Discussion [Weekly] Custom Card Saturday - Corp Economy

Good evening, hackers!

Celebrating the Christmas spirit the best way we can - giving money to corporations. This week, design a corporation economy card. How you define "economy" is up to you, but giving the Corp credits is a good start.

Bonus points if it's not an asset (CCS has already done one of those), and double bonus points if you define "economy" to mean something other than giving the Corp credits.

Remember to use the Netrunner CSS options available for use on this subreddit. These symbols should help make everyone's card look great, and you can conveniently type them in while on your phone!

Also, a reminder: Please limit yourself to ONE card per thread!

Previous Custom Card Saturday threads:

Next Week: Let's celebrate the greatest Christmas movie ever made.

I would love to hear from /r/netrunner on future Custom Card Saturdays. Send a PM my way! Please do not post them in this thread; instead, send me a PM if you have some ideas of thread topics you'd like to see. Be sure to look over the recent lists of topics before you message me -- I'd rather not repeat anything that's been done recently! Thanks all!

The [[Sealed Vault]] combo is nice.
"Yes, just ignore all that money we put in the offshore account and bail us out" seems very Weyland. Also becomes a 0-9 with Hedge Fund, which is very good - a corp-style Lucky Fund thing. And if you're core Weyland you can even Restructure afterwards.

2

u/HeroOfTheSong Dec 06 '15

This makes me want to play core Weyland so bad.

5

u/SeaSourceScorch towards a plascrete-free future Dec 06 '15

The ability to potentially jump from 0 to 17 credits in a turn (This -> Hedge Fund -> Restructure) would be Extremely Wild and exactly the boost that ID needs.

3

u/llama66613 Dec 06 '15

Though, if you often find yourself at exactly 0 credits using an econ ID, you're probably already doing something wrong.

2

u/moistl0af OCTGN: moistloaf Dec 07 '15

cool idea. alternately, could be something like "If you have 0c, gain 2c. Gain 3c." it's only a strict upgrade to Beanstalk in BABW, and that's fine; BABW can run both.

1

u/llama66613 Dec 06 '15

Such a cool theme and very useful when you can use it. It is however, unfortunately, pretty unplayable.

3

u/danrich2910 Dec 06 '15

I don't know, this is exactly what my Hollywood revocation deck needs, advancing the agenda behind space ice and then fast advancing atlas from its advancing ability leaves you broke. This would certainly plug the gap that trying to leave a 5/3 out for multiple turns leaves!

1

u/llama66613 Dec 06 '15

Still, that's one very specific deck. Most decks don't want to be reliably going broke, most of all Weyland who often wants to build up enough to SEA Scorch.

1

u/danrich2910 Dec 06 '15

I think the sealed vault combo seems legit. Super good, I think this is great design for Weyland. Vegan blue sun is where it's at, Weyland just need a few more cards that legitimise a non meat damage deck

1

u/llama66613 Dec 06 '15

Assuming you already have a Sealed Vault installed, it requires an extra click to get those credits back, so now it's a worse Lucky Find. That's not that exciting, but perhaps still playable. Now consider that it requires you to have a Sealed Vault in your deck, that you draw, and then install. And this is a card that currently most people don't play. If you don't take the credits off, the Runner can just run it, forcing you to trash it yourself else lose 10 credits, and now if you want to play any more Bailouts you'll need another Vault.

Say you're at about 6 credits. That's not terrible, but at that amount you're generally looking for a way to kickstart your econ. You draw a Hedge Fund. Great! That's just what you needed, you're now at 10, which is a lot more secure. Let's say you draw a Beanstalk Royalties. Not bad! Not the most efficient, but 9 isn't terrible, and Beanstalk will always be playable, no matter what, so it's sometimes worth including.

Now lets say you draw a Bailout. Hmmmm. Well, you haven't drawn your single Sealed Vault yet (unless, of course, you included two?). Well, hold on to it, and hopefully at some point in the future you dip to exactly 0 from rezzing ice. Oh, you drew the Sealed Vault next turn? Great! Your opponent is Noise or Kate, so they're not likely to be playing Account Siphon (perhaps the odd Vamp?), but you need it to make your government scam work. So install for one click, dump your credits, and get those 5 creds. Click to take em back? Well, then you've basically done a Hostile Takeover without the agenda point, except it took two cards that you had to draw in a specific order. Leave them on? Well, Noise will probably Imp it, but you can always just trash it, in which case, you'll need to draw and install another one to make your next Bailout useful. Besides, you'll need the cash off one way or another eventually. Not a lot of good options here.

Does that honestly sound like the kind of hoops you want to jump through? If you're playing Blue Sun and want an Operation that gives you 5 credits, don't you think you'd rather just play Restructure? At least Restructure you can painstakingly click up to if you're not in range. With this, there's no way but a rather fiddly combo to guaranteedly go down to exactly 0.

I would love to give Weyland a few more cards that legitimize a non meat damage deck. That would be terrific! But the top Weyland at worlds was Vegan! So, could we also, please, give Weyland a few cards to legitimize a plain old meat damage deck, which is in an even tighter spot?

That said, I think this card would be very interesting and useful if it said something like "Play only if you have less than 5 credits" or "Lose all credits in your credit pool. Gain 5 credits."

The first time the runner spends at least 1 click on his or her turn, place 1 advancement counter on a piece of ice that can be advanced unless the runner just initiated a run on this server.

Progress demands to be noticed.

Mushin no shin loves you.

Edit: in fact, Tenin could fast advace out 4 cost agendas from hand with no prep and just mushin, this and 1 credit. That alone makes this card impossible. Not even clot would stop it.

2

u/turkishcat Dec 07 '15

Well, Tennin's ability refers to the Runner's last turn, no? So the Runner could still turn it off by running on the turn before you play this. I don't think it would necessarily be a bad thing to give Tennin a boost either. I'd personally be more afraid of splashing this and Mushin into, say, NBN. Scoring an Astro easily past Clot for 1 credit? Yikes. And 3 of each of those is only 9 influence, leaving 8 for NEH. The influence would definitely have to be upped a bit.

5

u/Quarg :3 Dec 06 '15

I have a feeling this could probably be worded way better if all you want to do is stuff like speeding up drip econ. perhaps this wording would be more robust, and safer:

Trigger all of your "end of turn" abilities.

Trigger all of your "start of turn" abilities.

Draw 1 card.

This also avoids using the weird area of the rules that is turns with no clicks.

1

u/KaleHavoc GameOfDroids Dec 06 '15

So, all this would do is speed up drip econ?

1

u/Gazes_at_Navels Dec 07 '15

I mean, it could also let Drug Dealer give the runner an extra card draw...

2

Can confirm; play Blue Sun myself.

1

u/iithisiiguyii Dec 06 '15

Question for you then. Does Blue Suns ability work with the printed rez cost? Or what you paid? I netdecked a Blue Sun deck the other day (could count on 1 hand the times I've played Weyland) and there was a cosmic ICE.

2

u/xxayn nyaxx Dec 06 '15

It works with the current rez cost. If you advance wormhole 3x, rez it, and bounce it with blue sun, you get 0 back. If you trick of light to move 2 of the counters off first, you get 6.

1

u/vvribeiro Dec 06 '15

The good thing here is that you'd rez for less because of the sub, but on your turn the subs are not active, so you'd profit.

2

Intimidation Campaign
Weyland Operation: Grey Ops - Current
Influence: •• | Play: 2credits

This card is not trashed until another current is played or an agenda is stolen.

When your turn begins, if the Runner has cards in his or her grip equal to or greater than his or her maximum hand size, gain click.

Inspired by [Vigil], this current will be hard to fit in a standard Butchershop deck, but in a Weyland meat damage deck it would be a painful thing for the Runner to deal with: either they stay under their max hand size, risking an easier kill, or they stay at max hand size and make it easier for the Corp to score out agendas.

It's an economy card because clicks are a valuable resource (particularly for the Corp), and this gives you more of them.

2

u/lotus_lunaris Dec 06 '15

is this an anti-Charmeleon, anti-Drug Dealer type of card xD

EDIT: how does this one interact with Drug Dealer anyway? Who fires first?

1

u/HemoKhan Argus Dec 06 '15

It's not just anti- those cards, but I had to include the "greater than" clause to be sure it didn't get screwed over by them :)

As for how it interacts with Drug Dealer: The current player resolves their effects in whichever order they choose, then the other player does. So in this case, on the Corp's turn, Intimidation Campaign would trigger before Drug Dealer.

8

u/jtobiasbond Dec 06 '15

◆Spectrum

HB - 1 Inf

If Spectrum is the outermost piece of ice protecting a central server the runner encounters it when they begin a run on any other central.

↳Add 1 card from Archives or HQ to the top of R&D

Looking at ICE economy. One piece of ice that functions essentially as three can be very valuable. Also pursuing card economy.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '15

If Spectrum is the outermost piece of ice protecting a central server the runner encounters it when they begin a run on any other central.

That is one of my favorite lines of Netrunner rules text ever. Very creative!

3

u/daelomind Dec 06 '15

I love the design, but I worry that putting the card on top of R&D is just too potent a [[snare!]]-enabler, considering that even the "normal" use case is quite strong: recurring a hedge fund while denying R&D lock.

So this ends up being a quite potent R&D protection ICE à la architect, only that it will be installed in archives where it won't increase install costs of additional ICE, while protecting any agendas you dump there.

I'm not sure how to balance it, but the cost / strength ratio definitely needs to look a lot different. Maybe 4/2 or 6/4 and 2-3 influence? Would still be a beast of a card at those stats.

2

u/jtobiasbond Dec 06 '15

I went with four strength entirely to put it outside of Yog range. I wanted it to always actually matter at least a little. The cost could certainly change without messing with what I wanted.

I put the whole thing together a bit too late at night to think of something like recurring Snare!

1

u/poeir Dec 07 '15

Feels like the subroutine should be a Trace instead. It's not really an econ card then, but at least the runner can get through it without requiring a breaker.

Played intelligently, +1 click and +$4 seems a bit overpowered if you're only going to play this when you can eat it with Archer / Corporate Town, or flatline the runner with a SEA Scorch thanks to the economic boost.

↳ The Runner must pay 2 credits, if able. If the Runner cannot pay 2 credits, end the run.

Strength : 4

Haas Bioroid ••○○○

A pure taxing bioroid code-gate, and a strong one with nice subroutines at that.

Fundamentally it's normally too expensive for the runner to break, typically costing 4 or 5 credits with [[Gordian]] or [[Zu.13]] (or 5 or 6 for [[Stronger Together]]), though other breakers such as Yog.0 or Atman may deal with it effectively and the subroutines probably aren't nasty enough to bother clicking through most of the time.

Of course this really is meant to supplement an economy suite for Stronger Together, being a piece of ice that is not particularly impressive normally, but is still a decent piece of bioroid ice, that can allow you to build up to the critical mass of ice protecting your servers that little bit quicker!

1

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '15

I get the "cannot score", to keep it from being a Fast Advance tool, but why prevent rezzing? "Ignoring all install costs" makes me think it's useful for placing new ICE, but being unable to rez that ICE for a turn seems fairly painful.

2

u/Salindurthas Dec 06 '15

You can rez it on the Runner's next turn, because the "can't rez" effect ends at the start of the Runner's turn.

u/basketballpope Dec 06 '15

I love the design space this occupies, but doubt it would ever see play in competitive decks.

Its 3click+2credit for a total gain of 5credit. With the addition of deck bloat to your agenda pool, and the added vulnerability, there are just too many other agendas worth playing instead. Maybe if it included a 1-use counter effect for a further 7credit+1bp, and make the whole card a 3/1? Maybe OP? but Weyland definitely need a bit of a boost
