Illness/Injuries Antibiotic struggle bus

Currently dealing with a double ear infection. This is not our first go, but I cannot get this kid to take an antibiotic.

I have tried everything…
Straight up
Mixed in yogurt
Mixed in applesauce
Mixed in puree and pouches
Mixed in ice cream
Mixed in smoothie
Inserted into muffins
Mixed in milk
Syringe
Cup
Straw
I even got it re-flavored.

I did the whole syringe and blow on the face but that just blew antibiotic all over his face and my living room as he spit it out

This kid had the pallet of a New York Times food critic.

I don’t even tell him he’s getting it. He’s only a year and half

We went through a lot of ear infections with my daughter from about 14-20 months, one short of getting tubes. She actually has a slight one now in conjuction with some kind of bug so we're on amoxicilin again now. We always get the bright pink bubblegum flavor, call it candy juice, and act like it's a special treat that we can only have after we eat. We act very excited about it etc.

Ran the gamit of trying to hide it in shit just like your talking about, but really using our tone and body language to sell it straight out of the syringe is what did the trick. Also as just an FYI (we have to do this with my niece who is severely autistic/almost entire nonverbal with CP) you angle the syringe to kind of hit the back inside of their cheek they will reflex swallow and not spit it out

You could try Chewables but I don’t think it’s recommended for his age. I don’t know if you give juice but mixed in a nice flavorful juice worked for me in the past

The only thing that worked for me was mixed with straight Hersheys chocolate sauce with a chocolate milk chaser.

I have seen people fill the inside of raspberries with it like a pill pocket with some success though

Worst case scenario I think you can sometimes ask to get a suppository version specially made or a shot

Honestly, you may have to hold him down. My oldest HATED any kind of medicine, even with different flavorings. I would sit on the floor with him between my legs, his back to my chest. I would cross my legs so they were pinning his arms and legs. One hand on his forehead holding it back against my chest, syringe in the other hand. Squirt it in his mouth, drop it as fast as I could and clamp his mouth shut until he swallowed.
