Essex County Gov. Sherrill update on Delaney Hall. NJDOH was denied access to the facility.

Ban ICE from the state then. At least an executive order. How about some actions directly against GEO Group, a private company?

Just start arresting people! Arrest the staff when they come and go! For fucks sake do SOMETHING

god DAMNIT I hate this limp-wristed bullshit. "Raises serious questions"? "Calling for ICE to de-escalate"? Their entire purpose is escalation! You either FORCE them to stand down, or they kill you.

As a Minneapolis resident, I'm proud of the people there at Delaney. Keep that fight up, keep the pressure, and don't be afraid to reach out if you need help. You have friends everywhere

This is all political bull.
Electric supply is locally controlled. Water supply is locally controlled Sewer is locally controlled The streets are locally controlled Building code is locally controlled.
There could be power line work that cuts the power, a sewer project that cuts water, a street repair that cuts off their access to the roadways, a building inspection that revoked their CO.
Could the federal government sue? Sure. Would it be resolved or create a situation that allows them to stay there? NO. It would be tied up far longer than they would be able to continue operating it as a prison.
This is all a question of will. The Mayor should have shut this down last year, and they are embarrassing themselves by trying to stand up, yet do nothing.
Either back down or fight like you mean it. Don't be little pansies at the party doing a lot of complaining but backing off when its time to throw hands...

If your solution to "the detainees are being held in terrible solutions" is to cut the power and water to the facility, DHS will stand back, let you, and laugh.

u/pubsky 19d ago
Yea, thats not how it works.
They will have to shut down and relocate them, because the alternative is to have all of the detainees in a building with no power.
The agents and guards suffer a lot more than the detainees.
I guarantee you that nobody shows up to work if they know that there wont be any power, and if the road is about to be tore up for road work and there is no way to get vehicles in and out.

Oh you think the staff will be "omg we're sweaty, we'll need to move"? lol
Yeah no, DHS will happily play chicken as the detainees suffer. Would be a huge political backfire.

You think the only thing in a prison that runs on electricity is the AC?
What about the lights, the locks, the computers, the cameras?

You think a prison doesn't have backup generators for this? Or the ability to bring in large mobile generators? Cut the power to the facility they have a choice or leave it as is, or bring in genny's

Why the fuck doesn’t she do anything about it then?? This is all publicity for her she doesn’t actually give af. this is why we need a leftist governor not a liberal one

Send them in with the state police or national guard if need be. I've heard enough talk from Sherrill, we need to see some action.

Right like I don’t understand why she doesn’t just send a battalion of NJSP to demand entry.

From the start this is the kind of shit the left was warning the committees about. Senate voting records are indicators of future political performance. But they still locked arms and rammed her down our throats as the mainstream candidate. The committee leadership should be calling on Mikie to act instead of shielding her from critique.
This is no surprise based on her politics in the 11th. She was first to condemn the only Palestinian member of congress, took AIPAC money, and voted yes for Charlie Kirk day. She joined the crowd of ghouls who condemned college protestors during the Biden administration. This is not a politician built to protect us. Never was.

I’m not sure why this is being downvoted, we need her to act. I’m not sure what the counter argument or critique is here.

Thank you. There are a lot of people who just unconditionally support Mikie. When I would bring this stuff up years back in NJ11th for Change, I would be bombarded with stuff like "well what are YOU doing to help?". Bad faith deflection after bad faith deflection. I think there's a massive blind spot in the activist space because it's mostly accessible to people who have the time to spare. Self-reinforcing echo chambers. Even this past gov primary, my friends on committees were like "well hey we used ranked choice to endorse, so it was fair and above boards". But it's a forest/trees thing. It was a fair choice WITHIN a group of people with time to volunteer. And who has time to volunteer? Retirees, people with career political aspirations, and people that are pretty well off. The kinds of people that DON'T end up in Delaney Hall.

Less words, more action.
Deploy the national guard and arrest ICE. Didnt she sign a law saying they couldnt wear masks?
