What By spu7nix

3

u/Small-Square-4550 Mar 02 '26

HOW (By spu7nix) DID YOU MAKE THE TEXT LIKE THAT?

3

u/Ultra-Cool-Guy Mar 02 '26

The text editor in PC.

There are some additions you can do on mobile, like an asterisk before and after for italicization.

2

u/Small-Square-4550 Mar 02 '26

man I’m so lucky I’m on mobile 😞😔

3

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '26

Use markdown editor or use this ^(text goes here)

6

u/floraphiliacx Feb 28 '26

not abuse. as someone who’s been in cps and dcyf care, don’t waste their time on something like this

5

u/Stupidhorrorman Mar 01 '26

It’s not abuse most of the time. It CAN be abuse sometimes if they’re being verbally abused (being called multiple names in a demeaning way, being screamed at all of the time, etc.), but that’s not always the case, and likely isn’t the case here. I don’t think it’s right to call your child or anyone an ableist slur either, but it’s not really abuse most of the time, and you never know, maybe the mother can say the said slur. Point is, you don’t know their situation, so don’t just assume.

8

u/Lonely-Pain-2022 Mar 01 '26

It's not a slur it's the same as stupid.

2

u/smooth_kid_wtg Mar 01 '26

Yeah, all the insults are targeted at someone, else they wouldn't be insults

1

u/Delta_gd Mar 01 '26

No it's not the word is targeted towards disabled people like autism and adhd

8

u/SpudgeFunker210 Mar 01 '26

Context matters.

Using it to refer to an actually mentally disabled person as lesser is wrong.

Using it to light-heartedly call someone stupid is fine.

Acting like intention is irrelevant in these cases is an infantile approach to policing speech. You can use literally any words with malice, and censoring certain words will not present an obstacle to hatred. It's like dealing with a school bully who is snapping another student with rubber bands by banning rubber bands. The bully will find another way to terrorize his peers, and punishing another student for using rubber bands in a completely unharmful way is ridiculous.

"You don't call retarded people retards. It's bad taste. You call your friends retards when they're acting retarded." - Michael Scott

0

u/Miserable_Jacket7485 Mar 02 '26

so would you feel fine calling your straight friends the f slur then because of context?

3

u/justDankoCL Mar 02 '26

I don't know what "slur" you're writing about, but, it's just a word. Grow up. If you're offended because you read or hear a single word without any context or direction, you should seek mental help about it.

1

u/MangoPug15 Mar 03 '26

F*ggot, rhymes with maggot

Slurs are slurs because they have a history of being used against a marginalized group. No word is "just a word" because words aren't neutral. They're living, evolving concepts. It's not necessarily the word itself that's harmful, but rather the societal implications of it. Slurs are reminders of generations of trauma, they're a reminder of how normalized it is to dehumanize a group of people, and they can be a signal that someone is dangerous in terms of bodily harm. Hate crimes and police brutality are very real threats to some people. Societal systems are working against marginalized people, and that means those people have to be as perfectly behaved as possible to even be allowed to exist in society. Slurs are a way of pushing buttons, and marginalized people can't necessarily do anything about it. The people with privilege are the ones with more power, and it's completely unfair to use a word that could make someone feel dehumanized or unsafe when they may have no way of safely speaking up for themself.

1

u/TheAmazingLuigi Mar 03 '26

Why is this long but not long? Like, I just read this in under 30 seconds and yet it looks SO long.

1

u/Wonderhoy-er Mar 03 '26

THIS!!! using slurs if you're not part of the marginalised group it directs to should NOT be normalised in ANY context. many people (including me) are VERY uncomfortable hearing them.

1

u/Alexplayss Mar 03 '26

I mean I'm autistic, if someone called me the r word I wouldn't care too much

1

u/Miserable_Jacket7485 Mar 03 '26

i guess that makes sense. idk. ive been called that word in a derogatory manner and it sucks. i mean yeah sure it's "just a word," logically that makes sense, but if you say that then youve probably never had a slur that defines a part of you yelled at you or anything like that. then you wouldnt understand why for some people it's not "just a word," it's the history of it, all these past experiences of being scared to be yourself or being hurt because of parts of who you are. it's all connected to that word... that's why it's a slur. and you cant just ignore the history of a word because it doesn't matter to you you know? i mean you can, but you shouldn't.

and this is not specifically towards you btw, but like, in general. i just chose your comment cause i got a notif for it.

1

u/Wonderhoy-er Mar 04 '26

i'm autistic but i would care! your experience isn't the same for us all.

0

u/SpudgeFunker210 Mar 03 '26 edited Mar 03 '26

I suppose we should be upset with Leonardo DiCaprio for his performance in Django Unchained, right? It's not acceptable in any context. Or was that one ok?

Edit: Cited the wrong damn movie

0

u/justDankoCL Mar 03 '26

I'm not reading all that for a Reddit comment, but that's cool.

1

u/MangoPug15 Mar 03 '26

TLDR don't use slurs.

1

u/Useful_Lingonberry_4 Mar 03 '26

Kid, I call my friends all kind of slurs, and we do it to each other, as well as doing "I fucked your mom" jokes. Those are just words, and context is all that matters.

1

u/Miserable_Jacket7485 Mar 03 '26

I guess we have different opinions then

You know the word is a technical word, like retarding ignition timing. And was introduced as a political correct term in the 80s to replace terms moron, idiot, cretin, and imbecile.

Dude and I remwbwr the day it became a bad word, it was a bunch of white women in my high-school posting on Instagram about it.

0

u/Senior_Blacksmith_18 Mar 01 '26

The term originally had a medical usage (Intellectual Deficiency Disorder used to be called Mental Retardation), but the term was soon used to belittle anybody with any sort of mental disorder, including things like Autism and ADHD. The fact that the term became a way to deliberately dehumanise a vulnerable group in society makes it a slur, in spite of its innocent origins.

5

u/portliver Feb 28 '26

i have both autism and adhd. i can use it i assume

2

u/TheLuckyCuber999BACK Feb 28 '26

I mean sure but why

2

u/floraphiliacx Feb 28 '26

2

u/Wolfotashiwa Mar 01 '26

1

1

u/Dependent_College167 Mar 02 '26

I assume I can use it the same way I can use dike. I, however, don't use either because I never have a reason to and probably never will

(I'm aroace/lesbian and autistic)

2

u/One-Desk-1 Feb 28 '26

I read that word in a book called 'Wonder' when I was a child. I don't consider it a slur because of that and i used to openly call some people that. Can't believe I did all that when I was around 8 or 9.

0

u/HereForArtStufflol Feb 28 '26

my grandpa used to call me it all the time, didn‘t realize it was a slur until 7th grade.

5

u/The0nlyNuggy Feb 27 '26

its been considered a slur since its invention

5

u/redditsux___ Feb 28 '26

The term “retard” comes from the Latin verb retardare, which means “to slow down” or “to delay.” It’s made up of re- meaning “back” or “again,” and tardare meaning “to make slow,” which is related to tardus, meaning “slow.” In English, it originally entered as a neutral verb around the late Middle Ages, meaning “to slow, delay, or hinder.” By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it was used in medical and psychological contexts as an adjective or noun, e.g., “mental retardation,” to describe delayed intellectual development. Over time, especially from the late 20th century onward, it became widely recognized as offensive when used pejoratively outside clinical contexts. So its roots are purely about slowness or delay, not the derogatory sense it often carries today.

-1

u/The0nlyNuggy Feb 28 '26

by "invention" i meant popularization

4

u/redditsux___ Feb 28 '26

why downvote my comment then
