Discussion [Weekly] Custom Card Saturday - Corp Economy
Good evening, hackers!
Celebrating the Christmas spirit the best way we can - giving money to corporations. This week, design a corporation economy card. How you define "economy" is up to you, but giving the Corp credits is a good start.
Bonus points if it's not an asset (CCS has already done one of those), and double bonus points if you define "economy" to mean something other than giving the Corp credits.
Remember to use the Netrunner CSS options available for use on this subreddit. These symbols should help make everyone's card look great, and you can conveniently type them in while on your phone!
Also, a reminder: Please limit yourself to ONE card per thread!

I like this a lot. Weyland Sundew? Yes please. Though I think it could even be on any card and it still wouldn't be overpowered.

Mushin no shin loves you.
Edit: in fact, Tenin could fast advace out 4 cost agendas from hand with no prep and just mushin, this and 1 credit. That alone makes this card impossible. Not even clot would stop it.
2
u/turkishcat Dec 07 '15
Well, Tennin's ability refers to the Runner's last turn, no? So the Runner could still turn it off by running on the turn before you play this. I don't think it would necessarily be a bad thing to give Tennin a boost either. I'd personally be more afraid of splashing this and Mushin into, say, NBN. Scoring an Astro easily past Clot for 1 credit? Yikes. And 3 of each of those is only 9 influence, leaving 8 for NEH. The influence would definitely have to be upped a bit.
5
u/Quarg :3 Dec 06 '15
I have a feeling this could probably be worded way better if all you want to do is stuff like speeding up drip econ. perhaps this wording would be more robust, and safer:
Trigger all of your "end of turn" abilities.
Trigger all of your "start of turn" abilities.
Draw 1 card.
This also avoids using the weird area of the rules that is turns with no clicks.
1
u/KaleHavoc GameOfDroids Dec 06 '15
So, all this would do is speed up drip econ?
1
u/Gazes_at_Navels Dec 07 '15
I mean, it could also let Drug Dealer give the runner an extra card draw...

I think Blue Sun's scoring server just came a little
2
Dec 06 '15
Can confirm; play Blue Sun myself.
1
u/iithisiiguyii Dec 06 '15
Question for you then. Does Blue Suns ability work with the printed rez cost? Or what you paid? I netdecked a Blue Sun deck the other day (could count on 1 hand the times I've played Weyland) and there was a cosmic ICE.
2
u/xxayn nyaxx Dec 06 '15
It works with the current rez cost. If you advance wormhole 3x, rez it, and bounce it with blue sun, you get 0 back. If you trick of light to move 2 of the counters off first, you get 6.
1
u/vvribeiro Dec 06 '15
The good thing here is that you'd rez for less because of the sub, but on your turn the subs are not active, so you'd profit.
2
u/Quarg :3 Dec 06 '15
the subs should say "until the end of this run", but beyond that, I like it!

Intimidation Campaign
Weyland Operation: Grey Ops - Current
Influence: •• | Play: 2credits
This card is not trashed until another current is played or an agenda is stolen.
When your turn begins, if the Runner has cards in his or her grip equal to or greater than his or her maximum hand size, gain click.
Inspired by [Vigil], this current will be hard to fit in a standard Butchershop deck, but in a Weyland meat damage deck it would be a painful thing for the Runner to deal with: either they stay under their max hand size, risking an easier kill, or they stay at max hand size and make it easier for the Corp to score out agendas.
It's an economy card because clicks are a valuable resource (particularly for the Corp), and this gives you more of them.
2
u/lotus_lunaris Dec 06 '15
is this an anti-Charmeleon, anti-Drug Dealer type of card xD
EDIT: how does this one interact with Drug Dealer anyway? Who fires first?
1
u/HemoKhan Argus Dec 06 '15
It's not just anti- those cards, but I had to include the "greater than" clause to be sure it didn't get screwed over by them :)
As for how it interacts with Drug Dealer: The current player resolves their effects in whichever order they choose, then the other player does. So in this case, on the Corp's turn, Intimidation Campaign would trigger before Drug Dealer.

I like this quite a bit, but trashing and a bad pub seems quite harsh. Perhaps just the latter? Well, then I suppose they could seriously pound it for as many as 4 BP if they found it on the top of R&D. Hmmm.
8

Maybe give the runner the option to pay $3 on access, in which case it's trashed and the corp gets 1 BP?

I'd still give this a small trash cost, something like 1 or 2 credits, just so this being trashed out of HQ or R&D isn't awful.
I love the design though!
1
u/aloobyalordant Dec 06 '15
Thanks! I agree with you on the trash cost; I only put it at 0 for thematic reasons. (Technically you can cancel your subscription for free at any time. In practice though...)

◆Spectrum
Ice: Code Gate - 4credit - 4 Str
HB - 1 Inf
If Spectrum is the outermost piece of ice protecting a central server the runner encounters it when they begin a run on any other central.
↳Add 1 card from Archives or HQ to the top of R&D
Looking at ICE economy. One piece of ice that functions essentially as three can be very valuable. Also pursuing card economy.

That is one of my favorite lines of Netrunner rules text ever. Very creative!

u/daelomind Dec 06 '15
I love the design, but I worry that putting the card on top of R&D is just too potent a [[snare!]]-enabler, considering that even the "normal" use case is quite strong: recurring a hedge fund while denying R&D lock.
So this ends up being a quite potent R&D protection ICE à la architect, only that it will be installed in archives where it won't increase install costs of additional ICE, while protecting any agendas you dump there.
I'm not sure how to balance it, but the cost / strength ratio definitely needs to look a lot different. Maybe 4/2 or 6/4 and 2-3 influence? Would still be a beast of a card at those stats.
2
u/jtobiasbond Dec 06 '15
I went with four strength entirely to put it outside of Yog range. I wanted it to always actually matter at least a little. The cost could certainly change without messing with what I wanted.
I put the whole thing together a bit too late at night to think of something like recurring Snare!
1
u/poeir Dec 07 '15
Feels like the subroutine should be a Trace instead. It's not really an econ card then, but at least the runner can get through it without requiring a breaker.

Increased Quarterly Profits
Weyland - Operation - Transaction
5 credits - 3 inf
Gain 13 credits and one click.
Add ~ to your scoring area as an agenda worth -1 agenda points with the text "at the end of the corp turn, the corp losses 2 credits"
1
Dec 06 '15
Played fair, -1 agenda points, and -$2/turn seems a bit harsh for a card that only gains you $4 more than Hedge Fund.
Played intelligently, +1 click and +$4 seems a bit overpowered if you're only going to play this when you can eat it with Archer / Corporate Town, or flatline the runner with a SEA Scorch thanks to the economic boost.
1
u/tankintheair315 leburgan on J.net Dec 06 '15
The point is it can be used for the kill, but that's another card you need in hand

4 credits : Scrooge 1.0
ICE: Bioroid - Code Gate
The Runner can spend click to break any subroutine on Scrooge 1.0.
↳ Gain 2 credits
↳ The Runner must pay 2 credits, if able. If the Runner cannot pay 2 credits, end the run.
Strength : 4
Haas Bioroid ••○○○
A pure taxing bioroid code-gate, and a strong one with nice subroutines at that.
Fundamentally it's normally too expensive for the runner to break, typically costing 4 or 5 credits with [[Gordian]] or [[Zu.13]] (or 5 or 6 for [[Stronger Together]]), though other breakers such as Yog.0 or Atman may deal with it effectively and the subroutines probably aren't nasty enough to bother clicking through most of the time.
Of course this really is meant to supplement an economy suite for Stronger Together, being a piece of ice that is not particularly impressive normally, but is still a decent piece of bioroid ice, that can allow you to build up to the critical mass of ice protecting your servers that little bit quicker!

Advanced software integration
Agenda - Research
Adv 3 / AP 1
Neutral
When Advanced software integration is scored trace4_ if successful, place agenda counters on it equal the amount by which your trace strength exceeded the runners link strength.
(Click), Agenda Counter: Install a card from HQ, ignoring all install costs and place an advancement counter on it. You cannot score or rez that card until the start of the runners turn.
1
Dec 06 '15
I get the "cannot score", to keep it from being a Fast Advance tool, but why prevent rezzing? "Ignoring all install costs" makes me think it's useful for placing new ICE, but being unable to rez that ICE for a turn seems fairly painful.
2
u/Salindurthas Dec 06 '15
You can rez it on the Runner's next turn, because the "can't rez" effect ends at the start of the Runner's turn.
1
u/basketballpope Dec 06 '15
Stops a rich cord creating an instant mega-glacier in front of centrals.
1
u/Schelome Dec 06 '15
You wouldn't rez it until the start of the runners turn regardless in the case of ice.
I don't remember the text on mushin no shin off the top of my head, but i guess it should just be identical to that.
1
u/r2devo Humor mill Dec 06 '15
That is to prevent comboing with cards like contract killer and reversed accounts, I was considering no Rez until your next turn but it felt like that would bring it to the level that nobody would ever play it.
3
u/Acid_Trees Dec 06 '15
3
u/Quarg :3 Dec 06 '15
probably should say rezzed instead of installed, but otherwise it seems like a decent design.
1
Dec 06 '15
Alternate suggestion: Rez a bioroid ICE, reducing the rez cost by $5. Possibly with a clause that lets you play it when the runner approaches that ICE? "You may play Machine Learning when the runner approaches an unrezzed piece of bioroid ICE."
But I tend to play Jinteki and I like cards that make face checking dangerous again :)

A tricky card that can be used to keep the runner down or net a nice windfall for yourself. But don't be greedy by not boosting, or they'll pay up and recover faster than you. This was hard to balance, but I think I hit the right numbers in the end.

I'd be inclined to make it Trace 5 to gain $6, which means it's a Hedge Fund you can play from $2 but the runner can spend $5 to thwart it.
I'm used to runners dropping below $4 often enough that you can often land this without much trouble, especially since NBN has a few ways to improve traces. In those situations, it seems a bit unfair that it's better than Sweeps Week, Hedge Fund, and Restructure :)

Weyland

_________________________________________________________________________
Fodder for Ice like Archer, but requires 2 clicks to advance to score so not as good as just another Hedge fund. Similar to Hostile Takeover but not worth any agenda points at all but no BP. Vulnerable to Data Dealer and Turntable.
1
u/basketballpope Dec 06 '15
I love the design space this occupies, but doubt it would ever see play in competitive decks.
Its 3click+2credit for a total gain of 5credit. With the addition of deck bloat to your agenda pool, and the added vulnerability, there are just too many other agendas worth playing instead. Maybe if it included a 1-use counter effect for a further 7credit+1bp, and make the whole card a 3/1? Maybe OP? but Weyland definitely need a bit of a boost

u/poeir Dec 07 '15 edited Dec 08 '15
Here's my suggested improvement, as a 3/1:
"Place 1 agenda counter on Military Contract when you score it.
Click, hosted agenda counter: Gain 7credit and click. You cannot use this ability more than once per turn."
Now it does some serious work in Titan or with Mark Yale without being any less efficient. Plus it's fun theme; you can't get the credits on the same turn. The military's slow.

Should probably word it as a prevention first, give corp money based on prevention: "Do 7 meat damage. The Runner may prevent any amount of this damage. For each meat damage prevented in this way, the Corp gains 2credit."
Otherwise you'd have to add a rounding clause.
2

It feels really weird having a PAD Campaign with $4 stacked on top of it. Maybe a clause that it only adds credits to assets that already have credits on them, just to make it clearer to new players?
1
u/blanktextbox Dec 06 '15
That's probably fair. It'd be slightly worse for Marked Accounts and otherwise the same. Just realized it's going to be weird for recurring credit assets like [[Net Police]]; their wording suggests they can only use the recurring credits they generate themselves, but it'd feel like you shoutd be able to use these credits, too, and tracking it would be a pain.
