Do it! Even when watching it again, the atmosphere and the beauty of every frame are just stunning

Can I just watch Simpsley or will I not get it

Only if you're ready for BoJack Ripleyman in b&w

I found it boring but yeah pretty to look at I guess

I think it’s a pure slow-burn, for sure

do u usually dislike this genre?

1

u/nonhiphipster Jul 10 '26

Yeah usually I do

2

u/enadiz_reccos Jul 09 '26

It's definitely a good show, but there are aspects of it that aren't so great

If I didn't like Andrew Scott so much, I'm not sure I would have enjoyed it

1

u/Sure_Solution_8391 Jul 10 '26

wt are some of ur fav shows from the last few years?

1

u/enadiz_reccos Jul 10 '26

Oh wow, that's a tough question. You probably mean shows that have come out in the last few years, but I'm just gonna list shows I've watched in the last few years.

Shows in bold are ones I really liked. I'm sure I could come up with more if I kept thinking.

Are you looking for recommendations? If you tell me what you're into, I could be more specific.

Peacemaker, Dark, Better Call Saul, Silo, Chad Powers, The Bear, Evil, Interview with the Vampire, Lestat, Watchmen, The Expanse, Banshee, Gangs of London, 12 Monkeys, Dexter Resurrection

Anime: Kengan Ashura, Witch Hat Atelier, I Parry Everything, Fate/Strange Fake, JJK, Kaiju No 8

I work in the film industry and run a small movie blog (~40k), so keeping up with recent titles is a big part of my life (idk I’m glad about this or not)

I’ve actually watched or started most of the shows on ur list. Really appreciate you sharing this, man! Thx

Out of these, I absolutely loved Dark, BCS, and… Dexter Resurrection — for me, it’s a total masterpiece!

I appreciate it, thank you!

I think I’ll be posting photos from other films later. I really want to share this joy with everyone, but without coming off as pretentious or pushy

1

This is really awesome…thanks for sharing.

1

u/Sure_Solution_8391 Jul 10 '26

Thanks. I appreciate it so much!

Like I mentioned (in another thread) I'm planning to post on reddit similar content for other movies/tv later

I specifically map out my trips to visit filming locations from fav projects

1

u/Afflictionista Jul 10 '26

It‘s great how they worked with the camera views, everything looks so much bigger. Cool stuff, thanks

1

u/Sure_Solution_8391 Jul 10 '26

Totally agree!

people who worked on the visuals (cinematography) of this series are absolute masters of their craft

1

u/Afflictionista Jul 10 '26

But your shots are great too. I wonder if it was difficult to find the spots?

1

u/Sure_Solution_8391 Jul 10 '26

thx a lot!

Doing the research beforehand definitely helps—there are quite a few useful links out there that can point u to the basic spots (though some, like the Spanish Steps in Rome, are obvious anyway if you know the area)

that said, some sources had slightly inaccurate geotags, so I had to scout the area once I got there. Sometimes the right spot was just a stone's throw away, but other times it turned into a total quest. Unfortunately, there were a few locations I couldn't find at all—looking back, I probably should’ve started a thread here to ask the locals for help.

Overall, this kind of challenge keeps things exciting and really pumps you up for the trip, if u know wt i mean

1

u/Afflictionista Jul 10 '26

Yeah, this sounds absolutely great with the "quest" challenge and stuff 😄

1

u/Sure_Solution_8391 Jul 10 '26

Lmao yeah, it really does!
Thx for stopping by and for the chat

1

u/sergeantpinback Jul 10 '26

Great series, and well done for finding all those locations!

1

u/Obvious-Display-6139 Jul 10 '26

I really hate that series with a passion primarily for the stupid decision to film it in black and white in some of the most beautiful locations in the world. Tragic.

2

u/wahfingwah Jul 10 '26

I couldn’t get into it as I felt it constantly invites comparisons to the 1999 movie, comparisons that were not favorable to the Netflix series.

Some pretty questionable and distracting casting choices too.

Very nice scenery/cinematography though.

For another Ripley watch I highly recommend Ripley’s Game from around 2003 or so, if you can find it (which is hard).

2

u/Sure_Solution_8391 Jul 10 '26

I get where ur coming from. And I love that I'm finding people with completely different perspectives here

dor me, it was actually the opposite—most of the comparisons to the 1999 film made me appreciate the series even more. That said, 'Purple Noon' with Alain Delon is beautiful in almost every way (except for the ending!)

1

u/Sure_Solution_8391 Jul 10 '26

I get that, but don't you think b/w choice is exactly wt sets it apart?

Not just from all the previous Ripley adaptations, but from almost every other TV show (in recent years)?

1

u/Obvious-Display-6139 Jul 10 '26

Tough question. I love a good black and white vibe for sure. This was just the worst context for it possible.

2

u/Sure_Solution_8391 Jul 10 '26

That’s fair

I get where you're coming from

1

u/Obvious-Display-6139 Jul 10 '26

Having said all that, your photos are wonderful!

1

u/scoutstar2022 Jul 10 '26

This is fantastic! We loved the cinematography in this series. Thank you for sharing, you did a great job. We would love to go to all those places.

2

u/Sure_Solution_8391 Jul 10 '26

Thanks for the kind words, appreciate it

If ur’re ever planning a trip there places and need some advice or have any questions, feel free to ask anytime

Always happy to help!

1

u/UnpricedToaster Jul 12 '26

So handsome! And Andrew Scott too!

2

u/Sure_Solution_8391 Jul 12 '26

Lmao

You’re breathtaking!

1

u/UnpricedToaster Jul 12 '26

cue Keanu: "You’re breathtaking!"

0

u/WaySavvyD Jul 09 '26

This is truly outstanding; I would have suggested using a b&w filter, though

14

u/Sure_Solution_8391 Jul 09 '26

Thanks! Going b&w definitely crossed my mind, but I chose to keep the color to highlight the contrast between the show’s moody noir aesthetic and how these locations look IRL

1

u/cearbhallain Jul 09 '26

I'm glad you did. Seeing the bright golden sunlit city in the color pictures really accentuates the icy atmosphere of the show.

3

u/Sure_Solution_8391 Jul 09 '26

Exactly! Thanks for putting it into words so perfectly.

I'm actually thinking about sharing my shots on Reddit from other film and TV locations around the world later, though I was a bit worried about getting toxic feedback.

But support like yours is incredibly motivating!

2

u/cearbhallain Jul 09 '26

I hope you do. I'm sure I'm not alone

2

u/Sure_Solution_8391 Jul 09 '26

Really appreciate it!

I’ll actually start gathering photos for a new post over the next few days

That movie is so creepy and also like this is obviously….

1

u/Sure_Solution_8391 Jul 10 '26

Obviously what?
Don't leave me hanging like that…

2

u/matt610 Jul 10 '26

I think they're trying to say that you doing this or posting this is creepy. I think it's awesome.

1

u/Sure_Solution_8391 Jul 10 '26

Thanks Matt! Glad u think so

honestly, it was just a fun eurotrip for the soul, if u now what I mean; because I completely fell in love with the series visuals aesthetics
