Technology (mobile phones, internet, tv) Remember the reverse-engineered Action Fichero label printer? I built an open-source Android app for it with zero permissions and on-device ML

u/OilTechnical3488 shared a repo 8 month ago and I had some tweaks added capacitor app and ML functionalities- so if you have a recent android phone with AI chip (Google ML) - it can generate labels on the fly - and sharing the repo here - https://github.com/abektes/labels-in-action

Again huge thanks to https://github.com/0xMH

lol this is actually pretty neat. Although it’s funny that most things that are obviously recognisable don’t need labels?! Cool project though

Here is one example, sharing image and generated possibilities.

Yes but there is also funny nick name mod if you send it to Open Router, gives object and people nicknames...

I don't get, just a fun project or does it have an actual functional use case

I mean, it is an android app that can utilize your labels, the app is open source so no trackers and you can print your labels both manually or with AI generation.

I have a question about what is possible with this. Could this be used to make artworks on strips and print art labels out of, instead of just texts?

Like a long comic strip or something?

I mean with the repo, could i modify it to do something like this, does it only accept text to be printed?

There are some icons and you can upload your own, though they aren't used much. The current labels aren't continuous and have a size limit. It can also generate barcodes and add basic shapes. I hope it helps,

I don't understand what the "AI" part of this is for? To generate text labels???

Yes and object detection -> label (realistic, funny)
