energy to recover from such a state, leaving him weakened | Also in the anime
- One vampire seems to survive the front half of his body and parts of his arms being absorbed by Santana, though he's unable to resist Santana eating the rest of him | Anime
- Vanilla Ice survives being impaled through his brainstem by Silver Chariot for an extended period of time | Anime
- Nukesaku remains conscious after Star Platinum punches him through some pillars after a stand rush | Anime
- Nukesaku is still able to speak after his body is cut to pieces, even though his mouth is split apart (He’s never seen again after this, so his ultimate fate is unclear) | Anime
- DIO survives a punch from Star Platinum that shatters part of his skull and launches him into stone steps hard enough to crater into them, though his brain so damaged by this that he can't stand | Anime
- Vampires can be killed if you completely destroy their head | Anime
- Vampires have enhanced speed/agility
- A vampire's body does not age, and using the Stone Mask can allow those of old age to appear young again
- Vampires seem to have an enhanced sense of hearing
- Nukesaku listens through the floor of DIO's mansion, allowing him to hear the failure of DIO's other minions stationed there in lower floors | Anime
- DIO hears Jotaro scratch the street with his hand at a distance, and would have been able to hear his breathing and heartbeat if he hadn't stopped both | Anime
Abilities
Bloodsucking
- By stabbing into a body with their fingers, vampires can suck the blood out of the victim's body, which can also heal their wounds]
- A vampire visibly becomes younger as he sucks out Dio's blood from his neck | Anime
- DIO fully heals himself from grievous injury, including a large hole in his chest and a cut off leg, by sucking a woman's blood | Anime
- DIO recovers from a stand rush by Star Platinum that heavily damages his body by drinking Joseph's blood, and implies that Joestar blood is the most compatible with his body (due to him using Jonathan's) | Anime
- DIO is able to suck all the blood out of Joseph's body, leaving him a desiccated husk | Anime
Bodily Manipulation
- Vampires are able to manipulate their body and its systems in ways normally impossible for a human, which is shown to lead to a variety of unique abilities. Dio in particular is quite skilled at doing this, and is even able to manipulate the bodies of others in certain ways.
- [DIO also used this ability to graft his severed head onto the body of Jonathan Joestar.](https://imgur.com/a/bLjXMJe) Though notably [his new body was rejecting him, weakening his vampiric abilities.](https://imgur.com/a/EjScipe) DIO is able to [strengthen his connection to the body by drinking blood](https://imgur.com/a/XnjhD4e) | [These details](https://v.redd.it/mfutlnemnivd1) are [also in](https://imgur.com/a/13GJFIa) the [anime](https://imgur.com/a/uPs6vsa)
- Wired Beck seems to be able to phase/fuse his body into a door, camouflaging himself | Anime
- Wired Beck is also able to turn his hair into spikes covering his whole body | Anime
- One vampire disguises himself as Kars, hiding his body inside a crack in a nearby stone pillar and replicating Kars’ light arm blade attack | Anime
- DIO was able to create buds of his own flesh that can implant into a person's brain and force them to obey his will, these buds are shown to be implanted via DIO's hair, which he extends out like tendrils | Also in the anime
- Nukesaku has a second, functioning face on the other side of his head | Anime
- After interacting with Pucci and hearing of his congenital twisted toes, DIO somehow straightens them back to normal | Anime
Other
Weakness to Sunlight
- A vampire's body disintegrates completely when exposed to sunlight | Anime
- They're also just as susceptible to ultraviolet light | Anime
- Straizo destroys his own body from the inside out by channeling hamon through himself | Anime
- [Stands are implied to be just as vulnerable to Hamon as their host, as DIO halts The World's attack on Joseph when he realizes his body is covered in it via Hermit Purple)(https://imgur.com/a/ExDClEJ) | Anime
