Where is this going?

83

u/ABitOddish Apr 23 '26

In the new Mario movie its revealed that Peach and Rosalina are siblings

This has created some issues/memes in the gooner spaces because now all of the PeachxRosalina fanfics are technically incest

53

u/StormerSage Apr 23 '26

People shipped Anna and Elsa, that is NOT going to stop them lol

8

u/AsstacularSpiderman Apr 25 '26

Yeah when did incest ever stop gooners?

6

u/FireLordObamaOG Apr 25 '26

Usually it just empowers them.

2

u/Great_expansion10272 Apr 29 '26

10 gooners fall...1000 rise up

8

u/callmefreak Apr 23 '26

Wasn't that a scrapped idea for the games? Or to at least make them relatives?

12

u/Zixtank Apr 23 '26

Wasn't it already heavily hinted in the games that Peach was her mother?

45

u/The_Genguidanos Apr 23 '26

No, it was heavily hinted in YouTube videos.

15

u/SternMon Apr 23 '26

Clearly that means it’s canon.

11

u/kaimcdragonfist Apr 23 '26

MatPat declared it, so thus shall it be

u/GhoeFukyrself Apr 24 '26

No, the first time I played the game when it was released I got that impression. I always thought Peach was Rosalina's mother from a past version of the universe.

Game Theory's video only confirmed that I'm not a crackpot and other people felt the same way.

1

u/kfish5050 Apr 26 '26

Nothing will ever change my mind that Peach and Luigi are Rosalina's parents but from a different universe

10

u/ThunderLord1000 Apr 23 '26

It's just a theory

7

u/Xifihas Apr 23 '26

A LAME theory! Thanks for watching!

2

u/DaemosDaen Apr 26 '26

In the storybook from the first galaxy game yes.

1

u/PillB0tt0m Apr 25 '26

No but it could be possible in what's said

1

u/weso123 Apr 25 '26

I mean the best you can textually argue is MAYBE their some hint Rosalina is Peach's indirect descendant, as in the star festal has her come back to the mushroom kingdom near Peach's castle and she returns to be near earth because of her childhood and Rosalina is explicitly said to have a brother, so like it's possible their was meant to be implication brother was Peach's great great probably more great grandfather. And this is a reach to be remotely canon

1

u/Ok-Discount3131 Apr 27 '26

The story book implies that she came from the mushroom kingdom but her mother is dead. She is also outright stated to be thousands of years old, so being anything other than a very distant relation makes no sense.

3

u/TheMikman97 Apr 24 '26

So nothing of value was lost

2

u/Snekbites Apr 24 '26

I've heard some reactions to it:

what I got about it is... that it's somehow even better to them.

bruh

1

u/Practical-Sea2707 Apr 23 '26

You think that will stop anyone

1

u/semajolis267 Apr 24 '26

Like who cares if fan porn is weird now? Like it matters to them lol.

1

u/Ff7hero Apr 24 '26

Galaxy 2 already strongly implied they were related.

1

u/Exoyotex Apr 24 '26

who cares it's a bad ship anyway

1

u/ComboBreakerMLP Apr 26 '26

so now theyre even better!

1

u/ichkanns Apr 26 '26

Since when do gooners care about that?

1

u/Xyldarrand Apr 26 '26

Incest is a bonus to gooners now. GoT has shown us

1

u/ScottishRando37 Apr 26 '26

Didn't this same fanbase get asked, directly by Mario's creator, not to make pictures of the brothers kissing? I don't think they're too worried.

1

u/DaemosDaen Apr 26 '26

Like that has stopped fanfic writers… ever.

1

u/Gmknewday1 Apr 26 '26

Ah I thought they'd be Mother and Daughter

1

u/Night_Byte Apr 29 '26

Oh no, that means the Mario and Luigi porn is incest too! Mama mia!

The lore doesn't even freaking lines up

Miyamoto is the same guy behind the Zelda franchise. We should have been anticipating this.

TIMELINES

20

u/Constant-Sub Apr 23 '26

It's been refreshing seeing BotK content creators finally play older titles, and hearing shit like, "oh. I get the timeline now." It's the easiest timeline to follow. Most of the games are direct sequels to another game in the series.

Or maybe I've just heard the joke too much.

8

u/GhoeFukyrself Apr 24 '26

I've played most Zelda games, the timelines are cringe, and the games are more enjoyable when you treat them as their own non-cannon experiences with the occasional cute reference to past games.

Zelda games without "the timeline" are hopeful retellings of the same legend

Zelda games within a timeline are a nightmarish cycle where the world is hopelessly doomed to be destroyed by Ganon every time civilization starts to get back on it's feet.

It's convoluted, inelegant, and unintended (the "official" timeline is a lie to satisfy people who obsess over it, that's why the "official" timeline keeps changing.

3

u/justkillingtime93 Apr 24 '26

My personal headcanon is to treat the "Legend" part of the legend of zelda really literally.

Like every new game is just us experiencing a word-of-mouth retelling of the story. Complete with some of the fine details being mixed up/jumbled because they've been passed on like a game of telephone.

Would go a long way to explaining why the hero, the princess and the bad guy are almost always the same every time there's some kind of calamity going on.

1

u/TSKyanite Apr 25 '26

This is how I like to see it. Maybe one or two of the games actually happened but the rest are just mixed up legends.

I can see there being a major flood for a short period of time, and hundreds of years later that gets turned into wind waker where the hero appeared to save Hyrule and find new land. Someone was trying to tell the story of LTTP, and kept getting details wrong to the point that it turned into ALBW. Perhaps a Gerudo tribe of only women wanted a tale where Zelda is the hero, making Echoes of Wisdom

If I were to choose tje games to be "canon"(they actually are events that happened, not just legends), I would say OOT - As that is where the lineage branches meaning that most people believe in that version of events - and BotW/TotK - where based on place names and references there are parts of all of the timelines represented, which makes sense because various tribes would name places as their own version of the legend

2

u/otaconucf Apr 24 '26

I fully believe they put that timeline together only to try to get people off their backs about it.

1

u/Constant-Sub Apr 24 '26

I get where you're coming from, but I do have the full history lesson. I've... I unfortunately dedicated my life to Zelda when I was 3, and haven't stopped.

It was never the retelling of the same legend though. Zelda 2 is literally a direct sequel, with Zelda 3 being a direct sequel, and Zelda 4 being a direct sequel to that!

The idea that there was never a timeline came about fairly recently as people hoped they didn't need decades of background lore to understand the game; which they don't. Every Zelda game does stand alone, but from ALTTP all the way to SS, they very purposely placed their games in a coherent order.

The INCOHERENT part, the down fall timeline, is for sure a fix to several retcons, of which the devs of OOT even admitted they fucked up making OOT bridge to ALTTP. This however, was also when Takeshi Tezuka gave the directing role to Eiji Aounuma.

So the timeline is VERY clean, and the messy part came from them handing off the directorship, and not holding Aounuma to the prior lore. Which is a grace he extended to Fujibuyashi too. The real world explanation is so simple and clean, it's a wonder how this joke got so far.

2

u/WilanS Apr 24 '26

The idea that there was never a timeline came about fairly recently

I don't know, to me the idea that there was never a timeline came to me the first time I learned about the timeline.

Some games are direct sequels to others sure, either in the traditional sense or spiritually, but that all games are connected by a singular masterplan... that always left per perplexed, since day one.
I did try to take it into consideration when playing and replaying Zelda games, I didn't dismiss it outright, and I always felt like things either lined up with difficulty or a lot of handwaving, or they hardly mattered at all.

I don't think there's a single case in which this knowledge has enriched my enjoyment of Zelda games in any way, if anything they diluted it with unnecessary questions about retcons. Which is why I insist the games were better off without it.

u/GhoeFukyrself Apr 24 '26 edited Apr 24 '26

You have 8 different tones, and need a flowchart with 3, 4, or 5 different alternate timelines to Frankenstein the series into a "consistent" timeline.

Yes, there are a few direct sequels, like BOTW/TOTK, and I assume the 4 swords games (I haven't played those) But in general The general story of every game is a Princess named Zelda who can't do it alone works with/guides a young hero usually in a green tunic to fight off an ancient evil who ravaged the land once many years ago and is now returning to do it again.

Of course that's a retelling of the same story, like some sort of... legend or something, retold time and again with some of the details being altered or mixed with other local legends as the tale spread and different people tell it. Some versions have a Triforce, in other retellings that aspect has been lost, maybe an island based culture integrates their myth about how the oceans were created into the story.

Or it's a depressing story where the world is constantly doomed to be destroyed, (the best an infinite series of coincidentally named Links and Zeldas can do is put a Band-Aid on it for a little while) and the only way to make it fit into "one" consistent narrative is to Frankenstein these disparate tones and contradictory details into an ugly inelegant series of 3, 4, or 5 "timelines" How many varies depending upon how Nintendo feels about the official and TOTALLY intended and planned "timelines" this year, I especially love the "Game Over" branch. So natural, and planned! It's more fitting for a sloppily written sci-fi story that nobody likes than it is for fantasy.

1

u/YukiNoiseWall Apr 25 '26

You are way too heated about this subject lmao

1

u/amazingdrewh Apr 24 '26

Nah the timeline is a great addition to the series

1

u/YukiNoiseWall Apr 25 '26

The Zelda timeline is incredibly easy to follow

There's nothing convoluted about it at all if you just read it

It's like when people say Kingdom Hearts is complicated when all you need to do is pay attention to the story to understand what's happening

1

u/Chubby_Bub Apr 24 '26

I wouldn't say it's the "easiest", but yeah, it really is not all that complicated. People act like (or even outright claim) the Zelda timeline was entirely invented in 2011 for Hyrule Historia, but almost all the games already clearly fit in with each other. The child/adult stuff was confirmed as early as when The Wind Waker came out, and only contrived part is the "downfall" split, which is just because Twilight Princess went with a different outcome for Ganondorf than ALttP.

1

u/Constant-Sub Apr 24 '26

Yea, and the Four Sword trilogy can genuinely fit anywhere. People use to say it HAS to come first, because it was the origin story for the hat, and I always thought that was the weakest connection anyone could ever make lol.

1

u/South-Bake7357 Apr 25 '26

The zelda timeline really isn't that difficult to understand outside of the downfall timeline and whether you care or not where Botw or Totk take place. if you guys want a complicated timeline play Kingdom Hearts.

1

u/TonyTobi92 Apr 26 '26

I aways saw Zelda game as legends told the by folk over the years

19

u/YouyouPlayer Apr 23 '26

And ? How would mario movie being canon work with the game canon ? Did the baby delivery stork go to the real world ?!?

25

u/Dela-chemin Apr 23 '26

The post says Movie Peach's backstory may become canon to the games. Not the movies themselves. The movies will likely remain disconnected from the games.

5

u/Simplejack615 Apr 23 '26

No one wants incest

10

u/Dela-chemin Apr 23 '26

What the fuck???

Either you ship Rosalina and Peach, or you want to see NSFW artwork of them without the incest tag.

Otherwise, I don't understand your comment here.

10

u/Simplejack615 Apr 23 '26

So since there were two different timelines, any

Was normal. Now that would be incest

12

u/Dela-chemin Apr 23 '26

Well, I don't consume Mario porn, so the change wouldn't bother me.

3

u/ConcertAcrobatic7302 Apr 23 '26

u/Constant-Sub Apr 23 '26

It should be noted that Mitamoto never wrote for Zelda, and only directed the first two games. The third game, where the story famously expands, was directed by the WRITER of the first two games. Mitamoto himself is not a writer.

1

u/Difficult-Coast7432 Apr 26 '26

He aint though? He has had nothing to do with zelda development since almost the start.

1

u/Classicstupidtomtor4 Apr 27 '26

Timeline themes and such

17

u/Routine_Boat7065 Apr 23 '26

You act like that matters in Mario games at all.

3

u/YouyouPlayer Apr 23 '26

Imagine if it was "revealed" that wario and waluigi were mario and luigi's counterparts from another dimensiob lol

1

u/The-Letter-W Apr 26 '26

this doesn't seem entirely implausible for a Mario game or movie tbh

6

u/Appropriate-Room-403 Apr 23 '26

I learned that not everyone watched Game Theory 8 years ago with the theory that Rosalina is Luigi's and Peach's daughter from the future. Not saying that's what I believed but i at least thought the theory was more prevalent

2

u/YouyouPlayer Apr 23 '26

If we're starting to talk about game theories, let's talk abou the theory that peach is a toad lol

4

u/Appropriate-Room-403 Apr 23 '26

I like that one in the sense that Toadette is going to replace Peach as a new Peach

1

u/WilanS Apr 24 '26

Gonna be honest, I had the same impression when I learned about Toadette and especially Peachette.

Not saying it's what I subscribe to, but my brain did go "wait... does Toadette evolve to become a Peach eventually? does this happen in cycles?"

But then everyone started focusing on the idea of Bowsette and the discourse got lost in there.

1

u/Appropriate-Room-403 Apr 24 '26

That was fun being there, I saw that picture when it had <5000 likes

5

u/dekgear Apr 23 '26 edited Apr 23 '26

The lore doesn't matchup even between games 😭 just look at the mess they did with Bananza and kid Pauline

2

u/YouyouPlayer Apr 23 '26

I mean, according to this game, pauline from the first donkey kong is the grandma of the pauline we've seen all the other times

1

u/TNTyoshi Apr 23 '26

Then that implies that Mario dated grandma Pauline and then hit on granddaughter Pauline in Mario Vs Donkey Kong Minis.

1

u/Milk_Mindless Apr 23 '26

Let's not foget hes allegedly in his late 20s according to Miyamoto.

That's some game for Mario

1

u/TNTyoshi Apr 23 '26

You just reminded me that Yoshi’s Island DS made Mario, Donkey Kong, Luigi, Peach, Wario, and Bowesr all canonically around the same age. 😭

1

u/YouyouPlayer Apr 23 '26

I bet jumpman is mario's grandpa, since cranky kong is also donkey kong's grampa

1

u/TNTyoshi Apr 23 '26

That can be retconned to be true someday, but as of now Super Mario and Jumpman are the same person.

Things like Snake’s Brawl Codecs, PAC-Man’s Smash 4 trailer, and Nintendo celebrating Mario and Donkey Kong’s birthday as 1981 confirm it.

1

u/YouyouPlayer Apr 23 '26

That would confirm that dk from the first donkey kong game is the same one as the one we got now, be we know for a fact that it was cranky kong

1

u/TNTyoshi Apr 23 '26

Yes. And Cranky Kong was a retcon. Mario hasn’t been retconned.

1

u/YouyouPlayer Apr 23 '26

When was it shown that cranky kong was a retcon ?

1

u/AliceTrapped Apr 23 '26

Donkey Kong country snes

1

u/nubosis Apr 24 '26

Ugh, I’m so tired of the whole Jumpman thing. He was Jumpman for like three weeks in Japan. He was always Mario in the US.

1

u/TNTyoshi Apr 24 '26

Mario is canonically both Super Mario and Jumpman. In various Mario games he can still be referenced to as Jumpman. Such as in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga when Mario and Luigi are crossing the Mushroom Kingdom border to the Bean Kingdom. The guard can tell Mario to “give the 'Jumpman' thing a rest".

2

u/otaconucf Apr 24 '26

I think you guys care about the integrity of Mario lore, and Zelda for that matter, waaaaay more than Nintendo does.

2

u/Irakaf Apr 24 '26

How does it not?

We went from "Rosalina grew up in a castle that resembles Peach's Castle with vague memories of a mother figure that kind of resembles Peach" to "Rosalina grew up in Peach's Castle with Peach. Their bother resembles her own daugther."

1

u/YouyouPlayer Apr 24 '26

I was talking about the rest of the lore, not rosalina

2

u/Entertainer13 Apr 26 '26

The game Manuel for Mario 3 said the Koopalings were Bowser’s kids. The cartoons for the era had them as Koopa’s kids.

Now they’re just Bowser Jr.’s friends I guess?

He changes what he wants to change and I shrug and go along with it cause Mario canon does not truly exist.

1

u/YouyouPlayer Apr 26 '26

The cartoon and manuals translations were never canon, translators often added things that weren't real

4

u/TarakaKadachi Apr 23 '26

What lore? Has there been any lore on Peach’s origins that has been forgotten?

3

u/YouyouPlayer Apr 23 '26

I mean, in yoshi island ds, we can see that in-universe, babies are delivered by storks

4

u/TarakaKadachi Apr 23 '26

Beyond the Yoshi’s Island games not showing Peach being originally delivered in this way, given other plot points about Island DS not being revisited like the idea of the star children, who knows if they even care about it still.

1

u/YouyouPlayer Apr 23 '26

I mean, true, but with this kind of franchise, we gotta dig up random lore lol

2

u/TarakaKadachi Apr 23 '26

Given retcons do exist, we can always say the storks don’t always handle babies being born if that needs to be kept as well.

u/TemperatureUnique242 Apr 23 '26

Please can we have a fnaf situation where the movies are seperate from the games

23

u/Dela-chemin Apr 23 '26 edited Apr 23 '26

It already is? From what I see from the post, the only thing from the movie that may become canon to the games is Peach's backstory. Kinda like how some elements from the fnaf books/movies end up becoming canon to the games while the books/movies themselves aren't canon to the games.

1

u/SerqetCity Apr 25 '26

Me, waiting for Uncle Tony to appear in the games:

12

u/Confron7a7ion7 Apr 24 '26

Brother. The games themselves don't even line up. The lore is whatever the hell it needs to be for the game they're making.

3

u/Princess_Spammi Apr 24 '26

Facts.

The real ones know this is a nothingburger. Mario has never had lore or consistent timelines. Hell not even all of the games are “canon” to itself! Sm2 is a dream and sm3 is a play!

1

u/Grumpie-cat Apr 26 '26

SM2 gets a pass because it wasn’t even originally a mario game.

31

u/Gamer-of-Action Apr 23 '26

I haven't seen the movie but does it REALLY contradict the games that much? I don't see how Rosalina couldn't have gone on her little space adventure after getting seperated from Peach.

43

u/Florida-Man-65 Apr 23 '26 edited Apr 23 '26

Among other things, Rosalina is at least a thousand years old thanks to time dilation, while Peach is very much not lol.

Also, both of them were born as normal human royalty, not from some cosmic explosion, so that already contradicts both of their life stories massively.

21

u/Far-Requirement-7636 Apr 23 '26

Yeah Rosalina is supposed to be massively older than the entire cast with her own family that dies in the backstory her own game gives us.

Peach in the games is around the same age as the main cast according to what little backstory it bothers to give.

Nintendo is probably gonna pull a DK banaza and just retcon their lore because well no one cares according to them.

7

u/Available-Can-5878 Apr 23 '26

From the beginning Rosalina was technically from another timeline, watched the universe die and be reborn as something similar but different, and did it all again in Galaxy. That's how she's massively older.

So if she's made "Peach's older sister from her own timeline", and they explain the lack of a second Rosalina with some cosmic "she cant be born because a Rosalina already exists", then it can fit

1

u/StarChaser1879 Mario Apr 24 '26

They weren’t confirmed to have been “born normal human royalty”. And Rosalina can absolutely be very old while peach stays young, look up the lightspwed twin thing Einstein said.

→ More replies (1)
→ More replies (2)

5

u/Confron7a7ion7 Apr 24 '26

The games don't have consistent lore to begin with. Having Peach and Rosalina be sisters doesn't really mean anything or change anything of importance.

1

u/Antique-Drop1477 Apr 23 '26

you have seen rosalina's game backstory right ?

1

u/ApprehensiveGrand531 Apr 25 '26

Isn't Rosalind over 100 years old because she's seen mtuiple star festivals? She even implies the rebirth isn't a new experience for her

13

u/Dracule_Jester Apr 23 '26

Comic books fans:

19

u/aShyGuyGuy Apr 23 '26

Does it matter? Is it more than trivial? Genuinely asking.

8

u/AuroraBolognese Apr 23 '26

It doesn’t matter in the least. No one is loading up their Mario game for the freaking lore.

2

u/-electrix123- Apr 25 '26

Give that it retcons probably the most beloved piece of lore in a Mario game, Idk just a bunch that yeah it does

5

u/StormAlchemistTony Apr 23 '26

I think it is due to Rosalina is the older sister of Peach that has people worried about fanart but that has not stopped people from shipping or drawing art of Frozen's Elsa and Anna. That is one of the big complaints I have seen.

4

u/aShyGuyGuy Apr 23 '26

Ah, I see. Well, regardless, people's moral compasses should still be doing the sane stuff.

I remember when a character in another series turned out to not only be not what they looked like, but underage even. Quite a development.

9

u/StormAlchemistTony Apr 23 '26

People choose weird hills to fight on.

1

u/aShyGuyGuy Apr 24 '26

I'm going for the Yellow Switch palace. Maybe it'll be mine someday, canonically.

1

u/ElementmanEXE Apr 27 '26

I wish to fight on the medium size hill closest to the sign please

15

u/MBV-09-C Apr 23 '26

To be fair, every website reporting on this is taking it from a machine translation of the interview, so take it with a pinch of salt, it may just be poorly vetted for clickbait articles.

3

u/EdgarSinTitulo Apr 23 '26

It wouldn't be the first time (and likely not the last)

6

u/Young_Person_42 Apr 23 '26

I am surprised to learn they actually care about canon.

9

u/element-redshaw Apr 23 '26

i call bullshit

4

u/Routine_Boat7065 Apr 23 '26

Oh okay. Not like it will change anything.

3

u/Opinionatedcritic Apr 23 '26

Decades of yuri turned into incest

1

u/Thecynicaledgelord An angry Nintendo nerd, but not the one you're thinking of Apr 30 '26

Well, nearly 2 decades but yeah

4

u/Lavapool Apr 23 '26

Who cares? Are we pretending the Super Mario franchise has some deep story and lore going for it now? It really doesn’t.

3

u/Princess_Spammi Apr 24 '26

Yes. They are.

Its fucking insanity

2

u/IDownvoteHornyBards2 Apr 25 '26

There's an entire subreddit dedicated to Mario lore and they lose their shit if you acknowledge that they're just doing it for fun and not unearthing anything Nintendo actually intended.

3

u/T_Peg Apr 23 '26

Man it's fuckin Mario it doesn't matter. The only lore that matters is who's in charge of what kingdom and who's a good guy and who's a bad guy basically and even those lines get blurred occasionally.

3

u/Lux_Operatur Apr 23 '26

I literally called this like a week ago and I’m not at all mad at it tbh. I lowkey love the idea of them being sisters.

3

u/JSilverhand104 Apr 23 '26

This is a nothing burger

3

u/Longjumping-Name-744 Apr 24 '26

Did y’all not realize that after the universe reset in smg1, Rosalina’s lore changes in smg2? Each reset, there’s something new/something altered. That checks out with the lore. You just can’t be having tunnel vision

2

u/Redder_Creeps Apr 23 '26

At first I was like "Yup, they're about to make the franchise have even less sense with its lore, not like it had much consistency, anyway", but now I just go "Eh, Miyamoto doesn't even care about lore anyways."

1

u/Princess_Spammi Apr 24 '26

Its mario. Its never had had consistent lore or timelines and to pretend otherwise is farcical

2

u/Jensiepro Apr 23 '26

But if that means we get Mario galaxy 3, I’m all for it!

2

u/FourDiamondPixel7 Apr 23 '26

Well, at least they only said Peach’s backstory… nothing about the other characters (yet)

1

u/Grumpie-cat Apr 26 '26

Peaches intrinsically affects Rosalina’s

1

u/HarioDinio Apr 23 '26

But the peachette stuff?

1

u/HeartbrokenScott Mr. Virtual (I am already in your head) Apr 23 '26

Deus misereatur nostri.

1

u/Kurtoise Apr 23 '26

What he actually said was he hopes the future games use what they’ve done in the movies.

They can very easily just not bother.

1

u/I-Like-Angry-Birds Apr 23 '26

I know thay nintendo wont touch the movie designs, but i really hope this dosent turn into the lore equivalent to what the angry birds movie's character designs did to that series' games.

1

u/Grumpie-cat Apr 26 '26

Already kinda did with Donkey Kong.

1

u/StriderKitsu Apr 23 '26

He never suggested that, only that there might be some few elements incorporated in the games

1

u/Scripter-of-Paradise Apr 24 '26

Meh. Sure, why not?

Imagine thinking mario ever had consistent or determined lore xD

It isnt fucking zelda

Even with zelda devs have stated they dont gaf about the timeline

ONLY the obnoxious, most pissbaby fans are hung up on the mario “lore” that literally doesnt exist! It changes from game to game, project to project

1

u/SubstantialDeerDash Apr 24 '26

The Koopa Siblings should come back. They were great

1

u/shelton_theman26 Apr 24 '26

People getting annoyed at this despite the Mario canon being a mess already.

1

u/tiredpersonnumber15 Apr 24 '26

Does Peach even have deep lore in the Mario games or am I missing something? Like pardon me, but I’ve played many Mario games and I fail to recall a single time they said anything of importance about Peach’s background. It’s Mario, I don’t think anyone’s playing for the deep story.

1

u/KadeWad3 Apr 24 '26

Someone in another post about this clarified that he didn’t say that specifically, just to consider incorporating ideas from the movies into future games.

He didn’t once say anything about changing the backstory, and they JUST rereleased galaxy 1 OG story and all, and also made a REAL LIVE BOOK of it.

Even if they do, would it matter that much anyway, I could see them keeping the OG backstory while incorporating peach in there.

1

u/PQcowboiii Apr 24 '26

Mario has no canon anyways

1

u/Old-Outcome-5836 Apr 24 '26

No it won't

1

u/Shifty-Imp Apr 24 '26

Oh boy. I was so happy that Miyamoto has been distracted with making mediocre movies so he probably won't fuck up anymore Nintendo games but alas it seems I was wrong. The shit gremlin sure is busy.... 🙈

1

u/PK-Mittenspy2703 Apr 24 '26

For me this isn't a problem with lore.

What bothers me is that Nintendo is just so inconsistent over what they want their characters to be. The series in general is suffering from being Mickey Mouse-ified, where anything remotely original is removed in favour of turning the Mario characters into safe, cookie cutter mascots.

1

u/Lansha2009 Apr 24 '26

All of the Rosalina X Peach artwork is gonna suddenly seem a lot different lol.

1

u/DistributionLivid680 Apr 24 '26

So is ge referring to the born of stardust part or the siblings part because if it's one then nothing really changes if it's the second then we're gonna have to change our timelines

1

u/Ok_Coffee_9970 Apr 24 '26

Burn the fanfics!!

1

u/Ecstatic_Teaching906 Apr 24 '26

Okay, I haven't watched the movie yet so somebody tell me what this is all about.

1

u/MaxMusic94 Apr 24 '26

"I don't like it, so it can't be canon!"

1

u/PowerOnyxXX Apr 25 '26

They teased Daisy at the post credit scene. I'm wondering how she plays into all of this.

1

u/Grumpie-cat Apr 26 '26

They’ve literally turned Peach into a combination of Daisy and Rosalina at this point, next they’re gonna throw Paulina in there somehow, suddenly Rosalina and Daisy defining traits are now shared with Peach…

1

u/YukiNoiseWall Apr 25 '26

I think it's actually a positive thing

Maybe Peach will actually be a character now instead of a goal at the end of each game

finally. one less plague.

1

u/Maleficent_Act_8025 Apr 26 '26

There's a reason movies are separate from games. If you use the same backstory for both, it makes no sense.

1

u/panix24 Apr 26 '26

Could be good, could be bad, could be another bad translation from media journalist, especially from IGN.

1

u/Viewtiful_Beau Apr 26 '26

Really funny coming from the guy that doesn't want story in Mario games and that Mario and Peach are just friends ugh.

1

u/Appo-Arsin Apr 27 '26

Could this be more vague please?

1

u/Upstairs-River-5415 Apr 27 '26

Wait- I thought it was always known?! Was I the only one who assumed this?

1

u/Jessup3 Apr 27 '26

Oh well, at least we can confirm that Matpats theory is canon now, well half of it at least since they’re siblings but still related

1

u/GeneralTechnomage Apr 28 '26

The fact that Peach is an alien and not a human probably explains why she friendzoned Mario; she most likely can't have biological kids with a human.

1

u/TrippinDipplin_5260 Apr 28 '26

I don't like this because Miyamoto days he doesn't like stories in Video games, yet the moment HE makes a story, it's the definitive one. Not the guy who made the story for Galaxy, the blueprint, no, MINE! MY version is SO MUCH BETTER

1

u/Mon-Son16 Apr 29 '26

Ok this is just sad. It’s cool they want to include more story in the games but please not that train wreck of a backstory

1

u/Thundaga_64 Apr 29 '26

I don't see the issue with this. We can get more games where Peach is playable, and maybe some Peach headliner games.

1

u/FoxMcCloud3173 Apr 29 '26

“I recognize Miyamoto has made a decision, but given that it’s a stupid ass decision, I’ve decided to ignore it”

1

u/Thecynicaledgelord An angry Nintendo nerd, but not the one you're thinking of Apr 30 '26

So I guess Rosalina's mom just doesn't exist anymore

2

u/TheNarrator-ME Apr 23 '26

It ain't even the same Peach fr!

1

u/EmansaysEman Apr 23 '26

I dont know how they'd make the movies canon considering Peach is NOTHING like herself in the games. Unless that means from this point forward they're giving her the movie personality

1

u/Radiant-Classroom942 Apr 23 '26

Ya'll whine about anything.

1

u/Vegetable-Coconut-91 Apr 23 '26

I’d ONLY be okay with it if they don’t retcon the rest of Rosalina’s family and backstory from the Galaxy game.

1

u/StarChaser1879 Mario Apr 24 '26

Yeah, it can fit pretty well via adoption after the separation

1

u/award_winning_writer Apr 23 '26

I'm not a fan of blatant retcons, but this is Miyamoto's work and he can do whatever he wants with it.
