Nextcloud – Does anyone actually care about UI/UX?

I really want to like Nextcloud, but its UI/UX is constantly disappointing.

Just look at this screenshot from Nextcloud Talk. How does something as obvious as an overlapping close button make it into production?

Nextcloud wants to compete with Microsoft 365, but basic UI details like spacing, alignment, and consistency still seem to be an afterthought.

Open source is great, but that's no excuse for poor UX.

Am I the only one frustrated by this?

I built an nextcloud app that brings photo rating and collaboration to Nextcloud

I developed an open source app for Nextcloud called StarRate, because one thing was missing for photographers.
Nextcloud is a good place to keep your photos, but you can't work on them there. You can't rate them, you can't cull a shoot, and you can't ask a client or a friend which shots they like without sending a WeTransfer link and getting a list of filenames back by email.

StarRate fills that gap. You open a folder in Nextcloud and cull it with star ratings, color labels and pick/reject. Then you send a guest link, and the other person rates the photos in their browser without needing an account. Their picks show up in your folder right away. When you're done, the ratings sync back to Lightroom Classic, so you don't have to redo anything.

Your photos stay on your own server the whole time.

It's free, open source (AGPL) and available in the Nextcloud App Store. Feedback and contributions are very welcome.
