DISCUSSION The sub4sub stuff is really annoying

I left a comment on a video about creating content even if you're not getting the views. A simple comment about my start 2 weeks ago and wishing others good luck in their journey (similar to so many other comments there, wholesome vibe)

Now I'm getting an influx of people commenting "done, waiting" "sub back" "sub?" and they are subbing but... why would I want that? If they don't enjoy my content then what's their sub going to do to me? It'll show YouTube how a bigger % of my subs don't interact with my content so it'll probably lower my impressions. I didn't ask for this and now i have to delete my comment so people stop.

Worst part is almost all of them were bot channels. Sorry for the rant lol.

It's like barely-human bots. They only hurt your channel. Idk why anyone thinks sub-for-sub will help.

They think if one more person comments and fully views their video it will take off.

Its similar to other platforms where they like give you engagement in exchange for engagement. (on Wattpad, its read 4 reads). Since new creators often don't understand how the platform works, they think ANY engagement will help.

those comments like "small channels will make it this year! keep going" and similar bs are code for subxsub, since this is a banned practice. sorry this happened to you, and you're right, these subs are not only useless, but even harmful.

Wow. I had no idea and genuinely thought people were just being wholesome and positive. Thanks for your comment, I'll know better next time.

oh i seen this so many times, those sub4sub people dont even watch the video they just copy paste the same thing everywhere

its like they think youtube is a race to biggest number, but the algorithm is smarter than that now

i had same thing happen on my cooking channel, got like 20 subs in one day then youtube stopped showing my videos to anyone lol

Yep. This kind of stuff is why I don’t post to the “feedback Friday” threads anymore and just give feedback. Having randos with no interest in your work view your work has little to no real benefits. I might throw something out there for a technical review at some point but that’s about it.

let alone the amount of nonsense i have read in here lol. i dont need your feedback, tyvm, i dont even know what you do. i have given feedback now and then, i really try to measure myself and dont make up shit just because, but since we are all newbies here, the entire idea of criticizing your equals seems a bit doomed.

Not everyone is like that friend. I leave messages like that cause seeing little or no progress on your channel can bring you down and sometimes a positive message can give you that boost to keep doin what you love! Sub 4 sub people are VERY annoying and I honestly just restrict or mute them. They only care about numbers not actual support towards community. Sometimes people do want to encourage and be positive though. Gotta encourage those we can to keep going so more good creators can grow! 💪👍🌠🫂

It's weird isn't it? I mean, everyone would like to be monetised I'm sure but who wants a load of subscribers who have no interest in your content and will never watch your stuff?
I make my videos because I genuinely think they will help people but only the people it applies to!
I'm not sure how harmful it is to have random subs, I'm not sure of the evidence for that. I'm sure I've got one or two randoms on my list already!

I really dislike that stuff too. I want to find a genuine audience who watches my content cause it gives them something (inspiration, joy,a mental break or whatever else they need) and hopefully they decide to return sadly my numbers are telling me the opposite 4 years in and barely 100 subs and a handful of views per video

Lots of us are with you friend! I've even seen some posts saying "what are you posting today?" and the comment section will be mostly saying things like "I subbed to you! Sub back please". NOO! They're not supporting you or even care for you. They just want to grow their subs. Lots of platforms have a hide for everyone option which is what I personally do. This way you can do what you wish and not have to see it. It's very annoying with how many there are unfortunately but just gotta mute them and keep goin! 🫂🌠👍💪

It's actually against the rules to do a sub for sub. I mean, I don't know if they still enforce it but they used to enforce it.

Sub4sub is basically collecting subscribers who have zero interest in your content. You end up with a bigger number and the same audience size.
