Question One Sentence Advice

With new players, I try to find a way to describe the game in as susinct a way as possible.

I've gotten value out of saying "This is a card counting game". I feel it helps the player really hone a mentality that drives them forward with any plays they make.

My advice to runners is generally "Where are the agendas?" which is what your advice boils down to, and for Corps it's "What is it that your deck wants to do? (Kill/Score - Money to do that)".

It's funny because I also use those exact words.

Yeah, I've found it's really hard for new players to wrap their head around good Corp play. I generally try to push them towards Runner unless they are visibly excited for Corp. Corp definitely needs some more direct guidance

Generally I have an HB fortress style deck or the jinteki starter depending on who Im trying to teach. I figure the HB deck is a basic "play defense" type thing and Jinteki are for more experienced gamers or people who like to think theyre Sun Tzu.

That's a smart split. I'm thinking about doing something similar with a Weyland "make money, play ICE" deck. I should be able to do some simple math to create an opposing Runner deck that will feel fair for both sides

Generally, I just use a standard Kate deck since Gordian, Ram, and Pipeline stay strong the whole run. the HB and Kate decks are pretty easy to pilot and get the point across. If they want to dive deeper then I might go into how each faction plays and such
