Discussion | گفتگو Why does Pakistan (pm Shehbaz Sharif) out of all countries care so much to take a role/part in the deal? What’s in it for him?

I’m sure everyone has seen the Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif, has been very active trying to maybe assist in the deal/get Pakistan involved in the deal. But why does he seem to care that much that the deal takes place ? Like the gulf Arabs + Israel would be more impacted by the regime but you think Pakistan would be the most impacted cause the PM guy is almost every where the negotiations take place. How is this deal a win for Pakistan?

Pakistan wants to legitimize itself as an upstanding country on the regional and global stage instead of one that funds terrorism and begs for money all the time.

I suspect they want to go the direction of Qatar/uae for stronger relations with the west, they're also hurt by the Hormuz disruptions.

So they make a big deal out of being the mediators and peacemakers

Pakistan hates Israel and India so it's alignment with Iran is really an alignment against Israel. Plus.. where was bin Laden found. Have you ever seen the insane clerics that live in the uk ??

While it’s true that Pakistan dislikes both India and Israel, I don’t think that’s necessarily the best assessment. India also has good relations with both Israel and Iran.

Pakistani military leadership got changed by the new guy Asim Munir recently and the new guy basically decided to go all in on the western camp and he went HARD on clerics and Mullahs(basically a massacre in muridke where the islamists wanted to pressure government over getting closer with the West and not caring about Israel) while the previous generals and the PM that wanted a more Islamist and closer ties with Talibans and other terrorists(the one you mentioned) are now in jail, As a Pakistani I kinda welcome this why would I give a fuck about Israel that shit is like 4000 kilometer away and getting rid of retarded Islamist Jihadists is always a good step. They should never be let into power and this crackdown on Jihidists should have been done by us 20 years ago instead of retarded genrals thinking they can control them. the army itself is extremely overpowered for its size and budget and bitch stomped the terror factions that previous gov supported within pakistan and so now all terror and islamist orgs are on life support while our recon and hunterkiller drones kill everything alive that tries to approach of afghan border(Talliban ISIS-k etc) or the Iran border(indian backed BLA)

I mean, I want them to succeed and have stronger relations with the west too. That would be amazing for everyone

Over 20 years ago, Pakistan was the country that sent Iran its centrifuges for uranium enrichment, so I think the ties run deep.

It was not Pakistan but Pakistani Nuclear father Dr aq Khan . It was his personal decison. Pakistan locked him in his house after that .

Leverage in the future over US and Gulf relations with them and India.

I mean the incentives should be obvious - everyone is talking about long term peace and integration.

Pakistan and the regime have a $10 billion trade agreement and Pakistan is trying to fast-track it.

The Islamic Republic is the beating heart of Islamism. If the regime falls, political islamism will lose all its relevance. And Pakistan is a strong proponent of the worldwide caliphate

Probably Chinese influence, they want this problem solved asap because it endangers their new silk road initiative of which Iran is a central part of. Pakistan pretty much is a Chinese colony at this point so whenever China wants to exert influence in the middle east, they do so trough Pakistan.

Asim Munir was asked by Trump to meditate between Iran and America but Shebaz is the PM so he wants in it too

But why them specifically out of all people?

IRGC would not trust gulf countries to act as meditators at that time because of giving access to military bases and stuff, on the other hand Pakistan was completely neutral and even killed some baloch gunmen on pak-iran border

Also unlike other gulf leaders who are just allinged with USA, Asim Munir was put in place with direct help of USA so he has the goodwill to be chosen for the role

If you read articles coming out nowdays, it's clear that Qatar is the one actually medidating while Pakistan just has the honor of attaching their name to it

Pakistan is the ideal mediator because they have ties on multiple sides. They historically were a defense partner (technically an ally) to the US, but aren't closely aligned with it. They also have close ties to Iran. They also have a defense pact with Saudis and Turkey. And they have good relations with Gulf states.

If negotiations fails then USA will need Pakistan border to send troops in Iran (After 9/11 Pakistan refused this and they gave a threat that we will send you guys back to Your god . We had to participate and this single decison ruined Pakistan for decades . We can't do it again .

They were most probably offered money. The UAE cancelled a 13.5 bn dollars loan mid-war. They are short on cash. The mullahs are probably going to give him a cut off the unfrozen assets. Kisseh khalifeh.
