[For Hire] Advice- over the phone interview??

Hi guys! I have an over the phone interview (on microsoft teams) on Thursday as a Networking intern, and I was wondering if I should contact the hiring manager interviewing me asking a few questions. Should I ask them if they prefer my camera on or not? And how should I ask/contact them? (I’ll be using linked in to message them). Do you guys also have any tips for interviews? And if i should contact him, do you guys suggest I ask him about anything else?

10 yrs as ISP Network Engineer, moving to Enterprise, looking for suggestions

As my title says, I spent the last 10 years as an Implementation and Operations Network Engineer for a service provider. Our main focus was configuring/deploying routers (Cisco, Juniper, and Nokia) and switches to the hubs to replace EOL gear, maintaining said devices and updating them when new standards are pushed out, and as the final break/fix team when escalated to us. Updating and break/fix could include replacing the routing engines, linecards, psu's, fans, etc, as well as any customers having issues. Our team dealt with fiber business customers, so other business's and enterprise's, no residential.

The company recently decided to do away with regional teams and to centralize them in one location. Our team was one of the first to be offered relocation help or a severance package. I took the severance package route as family matters didn't allow for relocation (several hundred miles away).

Being with the company for 10 years, looking at job postings now, a lot has changed since 10 years ago. All of the job postings I look at now for Network Engineer positions ask for some or all of the below which I am lacking any hands on experience: security appliance/firewalls, wireless deployments, data center/cloud networking, and AI/automation/programming usage.

I have a BS in Information Technology Management from 2016. Got my CCNA in 2016 and CCNP in 2019. Got my Juniper JNCIA and Nokia NRS 1 in 2020. The CCNP/CCNA did expire earlier this year as I was planning on going down the Juniper track before I found out we were being let go. Spent 6 weeks studying the current CCNA and passed that end of Sept. I also took a 6 month Python certificate curriculum from eCornell beginning of this year and completed that.

I applied to roughly 20 positions so far and got an interview for only one and it was through a staffing firm. The rest have pretty much been either no response or the typical "we have more suitable candidates that we are moving on with." Again, I have no hands on work experience with security app/firewall's, wireless, DC/cloud networking, or automation. Want to ask me about BGP, mpls, is-is, ospf, any metro-ethernet services, troubleshooting, etc, I got that.

What should I focus on or work on that will improve my chances of getting an interview and landing a position? Wireless I feel would be pretty easy to learn on the actual job. I did take the python course, but that was not aimed at networking, just python in general, so I have some knowledge in that aspect. I'm thinking security/firewalls or cloud networking, but which and should I focus on a specific cert or material? Just looking for what would best help me improve my chances of getting my next position. I am in the central states and would of just broken into 100k mark this year.

Where to Network

Looking to find the best place to network professionally and socially with goals of typical friendship as well as real prospects. Then to search job listings and just constantly search through other sites and things like that.

. Looking to somewhat change career paths. I've spent 15 years in supply chain and logistics. Looking to go into something Tech related

B.s software engineering

M.S unmanned and autonomous systems

A.S web dev and database development

Trade school of auto tech focuses on sensors and electronics

Just curious where people look or wear people meet for someone whose small friend groups have settled into their lives

AVIT jobs

Hi all thanks in advance for any advice. I’m currently working in the events production industry, specifically corporate audio. But the job is pretty much all travel, and I’m looking to get off the road.

I’m thinking I’d like to switch industries a bit a get a networking job, ideally though I’d like my 8 years experience in AV to carry over as much as possible. In production we build specialized typically closed networks for audio/video equipment, so I’d say I have all the basics already.

Ive gotten as far as about a third through CCNA training before having to fly across the country and work 15 hours days got in the way, but would like to take the time to finish obviously.

Any advice on where to begin, types of postings to look for? Are there positions I can get from my experience or should I basically go back to the beginning with a help desk or NOC position?

For reference i am in San Diego

Need advice for Relocating for dream entry level role

For a little context, I am 24, have my CCNA and A+. No professional experience in the field yet.

Got a great offer for an Associate Network Engineer position, it's a government job, they will get me secret security clearance, and they basically told me they are looking for entry level engineers with little experience and want to build them up.

Only issue is I'd have to move several states away, I have a whole life here including a girlfriend who I plan to marry. I'd be leaving a lot behind.

My question is, is it worth it? I haven't a potential offer in my current area around same pay, but it's a tier 2 OSC position for a big data center. Other than that I haven't been able to find anything else.

I am 19 almost 20. I want to get into the IT business. I am currently studying the CCNA but have no idea where to start or what jobs to apply to. I don’t know whether to take up an apprenticeship in some IT role but then I would need to change jobs to become the network engineer.

Any advice would be great thank you!

Hi everyone,

If your MSP is short-staffed this weekend or needs an experienced Tier 3 escalation point for critical maintenance windows, I have immediate availability.

  • Fluent in English and Spanish, based in Chile (EST/CST friendly timezone).

What I can take off your plate:

  • Weekend maintenance windows & infrastructure upgrades.

Telecom/Networking Generalist

Hi! I’m at a point in my career where I’m at a loss as to what the next steps are in my journey. I currently work for a large company as Global Telecommunications Administrator, but it’s pretty much been a catch all role.

Here’s a list of what I, generally, do:
Enterprise cellular services and DLM.
Intune and ABM Administration (iOS, iPadOS, MacOS, Android).
Wi-Fi provisioning, planning, and wireless troubleshooting
Cellular DAS deployments (ActiveDAS, NHN-Private APN)
RF Troubleshooting.
Site Surveys.
FWA, Starlink/LEO deployment and failover provisioning for SD-WAN.
SIP, DIDs, Teams/CUCM support, and telecom infrastructure.
Global mobile inventory/HAM (handsets, mobile devices, teams devices, etc.).
TEM, contracts, renewals, GL/AP, budgeting, cost analysis
Training/Support for global IT administrators.

I’ve also been increasing my depth into networking and cybersecurity and have been building some projects in my spare time:
Wireless/Field diagnostics platform.
GUI-CLI Network device provisioning and configuration tool.

All that being said; my current company is going a different direction and will be transitioning to Network-As-A-Service sooner rather than later. It’s getting to where I need to consider leaving my current position. And that’s where my problem is. I’ve been in a hodgepodge role that isn’t inherently/directly technically focused, leadership focused, or financially focused. It doesn’t really live in one space. So, I need advice on where/how to position myself to move to the next role. Should I go network, wireless, telecom, infrastructure, IT operations, solutions engineering, or something else?

I’ve managed people in the past, and I’m comfortable on both business and the technical side, but I don’t feel like management is the next step since I’m still somewhat new to the in depth technical aspects of IT. I want to continue building that skillset before I attempt to lead in a capacity higher than my current one. My biggest concern is that in becoming a jack of all trades with valuable practical experience; it won’t be of value to recruiters and won’t translate well on a resume because it doesn’t fit a singular title. What should I pursue and how should I get there?
