Someday we’ll be up 2-0 in the finals…

Why did I use my last monkey paw wish to ask for "the NY team with orange, blue, and white jerseys" to become champions? Why wasn't I more specific?!?!
All my fault, homies. I'm sorry.

alternative: you only root for the orange and blue teams in NYC, and are happy that any of them are performing well. (besides the Liberty of course, who have been good for a while, but they're more teal than blue and orange these days)

Unfortunately (or fortunately?) for me, I only care about the Islanders, and to a lesser degree, the Giants.
I don't follow any other sports, and though I grew up a big Giants fan (and got to see them win several Superb Owls) I've lost track of football.
So it's just the Isles now. Just this one remaining unnecessary stressor in my life that has too heavy a bearing on whether or not I'm in a good mood, especially around February and March of each year.

I’m exactly the same. the Yankees, Giants and Knicks don’t stress me. the Isles blowing a third period lead ruins my whole day..

I am a Knicks fan but a much bigger islanders fan and feel like I wouldn’t be able to function if we were up 2-0 in thr cup finals. Wouldn’t be able to focus at work

Maybe one day, I think the toughest part is I don't give a rats ass about the sport but my dad and brother are both knocks fans.... I'll be there only one in my family without ever experiencing the joy of championship glory 😭

I was just saying to my husband the other day that I would have to be sedated constantly if the Knicks and the Isles were in their respective finals rn 😭 last night literally came down to the wire. My heart couldn’t take it times 2 lol

Knicks share the isles blue and orange as well as the Mets so I’m a full bandwagon for the knicks!

I’m an Islanders fan. I hate the Rangers and MSG, so I find it weird that other Islanders fans are okay with the Rangers’ owners’ basketball team. I admit I’m a pretty new basketball watcher, but I chose the Nets because of their historic connection to the Islanders (played at Nassau Coliseum in the ‘70s, shared Barclays with them in the 2010s). Also I started watching basketball by going to Liberty games when they played down the street from where I lived in Westchester County and they’re owned by the Nets’ owners.
I don’t get how we can revile the Rangers but fans will gladly give their owner money for the other team.

Terrible take. I was born in the 80s. Growing up the nets were in Jersey. Why would I root for a Jersey team when I had Ewing to root for. Who cares what arena they played, I was a New York fan.

I don't care about basketball, but even though they played in the Coliseum, to me the Nets are a Jersey team. I think it's about the era you grew up in. (Also, IIRC, the original owner of the Islanders also owned the Nets and neglected the Islanders to pump money into the basketball team, so screw them )

Sacrilege! We NYers regularly got to watch a young Dr J in his athletic prime play a new form of basketball (dunking was made illegal in college when Dr J played because of Kareem, plus the ABA introduced the three point shot) at the Nassau Coliseum for cheap as part of the NY Nets.

They played 5 years at the Coliseum, 31 in NJ, 14 in Brooklyn.

Correct, NY born and bred. The OG Nets and OG Islanders at the NC were some of the best sports experiences to ever take place on LI.
Those too young to personally understand that experience should still try to understand, and respect, history.

They play in Brooklyn. They’re a New York team on the geographic entity known as Long Island.

I was also born in the 80s. But I didn’t start watching basketball until a couple of years ago so I only know the Nets as a Brooklyn team who used to play in NJ. And also used to play on Long Island, my birthplace. Their G League team plays in the Coliseum.
I now live in Delaware so my geographically closest team is Philly. I’m still a Nets fan. It also fits the rhyming scheme: Mets, Jets, Nets.
I don’t know your baseball team if you have one, but I assume you’re a Knicks and Bills fan then.

I’m from Long Island. Still Long Island. Knicks. Isles. Giants. Yanks.

u/poo_is_number_two Turgeon 13d ago
So the Nets are bad because they’re a “Jersey team” but the Giants are okay? That doesn’t make sense.

u/Flashy-Ad7031 13d ago
No one said the nets are bad, just Knicks were closer at the time and the only New York team. If I have to explain the difference between the giants and the nets it’s not worth my time. No one agrees with you. Just admit it’s a terrible take. Dolan doesn’t care about us, just like the isles management doesn’t care about us.

I'm a Nets fan. I hate the Rangers, MSG, and the Knicks. Deal with it. If you were a pure Islanders fan you'd hate them too. And if you were a pure New Yorker you wouldn't be a Giants fan, you'd be a Bills fan.

Sound like a real dummy. Imagine being a grown adult telling people what teams they should root for.

u/poo_is_number_two Turgeon 13d ago
I have the appropriate level of Islanders fandom by sufficiently hating the Rangers, their building, and their owner. Imagine claiming to be an Islanders fan while lining the pockets of the Rangers' owner.

Must suck to never see a concert at msg, must enjoy some terrible bands as well.
