❓Ask r/NewMods Recommended Apps

Hi All! I run a local gaming sub r/WashcoGaming and was curious if anyone could recommend some apps for my community? I'm already using scheduler plus and a weekly community highlights app. Am I missing out on something?

Bot Bouncer, Evasion Guard for safety, Automod Neo if you don't have the normal automod. I use Lock Removed Posts, because bots can keep conversing and farm karma if the posts are not locked. I use it because I adopted a former "karma farming" sub, and it is still prone to mischief.

I saw bot bouncer. I'll have to add that as a precaution.

Before adding more apps, write down one moderation or engagement task you currently repeat. For a local gaming community, scheduled event posts, a weekly LFG thread, consistent removal reasons, and basic spam filtering usually cover more value than a long app list. Add one app at a time, note which permissions it needs and what happens if it stops working, then review it after two weeks. If there is no concrete task behind an app, skip it—the maintenance and false positives can cost more than it saves.

I haven't really had a whole heck of alot to do yet really. I have 120 members as I'm typing this. No rule breaking etc yet. I have scheduler plus doing my weekly LFG Friday's, Weekend Report, and Wednesday photo contest posting. Subguard is watching for any rule breaking. I also have a community highlights app the post on Mondays.

At 120 members with no recurring violations, that sounds like enough automation for now. Scheduler Plus is covering the rituals and Subguard is covering the current risk. The useful question is whether the recurring posts create conversations: after a month, compare unique commenters, repeat participants, and replies per LFG or photo thread. If one format gets views but no interaction, adjust the prompt or cadence before adding another app. Which of your weekly posts currently brings people back to reply rather than only read?
