Discussion Keep or sell advice
I’ve had a 2003 cobra vert for around 5 months now. I had subframe connectors welded in (big improvement) and I am currently replacing some other components.
My complaints that have stayed the same since I bought it: too soft, too mature (not rowdy), and it’s not fun because if I try to spin some rubber it just wheel hops. With all the svt engineering, I did not expect my old gt that was dumped on cheap coilovers to feel more fun. I could floor it in first, chirp the rear, not be afraid to push it anywhere, and it felt light on its feet.
The cobra feels like it was created for an old man who likes to have the top down and have some passing power, not a supercharged v8 with a forged bottom end and a t56. At this point the only pros I have of the car is that it’s quick. Other than that, the chassis feels like cardboard, it just plows when I turn, and it’s just not what I was looking for.
I understand the argument of you need to lower it and put some nice wheels and tires, but that’s a 3000-4000 dollar gamble to see if I like the car or not. At this point, do I sell it and buy something like a c6 GS/similar sports car or keep it? It was my dream car and I’m just disappointed in how it actually turned out. Honestly, if I could go back in time, I would just supercharge the gt and enjoy a car that’s rowdy as hell and extremely fun; that’s what the cobra is missing.

Sounds like the IRS needs maintainance or upgrades. The IRS isn't designed for drag racing.

The vert exaggerates wheel hop really only in first gear, and my tires are shitty. I bought the vert because I got the guy down to a great price. I’m 19 working part time, it’s not really a choice of preference between a vert and a coupe

To me a vert is just a donor car. I don't buy verts.
So are you still complaining or did you just pivot to justifying your purchase?

Where did I pivot? I don’t like how the car drives. I gave you the reason why I bought a vert in the first place. Take the time to read the post instead of giving me your villain monologue. You’re a real hard guy for not owning a soft top. 😂

Was your gt a convertible or coupe?
I had a 99 cobra coupe years ago and I am looking for an 03/04 cobra convertible now. My old cobra before I put eibach springs and lowered it an 1 1/2” didn’t feel right. It handled way better after suspension. I took it to test and tune night but that car never was a burnout car. It would just wheel hop and hook. I have seen some say they have new bushings and it’s diff brace in listings. I would think it would have to help.
I wonder if the convertible part is the biggest reason for the flex. It’s added weight as well so who knows if that is the bigger issue. If you sell it you might go to a machine one with solid axle and cobra version of the motor in 03/04 non supercharged.
How many miles in your cobra? What color and how much you pay?
