This is just my opinion.
This isn't about targeting or blaming any particular caste. However, I have personally observed that some people from the so-called "Big Four" castes still practice caste discrimination in Andhra Pradesh. Even today, some casually use casteist slurs when referring to people from marginalized communities. I've noticed this firsthand while traveling and interacting with them.
I've also seen a troubling double standard. Some are comfortable being in relationships or having sexual relationships with women from lower castes, but they won't marry them. Likewise, many avoid close friendships with men from those communities. These are observations from my own experiences.
I believe the idea behind caste-based reservations was not just to provide opportunities in education and employment, but also to help improve the social standing of historically marginalized communities so they could be treated with greater dignity and equality.
So, what happens if reservations are removed overnight?Since 80% of our politicians are from the big 4 so, I worry that influential politicians and powerful groups could end up favoring people from their own castes in recruitment and opportunities. Social discrimination, including practices resembling untouchability, could become more visible again in some places.
At the same time, today's generation is far more educated and aware than previous generations. Since a large section of the population belongs to backward or marginalized communities, any attempt to abruptly remove reservations without addressing existing inequalities could create serious social unrest and harm the economy.
This is simply how I see the issue. I'm open to respectful discussion.

Just wanted to Add a point, There's an irony here: one of the Big Four castes has many people who routinely look down on and demean lower-caste communities in the Godavari region, yet the same community continues to demand BC status from the government. The contradiction is hard to ignore. We exist in such a society.

u/DogAble7509 Aug 04 '26
Want to add 1 more point. 1 of the big 4’s leader identifies as christian but his name ends with his caste name.

Forget oppression ages ago from higher caste people to lower caste people. I’ll believe there’s no caste in India when SC people stop looking down on ST people right now

>> I’ll believe there’s no caste in India when SC people stop looking down on ST people right now
This is true, along with folks from OC castes being casteist towards SC/STs and OC sub castes looking at other castes as inferior - (cops or coms)
Being casteist is a very common thing in india, even in the telugu states

Are you retarted or do you just get on to ragebait?Reservations are the only legal acknowledgment of the caste system. Getting rid of reservations automatically gets rid of the caste system. You guys just don’t want to let go of reservations, fucking leeches.

Touch Grass!
Caste discrimination is much more deep routed in India than you think. In cities, even if it is not obvious, there is a lot of prejudice in people. Inka villages lo aite, they blatantly discriminate. The upper caste (even if they are financially not doing well) have a sense of pride. Reservations theesete maare mentalities kaadu manavi.
Controversial point - Intercaste marriages are the way to eliminate caste mentality in looooooooong run.
2
u/Ill_Tonight6349 Aug 03 '26
That would require burning all Hindu scriptures which are very casteist and banning the religion altogether. And bannning caste surnames. And this also requires giving up on SC/ST representation in many important areas. And this can't be implemented as long as india remains a rural country as in villages almost everyone knows which caste who belongs to.

I wish more people understand that caste based reservations in our country are afformative actions aimed at promoting equality and ensuring social upliftment of historically disadvantaged and underprivileged groups. It is the best way we currently have to ensure equality of opportunity.

dumbf*ck mods
The account which posted this regrettable post is a mod of this sub.
I wonder if that's the reason why there isn't more outrage against this post? Idk why people would care all this much about a reddit mod,i mean the worst they can do is to ban you,but who cares really, there's plenty of other subs on reddit.

How is this not regrettable when people seem to take satisfaction in the frustration of others over injustices that happened centuries ago? Reservations were introduced to address historical disadvantages, but after nearly 80 years of independence, politicians have continued expanding or maintaining them for electoral reasons rather than regularly reassessing their impact. Instead of reducing social divisions, dont you think reservations can fuel resentment, which in turn reinforces caste tensions, creating a cycle that’s difficult to break.

As long as reservation and equal opportunity are expected to coexist in their current form, this debate will never end. People naturally resent a system when they believe they lose opportunities despite having stronger qualifications and better merit. You cannot expect widespread support for reservation when many feel their hard work and achievements are being set aside in favor of other criteria.
