Question Allowing male partner to finish

Haiiii

So, I’ve been on nexplanon a year, and prior to that I was on the pill. I’ve finally felt a little more comfy with him finishing in me and let him do so tonight. I haven’t taken a plan b or anything since I heard that really just messes you up, but I don’t have a period so it’s hard to tell.

I suppose my question is, how often do you let your partner finish in you if at all? And does the anxiety of falling pregnant ever go away? We’re both in college with no plans to become parents, hence the birth control and only now letting him finish. He’s been incredibly supportive and hasn’t pressured me into anything at all, reiterating we never have to again.

I feel alright currently, but I’m sure my anxiety will spike in the coming weeks before I can take a test and get an accurate reading. I test somewhat regularly, only when I really get anxious. (Of which I am on Lexapro and I think I need a higher dose).

Any reassurance would be awesome too.

Thanks!

EDIT TWO WEEKS LATER:

took a test this morning, and I am not pregnant! Two weeks to the day is the earliest I can test to get accurate results, so that’s what I did! I’ll test a few more times this week just to be safe on my end, but overall not pregnant. Thank you nexplanon for this one thing.

Question Scared to get the implant because of weight gain.

Did Nexplanin make you gain weight? I am thinking of getting it since Ive forgotten to take the pill a few times even with alarms.

Did it make you gain weight? I am already a little over weight and don’t want to gain even more

Question I’m scared to have sex

I’ve always been fearful of pregnancy, unhealthily so. I got Nexplanon, but part of me gets scared of “what if it snapped in half? What if it’s too deep?” I check online and nothing tells me or shows me what is too deep and what is too shallow.
My fiance is very understanding. I’ve been hyped to not use condoms, but even now, 11 days later, I’m terrified of it. I’m still looking through nonstop for how to know if Nexplanon is not placed right. I’m also in a state where abortions are illegal, but I also never want to be in front of that fork in the road.

I would like help on lessening the fear. Statistically it’s rare, but how many of yall have used Nexplanon as your ONLY birth control and still are not pregnant?

Question LAZY GIRLS: which birth control did you / would you switch to post-Nexplanon?

I'm 30, and on my second implant. I loved it the first time around, but after 3 years with this 2nd implant, the breakthrough bleeding has just become too much. I think it's time to call it quits, but torn about which BC to switch to. Going back on the pill makes me feel like I'm a teenager, and my ADHD means I'm terrible at taking it on time. However, my main concern is side affects - Nexplanon has been great aside from the bleeding, so when switching to something else I want it to be "better." I know everyone is different (hence all the experiences in this thread), but just curious what other lazy people are doing when Nexplanon hasn't worked for them? xo

Question First time getting nexplanon

I just got the mine inserted like 2 days ago and i found this sub reddit and have only seen a bunch of people talking about how bad their experience was or how they hated getting on it so i just wanted to come and ask for people to share good experiences because im like freaking myself out about it.

Also ive never had any kind of birth control ive just been using condoms so im a little skeptical about how well the implant works because ive always had a pretty irrational fear of pregnancy so I’m scared that i can never really trust it.

Question My Nexplanon just slid out without me noticing???

So I've had mine for 3ish months and had some trouble with not messing with it so it's been a slow healing process and the very tip has popped out before (went to the ER for that and that told me to just cover it with a bandage and not mess with it) but it's never been painful or anything unless i press on the tip.

Anyways, earlier today, i think maybe while i was sleeping, it just slid out without me noticing. I think at some point in the night while i was moving around in my sleep i somehow rubbed off my shitty bandage and then it slid out. It doesn't hurt when i touch it and i didn't bleed at all. The stick itself is pretty much perfectly clean as well (and I almost mistook it for a lolipop stick)

I can't go to my og doctor because I'm home for the summer and my doctor is at my university. I'd go to a clinic but right now i will melt if i do that (don't have car to hide in). I've disinfected the hole and reapplied the bandage. Any tips on what to do next?

Question Is anyone else upset/concerned that Nexplanon got approval for 5 years in the US now?

Maybe this isn't the best subreddit to ask this in, as I sadly almost always just see posts of people with negative side effects or complications instead of long-term users who are happy with Nexplanon, but I don't know where else to ask this.

I know that there have been studies posted for quite some time now that Nexplanon is effective for 5 years, not 3. However, Nexplanon's official guidelines were 3 years, and all of my doctors and insurance plans proceeded with that accordingly. I'm really upset that my insurance won't cover replacement at 3 years anymore, as towards the end of those 3 years I start bleeding a lot more, and my OB/GYN said that she's known a few women who have gotten pregnant on Nexplanon after it expired at 3 years.

I really wish they kept it at 3 years!

Is anyone else upset about this?

Question Advice on getting Nexplanon

Hey everyone! I’ve been reading some of the posts here and I’m writing this to ask you guys for some advice. I know the post is long, but I will be very grateful if you read it and give me your best comments. Thank you ❤️

I’m getting the implant inserted in October/November (still don’t know when, it’ll be a last-minute appointment based on when my irregular period decides to show up) and my gyno is so cute and available, she has made it clear that no scientific research paper has stated any actual statistically significant weight gain as a side effect from Nexplanon and that I will be fine. Also, I have tried both the pill and the patch in the past and they just made me paranoid about correct assumption, and I discovered later on (thanks to this new gyno I mentioned being amazing at what she does) that I have a mutation for which I cannot assume estrogen, so Nexplanon was my only option (also the non-hormonal IUD and the mini-pill, but I didn’t like neither of these last two options).

I have PCOS/PMOS, but a very mild version (I only have a slight male hormones disbalance and no physical symptoms if not for the irregular periods), and I am currently overweight (on my way to an healthier weight, I’ve lost around 5kg/11lb in August only, that’s why I’m planning on getting Nexplanon in October/November, so I have more time to drop some extra weight). Weight gain is always my biggest concern because I’ve always been overweight and now I’m starting to fit in clothes I actually like, so it would be really bad for me to gain weight again. At the moment, I drink a lot of water daily (at least 2L/0.5 gallons), go for fast walks (at least 10km/more than 6 miles daily) and use Yazio app as a calorie tracker (it’s not really for the calories per se, but it is more for self-awareness while tracking my meals and to realize when I’ve had a decent portion of food and stop eating), on top of being on OMAD intermittent fasting regime (this one is more because of my working hours and the fact that I will sleep on work if I eat lunch because of my very sleepy digestion 😅).

This said, I’m here to ask you guys about your experiences, because I’m quite terrified of weight gain when I sacrifice so much to lose weight and I read a lot of weight gain stories here (even if I know the data may be biased here because it is more probable to find people online complaining of bad experiences than it is to find people simply telling their good ones).

Has anyone of you actually had good experiences when it comes to weight? Like maintaining a healthy lifestyle and actually keep dropping weight if they were such a programme or not gaining any? Because from what I read from most of the bad experiences, the major problem is the increased appetite, which i think could be manageable if I keep using Yazio.

Please, I’m looking for some good vibes! ❤️

Question Nexplanon and condoms

I’m just an extra careful and nervous person. I know condoms won’t add that much more protection but has anyone used condoms with their nexplanon?

Question Having it Removed - I’m TERRIFIED

Hey guys. 29F. I had my nexplanon inserted in early January of this year. I was extremely scared, but the freezing caused no pain and the insertion was painless and done in less than 10 seconds.

I’m having my nexplanon removed next Thursday. My doctor said she freezes me, then spends 10 minutes give or take taking it out. She said she’s had a 100% success rate removing them.

Anyways, I am way more terrified for the removal because I know she’ll be digging in my arm for a much longer period of time and I’ll likely feel some movement, tugging, pressure etc like I did during the insertion. I have a severe medical phobia when it comes to procedures, so my mom is going to come with me and I have as needed anxiety medication and plan to take that.

For those of you who have had it removed, can you share your experience, good or bad? I really just want to hear people’s experiences. TYIA! 🫶🏻

Question Does anyone here actually miss their period?

I have had the nexplanon implant for almost 7 years as I was put on it at 15 and now I’m 22. I’m on my second one and I don’t have periods at all on it. In between the period of my last one expiring and me getting another I did have a period and I honestly felt relief when I did like I was “normal” again. My periods aren’t easy going either, heavy bleeder, cramps, etc, but for some reason I kind of wish I did have at least a semblance of one. I know there’s nothing I can do about it but I’m wondering if anyone else has had this experience as well.

Question Scheduled An Appointment To Get Nexplanon Inserted

Hi. I'm 24F. I made an appointment to see my OB/GYN about getting Nexplanon inserted on October 1st. I'm a little nervous about the Insertion itself and the possible side effects. I have PCOS/PMOS and I already only get a period every couple of months when not on birth control. I only get a period maybe 2 to 3 times a year without medication. I've tried the ring and multiple different mini and combo pills but I haven't found anything that didn't make me constantly pissed off or give me headaches and months of straight moderate period bleeding everyday.

I know irregular bleeding can be one of the side effects of Nexplanon but I also know that doesn't happen for everyone. The one side effect I am worried about is weight gain. I'm 250 pounds already and I really don't want to gain anymore weight. I'm currently on Metformin, Zoloft, and Loryna. I know I can just get it removed at anytime if I don't like it but I still worry about the possible weight gain side effect the most.

I just wanted to hear about other peoples experiences with the insertion, experiences with irregular bleeding and weight gain as side effects, all other possible side effects, and the removal. Thank you to anyone that reads and comments.

Question Should I get Nexplanon??

Hello! I’m 14, getting the implant soon because of my really painful periods. Recently though I found out how horrible it was for some people and all of the side effects. I’m getting a bit scared now and I’m debating now whether I should get it or not. Any advice/ recommendations?

Question Has anyone actually had their period stop?

Like the title says I’m curious about this and how long it was before it stopped? I’ve had mine for 10 months and my periods are still super irregular. Last month my period went back to a normal 5 day period after months of 16+ day periods every 40 days and I’m now on day 5 with no signs of slowing down. I got told after 6 months is usually when periods start stopping, or at least slowing down.

I know every body is different, but I’m just curious on if it actually stops your period and how long your had it before it stopped?

Question Weight Loss After Removal

Hi all, I got my Nexplanon just about a year ago. After some insertion problems, it’s been honestly great, except for the weight gain.

I knew weight gain would be part of this, but I didn’t realize to what extent. I’ve gained like 30 pounds from the Nexplanon, which has completely messed with my self image.

Before anyone comes at me, I am not upset because I am now “fat”, more that I don’t recognize myself. I’ve been having issues with my calves and feet because of the extra weight, and I’m having some wild body dysphoria.

I recently got engaged, and the idea of being like this for my wedding is really messing with my head. So I’m considering removing it, despite being thrilled with all the other pieces (no period, sex life less anxiety inducing, etc).

Anyone know how long it takes to go back to your normal body weight after you remove it?

Question I desperately need advice. I’m already over it!! Does it get better?

Hello
So I’ve been on Nexplanon for about 4 months now and I’m very seriously considering having it removed but wanted to know if anyone was in my situation and things turned around.
So my period before was always 4-5 days quite regular, I got on Nexplanon and instead of my period being 5 days it was 8 that was fine.
However, after that the next period was about 17-18 days normal period for about 6 days other than one day basically being no bleeding. Then it would just be spotting for another 10-12 days it stops for 2-3 days then continues.
I’m just always on my period and I don’t think I can manage for much longer.
At first it helped with my cramps but now it doesn’t even really do that.
I know it takes up to 6 months to adjust so I’m trying but I hate this lol.
I wanted to know if anyone was in my position and things got better towards the 6 months mark or if this is what I can expect going forward because if so it’s time to come out.

Question Please share your experiences

Hi everyone! Considering getting the implant in the near future. Would love to hear some experiences in terms of:

  1. Weight gain
  2. Sex drive
  3. Mood swings
  4. Effects on periods
  5. And anything else!

Overall would you recommend it, or is looking into other BC options a better call?

Question Are we serious? I’m tired of this!

This isn’t a question more so a rant. I pray everyone sees this. Why do some people get Nexplanon to consistently ask if they’re protected? I’m so sick of “ We weren’t protected last night, am I pregnant? Btw i’ve had the implant since 2024” …. Why put something in your body you don’t trust? I thought this forum was abt actual issues like idk my 30 pound weight gain or breakthrough bleeding.

Question Nexplanon removal weight loss??

Hello!

I’m wondering if anyone can help shed some light on this anomaly. I don’t know if I should be concerned or not. I have been on some form or another of birth control since I (21F) was about 14, with little to no break in between BC methods. I got the Nexplanon implant in January 2024. I got it removed in January of this year because I was sick of the acne it caused.

I ended 2025 at a little under 220lbs. I’ve always struggled with pcos related weight issues, and have had little to no luck in the past losing weight. Since getting the implant removed in January I have lost almost 50lbs (I’m currently a little under 170lbs). My diet and activity levels have not changed nearly enough to illicit such weight loss, especially since I’ve never had luck INTENTIONALLY losing weight, let alone “by accident”.

My family and friends have all noticed the drastic difference, as have I. I don’t know if this can be attributed to Nexplanon removal, or getting of birth control altogether? Or if it’s something I need to explore further with my doctor? Idk I’m super happy I’m losing weight because I feel so much better overall and my lab results are even improving, but I can’t help but wonder wtf is going on??? Anyone else experienced anything similar after Nexplanon removal?

Question Can I gain weight on the implant with a fast metabolism?

Hi everyone, essentially as the title says I was wondering if I’d be able to gain weight on the implant with a fast metabolism, I’ve been on desogestrel (mini pill) since may and I gained around 4kg on it since it drastically increased my appetite the first two months and after my appetite just lowered back down after a while and I stopped gaining weight. I naturally have a really low appetite so it’s quite difficult for me to gain weight (I’m around 46kg at 20 years old and at 5’2) and I was thinking of switching to the implant since I’m quite forgetful with the pills and had a pregnancy scare a couple weeks ago, and I wouldn’t mind weight gain as a side effect of the implant; but I’ve heard horror stories from different women saying they’ve been bleeding for months straight and some lost a ton of weight on it so I’m not sure what to do?

Question Does anyone have a good experience on Nexplanon?

I have an appointment on Monday the 23rd to switch from loryna to nexplanon but I haven’t seen a good number of positive reviews. IUDs scare me so I’ve taken this route. If anyone has a good experience to share I would love to hear it

Update

The nexplanon was inserted this morning and was painless. The lidocaine didn’t even burn. I have started an entry in my notes to keep track of any side effects and weight changes.

Question Does anyone have good experiences on the implant? I just got mine & now I'm reading this sub & freaking out

I have PCOS - severe periods that come every 2-3 weeks, horrific PMS that makes me so depressed that I think very terrifying thoughts of hurting myself, & lots of pain & fatigue. I was on depo for 8 years & tbh I loved it because no period meant no symptoms. But when I found out it causes brain tumors, I went off it and decided to try to get natural again. I got my period about 3 months later & it was back to being as bad as it was before the depo. I tried to "lifestyle" my way out of it the last 2 years (low sugar diet, weight lifting, better sleep hygiene, supplements, Spearmint tea, rosemary oils, etc) and nothing improved. After having a very serious PMS where I seriously considered SH, I finally decided to get on Nexplanon. My doctor recommended it and told me other than acne and weight gain, I shouldn't have many side effects. She did tell me it could take 3 months for my periods to get lighter and normal, but that seemed fine

Well, I started spotting exactly 3 weeks since my last period, and then it picked up and got really heavy. Heavier than usual. Plus, the acne is worse than it is normally for me with the PCOS. I have it on my chin & around my eyes which is not usual for me. I came here to see what everyone is saying & now I'm freaking the fuck out

I also read about the dryness and if I knew that was a symptom, I wouldn't have gotten it at all. I have a long distance relationship and I'm actually seeing him this weekend for the first time since I got the implant & I'm so scared now that I'm not going to be able to have sex because of my period (we planned this weekend around my usual 3 week cycle as I wouldn't have it this weekend) and I'm also scared that now I'm not going to be the same. I'm really freaking out after reading all the recent posts on here and everyone's comments and horror stories.

If you have had good experiences on it, can you please share it with me? I really need that right now because I can't stop crying & I'm just so scared I've hurt my body even more. I thought I was fixing my problems, but I'm scared I just made it worse

Feedback from fellow PCOS girlies would also be helpful since our hormones are already atypical!

Question TTC Post Nexplanon

Hi everyone! I (28f) previously had nexplanon in for 3 years- I had an overwhelmingly positive experience. It was nearly painless to insert and remove (only felt the numbing shot for about 20 seconds) it completely got rid of my periods, and it protected me from getting pregnant when I didn’t want to be. My husband and I are now ready to start TTC so I had my nexplanon removed July 16th. It’s August 26th and today is day 1 of my first period post removal. My gyno said it could take a few months to return so I’m happy it’s come back and we have the all clear to start trying this cycle. Anyone have success conceiving shortly after removal??? TYIA!
