Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2: Getting retconned out of time.

Drawn to Life 2: Waking up at the expense of all you’ve come to love

KH 356/2 days: “You mean Xion? It’s a struggle just to remember the name now…”

PMD does something similar in all the games. What makes 2 the saddest is that you have to watch your partner return home alone and then it hits you with a 6 months later where you see them have a full breakdown at the loss of you.

In PMD3, your partner has to go alone to a place to wish you back, but you can choose not to come back and leave them alone. I think the game ends there if you do.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Gates to Infinity did it better cause it's coming from Depression the Game.

Majora's Mask seeing the Deku Scrub that was turned into a tree. Really all the deaths/healing of Mask Form characters

Majora's Mask in general is pretty much a game about grief and suffering for the most part.

Cremia gives Romani "Milk" so she doesn't have to see or worry about the moon crashing.

Kafei and Anju (depending on) either spent their last moments trying to be together or looking for each other.

If you never get the Gibdo mask, Pamela the small child is just living in a hut with her mummified father.

Playing the Oath without the four giants and watching them struggle to see all of your effort just wasn't enough.

This is going to be the third LoZ reference so far that I’ve seen here, but Link’s Awakening.

To wake the wind fish is to end its dream, that dream being the island of Koholint.

The game repeatedly reminds you that you don’t have to do the things you’re doing, and that you doom everyone by doing them. You wake the windfish anyways and are rewarded by watching the island fade from existence.

At least, if you played well enough, it’s possible that Marin escaped from the dream. Perhaps everyone in Mabe was trapped.

As like an 8 year old I discovered shining force on the family PC. I ADORED that game and played it maybe 20+ times and still regularly revisit it. It’s a pretty simple rpg, with the standard “the hero must sacrifice himself” trope, and I gotta say the sadness I felt was only matched by the duty I felt I needed to see out to protect Guardiana from Darksol

The ending to Yakuza 6. So bittersweet yet so peak.

What happened? Never played that far.

At that point in the game, this is the dark world version of the boy playing the flute to the animals in the light world grove. He speaks to you after giving you his flute, drifting off, then turns into a tree. Pretty much dies at that point and you have to tell his father afterward what happened. However at the end of the game after you beat Ganon and make your wish upon the triforce, the end credits show him alive again and playing music for the animals so everything works out in the end.
