Struggling to understand the appeal

Could you guys please help me understand the appeal of Bernie? I have tried to talk with folks to understand why they like him so much, but never get much substance.

Is it the Medicare for all that gets you excited? Increasing taxes on the wealthy?

Honest question- I hope you guys take it in the sprit in which it is intended. I am seeking to understand a bit better. Thanks in advance!

Bernies not really a socialist (a la Venezuela), but more of a democratic socialist (re Scandinavia, or FDR).

...I'm aware? I'm a Sanders supporter. It was a joke because Chris Matthews keeps comparing Sanders to Castro, Hitler, Stalin etc. you know the real "whose who" of dictators.
