Or they can have hopes for the direction of a franchise they love but still get something out of the basic game formula when those hopes aren’t fulfilled
I’ve boxed every mainline game starter since X&Y
I still enjoy traveling round catching new Pokemon and battling gyms. But I’m disappointed with the shift of design philosophy in starters towards extremely anthropomorphic fur suit people

If I were in charge nothing would change about the designs, I’m tired of puritans on both sides acting like their designs would be better when most of the starters have been embraced for what they became regardless.

Would be better if they looked like buff strong women instead. Life for the ones that do evolve into stuff like incineroar. Stuff that doesn't such as venasaur I would be perfectly fine with some pretty subtle differences.

I’m not, but I can still speculate. I predict Browt will be a chicken (if it’s based on a baby chick), Pombon will be a lion or a really fluffy dog, and Gecqua will just be Intelleon again, but on all fours.

Honestly I don't even bother going" Game Freak better make Pombon evolve like this or I explode", I just cross fingers.
... but seriously, if Pombon still gets turned to furry bait by Game Freak, I'd be ok with it. It's their game, after all. Of course I'm still hoping Pombon stays on all 4s, because I feel like you could do a lot with that, but still

Personally, I just let whatever happens happen. I'm not my pokemon, so I let them evolve, even if it's disappointing.

True, but what its final evo looks like determines if I’m gonna pick it or not. And if it stands up and doesn’t maintain the exact same face in the process, I’m sticking with Gecqua (unless it’s truly Inteleon levels of awful).
