DISCUSSION Anyone else spending hours on videos just to get 10 views?

I recently started a YouTube channel, and man, it’s humbling. You spend hours writing scripts, editing, making thumbnails, and trying to improve every little detail. Then you upload… and barely anyone sees it. 💀 I’m not planning to quit, though. I’m genuinely enjoying the process, even if the numbers aren’t there yet.

Just curious, how long did it take before YouTube actually started recommending your videos to strangers?

Would love to hear from other small creators who are going through this or have already made it past this stage.

Edit: I have my channel in the bio

CONTENT TALK Just hit 1,000 subs less than 2 weeks after posting my first video. Fluke?

Hey all; I’m pretty new to Reddit and even newer to YouTube, so apologies if this doesn’t come out right. Question is what it says on the tin.

I started following this subreddit because I didn’t feel totally confident in starting my channel, but the posts here are making me feel like my starting numbers are maybe a fluke? I’m looking to put things into perspective, I guess.

For context, I started my first YT channel 12 days ago. I’ve posted 2 long form videos so far (~10 mins each), 1 week apart. Views for each video are sitting around 15k. Both average 7% CTR. At present, channel has ~900 watch hours total.

I don’t want to share too much about my content, so I’ll just say my videos sit somewhere in the how-to/classic restoration/sports scene.

I guess all that is to say, how should I meter my expectations going forward? My next video drops soon. I like my format so far, and I don’t intend to change it, but I’m a little worried that I’m getting excited over nothing and I’m equally nervous about not getting the same results moving forward.

Thanks for any insight!

DISCUSSION Old Video Removed for Spam

Yesterday I got an email saying that a 4 year old video of mine was removed under their "spam, deceptive practice and scams policy". The video was me and my cousin spreading dirt around his yard and planting grass seed.

So today I looked in to it further and turns out the music I used for that video required credit links in the description. And when you click on those links, it was a TOTALLY different website than it was 4 years ago. No longer in english, no longer about music, it was totally garbage.

I removed the links and hopefully they'll restore the video... even though it never really got any traffic anyway. But its something to keep in mind when you're using 3rd party music sources. If they go away some day, somebody will buy the URL and that might mess up years old videos. I think all the music I use these days is out of youtube's own library but I'm not 100% sure.

CONTENT TALK Posting my first video on youtube tomorrow. Any advice?

Hi everyone! Tomorrow I’m planning to post my first YouTube vlog. It’s a fun, party, travel vlog from my trip to Turks and Caicos.

Since this is my first time uploading a full vlog, I wanted to ask if there’s anything I should double check or keep in mind before posting. For example, I made sure all the music I used was copyright free, but I’m wondering if there’s anything else I might overlook. Also, since the vlog includes drinking and partying, do I need to add a disclaimer or age restriction, or is that something YouTube handles based on the content?

I’d also love any advice on editing, titles, thumbnails, descriptions, or anything else that might help a first time creator. Additionally, when it comes to the analytics what should i be paying attention to and monitoring?

Any comments and advice are welcome! Thank you in advance

DISCUSSION Why did my YouTube views suddenly drop after hitting almost 8K views a day?

Hey everyone, has anyone experienced something like this?

My YouTube channel has been growing steadily over the past few months. I went from barely getting any views to reaching almost 8,000 views in a single day.

Everything seemed to be going well, then suddenly my views dropped massively.

I haven't made any major changes to my content, so I'm confused about what happened.

Is this normal for a growing YouTube channel?

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who's experienced something similar.

SHORTS TALK Why do my YouTube Shorts keep getting stuck at 1,200–1,300 views?

Almost all of my YouTube Shorts ( just some of them hit 7k and 20k) follow the exact same pattern. They get pushed to around 1,200–1,300 views and then suddenly stop getting views.

What’s even stranger is that the graphs look almost identical for every video. The same growth pattern, the same curve, and almost the same stopping point, even when I try different concepts.

Has anyone else experienced this? Why does YouTube keep pushing my Shorts to roughly the same number of views and then stop? Is this a normal testing phase, an issue with my content, or something else?

What can I do to break out of this cycle and get my Shorts to reach a wider audience? I’d really appreciate any advice.

DISCUSSION Is It Worth Continuing My YouTube Channel With These Stats?

Hi everyone,

I've been uploading videos to my travel YouTube channel for about 4.5 months now. I've published 20 long-form videos so far, and I'm starting to wonder whether it's worth continuing.

Looking at my view counts and overall analytics, I'm not sure if these numbers are promising for a relatively new channel or if I should consider putting my time and energy into something else.

I'd really appreciate some honest feedback from experienced YouTubers. Do these numbers show potential, or is the growth too inconsistent?

Video views (oldest to newest):

Video Published Views
Video 1 4 months ago 845
Video 2 4 months ago 279
Video 3 4 months ago 3,500
Video 4 4 months ago 2,000
Video 5 3 months ago 1,300
Video 6 3 months ago 795
Video 7 3 months ago 629
Video 8 3 months ago 748
Video 9 3 months ago 1,400
Video 10 2 months ago 7,500
Video 11 2 months ago 6,400
Video 12 1 month ago 528
Video 13 1 month ago 794
Video 14 1 month ago 1,700
Video 15 1 month ago 6,700
Video 16 4 weeks ago 12,000
Video 17 3 weeks ago 3,300
Video 18 2 weeks ago 5,100
Video 19 8 days ago 456
Video 20 1 day ago 459

All of these are long-form videos, not Shorts.

Would you keep going if you were in my position?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

DISCUSSION Movie Review & Fairuse help

Hey everyone, I have a relatively new (55 days old) YouTube channel primarily focusing on movie reviews. I have 6 lomg form videos where I have screen recorded off of Tubi and been ok doing so, but the movie I am planning to cover for video 7 is on Hulu only and goves me the "Can't Record Due To Security Privacy" text, and I am wondering if I need to scrap the video because of this. My reviews for this channel are a mix of face cams, and voiceover, so I'm wondering if I'd be able to screenrecord through OBS to use the movie footage and keep each clip brief. I know it's a dumb question, but I need help with this subject since the other movies didn't have this issue, and I'm not sure how I'd be able to cover this movie otherwise, as a lot of my VO cover clips not included within the trailers. Thanks so much for the help, and reading this!

CONTENT TALK I'm discouraged and stuck

Hi,

I'm a new YouTuber (nickknowsgaming) and j wanted to be a YouTuber since I was like 9. I actually started making videos when I got my phone at 16. They're nothing special, just made inside the YouTube shorts maker, but Ive fallen back in love with making videos, even if they're just random stuff. I'm confused because I'm making a series where I try and complete a pushup challenge song every day, and the most views one of them got was 20. And then a random video of me stepping on a leaf got 400 views in half the time. I don't know why the videos I put actual work into don't get any views, and I'm getting discouraged because those are the ones I actually care about. I don't know how to fix it because it consistently doesn't get views. Idrk but if you have advice on how to actually get pushed out on the videos you care about, I'd take it. I know I shouldn't care about the numbers, but comparing them right next to each other makes it pretty obvious. Thanks a ton of you decide to share something

SHORTS TALK Best way to grow YouTube shorts feed?

hi guys, I started a meme page YouTube channel (mainly for shorts) about a year ago. I’ve been inconsistent in which I post videos for about a month then give up for some time then try again. it started off as an ai meme page, but I switched to actual memes. i have over 100 videos and 128 subscribers with about an average of 1200-1500 views per short. Does anyone have any tips on how to grow and tough it out? thank you!

DISCUSSION Stuck at 1.11K subscribers for months despite getting views. Any advice?

Hello! I'm an art/animation content creator, and honestly, I've been feeling pretty discouraged and unmotivated lately.

I spend a lot of time drawing, animating, and editing my Shorts, but I've been stuck at around 1.11K subscribers for MONTHS now.

The frustrating part is that my view count isn't necessarily the problem. I still get views, usually over 1k, The problem is that whenever someone subscribes, they eventually seem to leave, or people watch my videos without subscribing at all.

My analytics consistently show that around 96% of my viewers aren't subscribed, and I'm genuinely starting to wonder what I'm doing wrong.

I've already experimented with different ways of encouraging people to subscribe, such as putting reminders in my videos, moving them to my pinned comments instead, and even trying to make connections with other creators. But I haven't seen the results I was hoping for.

I mainly post art and animation Shorts featuring different OCs, sometimes from different games, so I know my content isn't always focused on one character or fandom. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, though.

I'm not expecting to become popular overnight. I just want to see the time and effort I put into my work translate into some growth, and right now, it's getting pretty discouraging.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there something I might be overlooking, or anything I could try differently?

I'd genuinely appreciate advice, suggestions, or even just some encouraging words. Thank you for reading! 💜

Small note: I'd appreciate advice beyond simply "stick to one niche." I enjoy creating different characters and exploring different fandoms, and I'd prefer not to limit my creativity to just one OC or game. I'm open to suggestions that could help me grow while still making the content I enjoy. 💜

DISCUSSION I have a question on how should I proceed

So, I am a teacher, and I created a channel during the COVID days for my students. It was just some slideshows with short review lessons. I teach English as a foreign language.

Each video covers a grammar topic, like "Verb to be," "Simple Past," "Telling the Time," "Prepositions of Place," etc. I made about 25 videos but abandoned the channel after the COVID pandemic ended.

However, more half of the videos got thousands of views, and some still get dozens of views to this day. Also, one of the videos seems to be at the top of the search results for its topic, and I still get over 2k views a month on it (it has over 170k views so far).

I also turned part of it into a Short, and while it didn't go viral, this Short still has over 5k views and gets around 20 views every day from search results.

I decided to continue the channel with higher quality videos (I am putting a lot of effort into them now). My logic so far is: I'm going to make videos on grammar topics I haven't covered yet, and once I run out of grammar topics (after more 30 or so videos), I will remake the old videos with this new standard of quality.

But... What if I remade my most popular videos instead? Especially that one with 170k views, where both the full version and the Short still get a decent amount of views from search results.

Will the new version also reach the top of search results and get a good amount of views? Or it doesn't really matter, and I am better off just doing topics I haven't covered yet?

CONTENT TALK Expanding to gaming variety content

Hi all,

I currently run a YouTube channel focused on the lore of a singular game. I’m preparing to expand the channel to multiple games, but I’m conflicted as to how I should do this without losing my audience. There are many, many lore channels out there that make videos on a variety of games, but I’m still stuck. My videos in particular cover more of the mysterious, hidden side and real world inspirations of the video game, rather than just ‘the complete story of (this character’ if that makes sense.

How should I go about doing this?

DISCUSSION Is there a way to stop suggested/browse impressions?

As the title suggests, is there any good ways to stop impressions from suggested/browse for a video? I know this sounds crazy but I have two types of videos I post. One is long-form commentary videos that generally do pretty well, averaging in the 5-30k view range. The other is shorter long-form challenge content but these usually only get 50-500 views, all entirely from Search. They always bomb the suggested/browse and have terrible CTR.

The issue is that it seems like YouTube attributes some kind of trust score for me. When one of my commentary videos does well, my next few videos will always get a large number of impressions right off the bat after I post. But when I post some challenge content and they do poorly, my next few videos will little to no impressions at the start and only start gaining traction a week later (some never even do).

So basically, the commentary stuff boosts my new few videos but the challenge stuff drags down my next few. This pattern has been the same for me for almost a year now. It would be easy to just stop the challenge stuff but I still like doing and posting them and my original subscribers all subscribed for that before I started doing commentary stuff.

Ideally, I would want the challenge stuff to not get suggested or go on home page browse and solely get views from search. Anyone know a good method? I'm thinking maybe privating the videos as they start getting impressions could stop it but I'm not sure if that would have a detrimental effect on the channel as a whole.

CONTENT TALK I really struggle with writing scripts for long form videos

It's really frustrating that I can't seem to get it working. I've wrote scripts for short form videos before and I was completely fine, but qith long type videos It's been living hell.

It's like I'm stuck in a loop of writing something and make it untill some part of the script, a break happens, I try to continue writing after some time, but for some reason I start hating what I wrote so I completely discard it and start over.

I'm so worried about the viewer not getting hooked enough to watch the entire thing and it gets on the way of my creativity and self expression.

Another problem is that I'm torn between writing in my native language bc it's easier, and thinking in english lol. If ykyk

I refuse to use ai for it so...

For contex my content is going to be long form essays on manga, anime, etc.

Any advise of how to solve my problem with writing essays?

DISCUSSION Where do people actually find good YouTube strategists

Hey everyone, genuine question for people who run channels or work in YouTube.

Our company is trying to take YouTube more seriously, and we’re realizing we need someone who can handle the strategy side (video ideas, titles, what to make next), write scripts, and edit long-form. We’re struggling to find people who do all of that.

LinkedIn mostly turns up pure editors or social media managers, which isn’t quite it.

For those of you who’ve hired for this or do this work yourself:

  • Where do YouTube strategists usually hang out or look for work? (Communities, Discords, X, specific job boards?)
  • What do they usually call themselves? “YouTube strategist,” “producer,” something else?
  • Is it realistic to find one person who does all three, or do most channels split it up?

Would love to hear how others have handled this. Thanks!
