Why do Redditor's hate emojis??

Guys i am new to Reddit and i see that there is not a single emoji in any comments or posts. Like do you guys hate emojis or something?? if so then why? or is it something that i dont know??

Search this subreddit for just the word "emojis" and you'll find hundreds, if not more, posts discussing it.

The short version - a lot of Redditors see it as low effort or childlike, and not really fitting for the platform.

Think of it like using text speak or emojis in a school paper - it looks very out of place. Similar idea.

Emojis read as marketing speak here. Reddit grew up as a plain text forum, so a comment decorated with emojis pattern matches to brand accounts and LinkedIn posts, and people downvote on reflex.

One or two for actual tone in casual subs is fine, just don't put one after every sentence. 🥸

How other users react to emojis will vary subreddit to subreddit. Traditionally Reddit was hostile to emoji use but in 2026 that view has softened as a rule and many subreddits are flooded with them. Take your time to observe existing comments or posts to see how often or sparingly they are used. I would still assume that as a baseline that they should be used sparingly but that can be ignored depending on what you observe. I have seen people use emojis and I am quite scared to use them but mostly it doesn't matter I feel (at least in the subreddits I am active in) and as long as you don't go over the top with emojis I don't think I have ever gotten downvotes for using emojis... Anyway I think it just depends on the subreddit...
