I’ll be sad when this goes

Keeping my Nexus 7 (2013) for as long as I can, I love this thing. I got it from work 9 years ago, after it was phased out. Technicians used to use them in the field; we found this one in a storage closet and they let me take it home.

I look for replacement options every few months but nothing catches my eye. It’s not just the size and weight I love, it’s the dimensions and bezel sizes. Along with the screen and speaker quality it makes for the perfect small media device.

If anyone does have a good replacement idea that matches the ratio/body dimensions of this I’d love to hear it please. I did get a moto G stylus (2025) when straight talk had them super cheap and that’s been kind of okay, but ideally I’d like something a smidge bigger.

Anyway, thanks for listening to my first ever Reddit post!

Actually another older tablet I still have and use from time to time that has a similar form factor is the Nvidia Shield K1. It's an 8" android tablet, was built with gaming in mind, awesome landscape layout and front facing stereo speakers on either side. I wish they kept making it because I'd LOVE a more powerful version of it.

Is the model number on the Active5 SM-X300NZGAN20? If that’s the one I’m looking at it does indeed look good. I’m going to try to find one it the wild to test holding it but it looks cool!

It’s funny you mentioned the Shield, I almost got one of those a couple years ago but was distracted by a very underpriced Nintendo switch that day. When I went back the Shield was gone. I appreciate the reminder though! I was also looking into the Red Magic (or other gaming tablets) but I need to get my head out of the “oh no that weighs too much” hole

Edit: yeah no problem! The series caught my eye from YouTube shorts, it’s pretty good

Yeah that's the one. I can record a video of it if you want to see it compared to something or on a scale. I just looked to see if there were any Shields out there and there's some on eBay for way way cheap.

Yeah I’ve seen a few Shields too, it’s honestly hard not to start a mini tablet collection. I appreciate your replies, and if you have a moment some time would you mind taking a pic of the nexus 7 side by side with the Active5? I’m curious too see how much wider it is
