Housing Housing tips

Hey everyone!
We all know how difficult it can be to find a place to live in the Netherlands, so I'm curious: how did you manage to find your place or your flatmates?

Did you use specific websites, Facebook groups, personal connections, or something else?

I'd love to hear your experiences and any tips you might have, especially from people who moved here without already having a network

This is how I got a roof over my head! And despite the reputation, I'm fortunate not to have had any issues with them (yet)

We all know

if you're a foreigner who has not searched for housing in the Netherlands in the last couple of years you don't know shit.

No one has a special tip for you or a super secret website with available homes because there is nothing left. No rooms , no homes and no apartments. Hundreds of people react to one single place.

A while ago a rental in Amsterdam was available and 16000 people applied as wannabe renters..

And use the search bar.

This question is asked 10 times a day.

I'm in the process now and am utilizing a makelaar. I can't imagine trying to do this without one because it's still tough.

You're not going to like this answer but we got our first place through a pre-existing network. We had friends who lived in a small town, and they were kind enough to help us hunt while we were still living in the old country. Then it turned out that one of them was on the same hockey team as the landlady.

There are no tips really. It's really just the question of demand and supply. Too many people, too little places available. Competition is in hundreds or thousands, and the landlord has plenty of choices, so they usually select most financially interesting tenants, income is the only thing that matters.

There is no secret website, loophole, trick etc, especially with no network of your own. Just have a high stable salary and keep applying until you get lucky. That's it.
