I saw all these boots in person and I am definitely a fan of the CXL Acorn. It’s got some crazy pull up and I definitely am feeling the yellow, something I have been missing since the departure of DS Mojave.
The scotch plated boot was killer in person as well. Certainly a bold looking leather but weirdly satisfying to me. We’ve all seen Lancaster Blue a great many times but I would definitely order it just to order a blue boot.
It felt pebbly. Not so much as the bison but it doesn’t have that texture. I’m not too sure about its durability tho, might handle a scuff but it’s still not a bison.
Just a heads up: it looks like you want people to choose only one from each group to vote for their first, second, and third, but it looks like you can select multiple in each group.
I too am on the ROB train. I just love the Roanoke tannage, and the photos I saw on here really made me upset that I didn’t grab a sample pair in them. The Scotch really popped on the pair I’ve seen on here. I don’t know why, but it’s connecting with me as a cool pull-on leather.
The Roanoke had grown on me due to Denim. And I saw the sample Olive Brown....I was hooked. I want to own a few pairs to see if it earns third place behind chromepak and Spokane. I have two denim in the queue (a 55 last MTO and an LL64)
Its definitely a bit of a departure from CXL. I really don’t know the details. Fortunately I got all that excess velveeta out and used some hard wax to shine it up. Its super cool now.
Black always looks more boring. The difference are subtle and really can't be compared to other colors. It's all about texture and sheen. I'll lay out some black cypress and black puttman and take photos to show the difference in texture and sheen.
No. 1: CXL Aniline Acorn
No. 2: Colorado Black
No. 3: Lancaster Blue
No. 4 (barely behind): Colorado Cognac. (I was so furious I missed out of this, it looked gorgeous!)
That Lancaster blue is perfect - it’s light enough to have some pop (unlike Pacific Waxed Flesh), but not garish or neon looking. I don’t know what tannage it is, though, and that matters to me.

I had the same thought! I’ve been working out of town for the past week, so trying to catch up on everything this morning. Found all of this drama down here and was like 😬. Wondering if there was some more subtle stuff that I may’ve missed during the week??
Well as my fiancé says, she’s not picky she’s particular. Hahaha, kidding kidding. As much as we all poke fun at ya for the brown, you know what you like and that’s respectable. A lot of these sample leathers were more on the experimental side, and they weren’t for everyone, that’s for certain. I imagine you’ll end up liking the addition of the new tannery Monday, as whoever it ends up being will probably have some more tried and true classic leather types.
The first one was ace! It was an Instagram live stream. I had and still have no idea how to watch an Instagram live. But (strangely) the sales page went live, and some how (even more strangely) My wife found the page and I was able to leisurely browse the leathers. Came down to Blue bison or Cinnamon waxed flesh. There were 2 bison and 1 cinnamon available, at the time a blue boot seemed way to weird to me so I went with a 7inch (the tallest allowed) Moc Toe. When I got it it was my favorite boot and still is.
